  1. Jaimie, are you in Florida? I remember those horrid winters in the ED. Spoiled in the Icu by comparison. I know hospitals are kind of a PIA about having drinks but maybe they would let you keep something with you to sip as you work? In the ED though I'd take as much time as I could.
  2. I I made it through day four of the pre-op diet without a hitch. Really think I've got this, not saying it's a walk I the park, but doable. Working out thou him kinda a slacker, just feel tired to go. Anyone else struggling with their work out routine during pre op? Or if you're totally Rockin it would love to know your routine
  3. Hope you feel better soon. Surgery is no fun and maybe we are all a little crazy for being excited and looking forward to our dates, but it will be worth it in the end.
  4. Hey Bobbi, How'd your surgery go? Hope all is well! CNA s work hard, I can't imagine being able to go back as soon bad you planned. Take care of yourself:)

    Some Fat People Actually Work

Yep, night shift is great for the flexible schedule to get things done. I've not used any vacation throughout the process so will get 4 weeks post op. But the price you pay is chronic exhaustion for lack of sleep. Totally get the chronic fog reference . I was days for a few years before relocating and it is amazing how good it feels. I'm sorry Lucky you have to wait for vacation to build up again but at least you have a plan and will get there.

    Marriage Problems 2 Mo. Out

Different perspective, life is short, are you truly happy in your marriage or have you settled for less than you deserve? I agree work on you marriage, you invested a lot of time and energy into it and have children and a family. Those are not things to throw away lightly. Tell your husband what you need. Clearly something is missing. He'll either step up or not, But if both of you aren't willing to make your relationship into what you both need, owell then isn't moving on better than hanging on to a relationship that isn't fulfilling? You may find what you want right at home or may find its time to move on.

    Some Fat People Actually Work

I feel your pain. I'm a night shift nurse and this process has been exhausting. Finished all the pre approval "homework",Got my surgery date and mistakenly thought there were no more hoops to jump through, WRONG! Worked all night Monday and straight to the clinic for three appointments, fitness eval, bone density, and mental preparedness. Not home till 8 pm, exhausted and mentally drained. Have three more appointments today, surgeon, anesthesia, and NUT, of course all spaced out to be an all day affair, endoscopy the next day, which at least involves sleep, then done for the week just in time to go back to work for the weekend. Have no idea how peeps with normal M-F work schedules manage it all.

    Pre and Post Workout shake

Have you measured? Are your cloths fitting better/looser? Sometimes when you work out hard the scale doesn't move because muscle is more dense than fat for weights more but takes up less room
  9. I want to ride my horses again without feeling to fat, too unathletic, and basically being afraid that one wrong move and I'm coming off because I feel so unbalanced. I want to walk my dogs more than a few blocks without feeling exhausted. Oh, and not shopping in the big girl department, yeah, that will be awesome too
  10. Great job! You look amazing.
  11. Thanks for the replies. My manager will let me come back with the 10 lb lifting restriction however not sure how realistic that is. I'm not the type to say no I can't do this or that at work and we are a small unit so someone not pulling their fair share of the workload is a burden.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Yeah, those health issues sure creep up on us. Even sleeping is a touch uncomfortable at this weight. In the plus side after years of yo yo dieting I think I have the right motivation- to get healthy! Sure looking good will be a nice perk, but I know now that I took good health for granted and that is so not cool

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Oh, guess I should say, I'm 46, an CVICU nurse, BMI 40 5'6 And although I should know better was one of those bad patients with no medical problems because I never saw the doctor. So now am new diabetic with high BP and high cholesterol. Getting that under control with meds and hopefully will legitimately have no medical problems as the weight comes off

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hi, there! Good to meet you all! What an exciting journey we will be on together. Seems I'm on a surgery fast track thanks to company insurance that strongly supports wls. Wednesday was surgical consult and I have , NUT, psych and metabolic test 10/18, fitness 11/19 and if all goes as planned my surgeon expects to do surgery first week in dec. overwhelming but excited.
  15. Excited and overwhelmed at the same time. My insurance seems to be super fast to get approval. Had first primary care appointment in ages on Monday, got a 'new' dx of high cholesterol, high BP and diabetes, appointment with surgeon on Wednesday and if I can get my laundry list appointments done, psych, NUT, fitness, and cardiologist(took phen-fen in the past) they plan a Dec surgery date. Moving fast, but at 46, BMI of 40with all these issues cropping up i'd say past due to get my health and life back on track. Anyone up for a Dec sleepers support group?
  16. Are you an RN? Me too, and I think it makes it harder. I work SICU so instead of seeing the many surgeries that go well, I see the complications. Good news is of all the weight loss surgeries I've seen that have gone badly wrong it has been because of non compliance, going home and eating a whole chicken or Big Mac are just two I remember. I have no illusions that this is an easy answer for any of us, but I do think it's an excellent opportunity to reset the clock and get control of our eating and health once and for all. Just like anything else we have to take personal responsibility for our recovery and results.
  17. Congratulations on taking the first step! I also had my appointment today with the surgeon. The homework list of appointments is overwhelming and scarey. Good luck with your journey.
  18. I'm glad to have found this site, so much good info. I've been to the Weight loss seminar offered by the surgical group and have decided to go forward with VGS. RNY and the malabsorption, has always scared me and not too thrilled with the idea of lap band either so was happy to hear of this alternative. I have Med Cost and they have been really quick to approve coworkers some with much less weight to lose. At 5'6 and 240 lbs I'm pretty disgusted with myself for letting this get so out of control, but as a lifelong yo yo dieter am grateful to have this option to finally get healthy once and for all. It's been inspiring to see the success of friends and read everyone's stories here. Even with the relatively easy approval with my insurance there still are a lot of hoops to jump through. I'm hoping for a January surgery date. Is that realistic? Have to see primary care to document weight and do labs, scheduled for tomorrow, Surgical consult on Wednesday But will still have psych eval, NUT, physical fitness eval, , EGD and at least one support group visit. Seems like an overwhelming list, especially for someone who avoids the doctor like the plague. Yeah, I know odd for a nurse.
