I just got home from the hospital. The surgery went well. I'm running a mild fever if it gets worse I'll have to go back in. The pain is pretty bad.

Gastric sleeve to bypass

I agree I don't think it was stressed enough by my surgical team or I would have skipped the sleeve and had the RNY in the first place. -
Gastric sleeve to bypass
mickally replied to mickally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I would have know about how the sleeve can increase reflux before I had surgery but sadly I did not connect the dots. I'm not exactly sure if I didn't highlight my existing reflux problem with everything else going on trying to get approved. My Doctors didn't think it was an issue. However the pain got to a uncontrollably point where revision was my only option. I a week out from revision and I'm so glad I did it. Don't be afraid of revision most sleeve patients who have reflux can keep it under control without issues. -
Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?
mickally replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my RNY surgery last Tuesday. The reason is that my stomach was producing to much acid. When you have a sleeve there is no where for the acid to go but up. I tried to control it with medication but it did not help. For me the RNY was the answer. -
Trying to decide...
mickally replied to GADeltaDawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the vertical sleeve in October 2013. Now I'm having a revision to gastric bypass because I can not get the reflux under control. Had I known what I know now about reflux and the sleeve not being the best choice I would have just had the bypass and saved myself from a second surgery. -
February 3 revision surgery (sleeve to RNY) feeling a bit anxious!

Sleeve to bypass revision
mickally replied to mickally's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Par1959 you are so right, logging is a key factor in weight loss success for most people. I know that When I am brutally honest with myself not logging my food intake is first on the list of things I haven't been doing also not chewing enough, not waiting between bites and eating to many carbs. This certainly explains my weight gain. I will be having my revision surgery in two weeks to fix the incredible heartburn that I'm having. I'm not looking forward to starting over but I do feel like I have a second chance to relearn everything to keep my weight loss successful. -
Hi everyone. I haven't been on in awhile due to the fact that I have completely derailed. I had the sleeve in October 2013 and lost 65 lbs. I have been suffering with acid reflux. I am on 80mg of medication a day and still cannot keep it under control. My doctor has recommended that I have a revision to bypass. He says that people who have the RNY are less likely to have heartburn then those who have the sleeve. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or anyone who has had this revision. My sleeve is also quite large so I can eat a lot more then I thought I would be able to. I find this frustrating because it's not an issue of stretching rather it was made larger which means I'm hungry all the time and I have put back on 20 lbs over the past few months. I really need support because I feel like I have failed.

Sleeve to bypass revision
mickally replied to mickally's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Midwest cowgirl I live in Oregon and that is where I will have the surgery. I am currently scheduled for February 3. Since it is for the purpose of repairing a hernia and stop the reflux my insurance is covering it. How I know my sleeve was made bigger is seeing it on the screen both right after surgery and seeing it a month ago when they were looking for the hernia. Very miner stretching just bigger then most. Not sure what size bogey was used. I remember saying to myself when I saw the pictures after surgery "wow it's a lot bigger then I thought it would be". I heard stories of surgeons purposely making it big so they could perform a second surgery. I am fairly positive this is not the case with mine however it does make me wonder. -

Hang in there and please get it checked out. If you have In fact been sleeved be good to yourself it takes time to heal. I remember feeling like it was a full time job to keep up with all we are suppose to do to be successful but so worth it. -

Smelly Protein Shakes
mickally replied to Sparklingbeauty53's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am 10 months post op and I still can not drink powder protein drinks. The smell gags me. Instead I have found that pre made protein drinks work. I use muscle milk at 20 grams or premier at 30 grams. The muscle milk is a little sweeter so I don't drink it as often as I do the premier. You can get both at costco. -
Yes I have the same kind of back pain across my mid back. I have not been to the doctor. I kind of figured it was my muscles readjusting to carrying my weight differently. I haven't really lost any of my chest which is throwing me off balanced. I'm not sure but it is very painful.

I am 9 months out and have lost a lot of my hair it is very dry and brittle. I try to camouflage it but there is not much to work with. It just looks stringy and sad but it is a small price to pay. My health has improved so much and my hair will grow back. I too am thinking about a pixie so that my hair can recover but I can not decide.
