Help! Humana with WLS exclusion
SouthernCharm1383837808 replied to Lindel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I called my ins to see if they covered WLS they said they didn't. But when the surgery center that I'm going to called and gave them the actual billing codes it accepted it. My ins plan has no information concerning WLS in my booklet or the website. But after speaking with the lady at the bariatric clinic I'm going through there were certain protocols. It had to be a bariatric center for excellence in order for my ins to cover it. I'm not sure if you would be able to get the billing coordinator to call and do some leg work for you but it's worth a shot. Honestly I had originally told the lady I knew my ins wouldn't cover it. Boy was I shocked when she came back and said that they would. It never hurts to try. The worst that can happen is your told no. -

What was your follow up like?! How often did he have you coming into the office?! Did you have any complications? Do you currently attend the support group seminars?! Trish is the dietician that I saw for that meeting. So far I'm very pleased with the clinic. Do you use the gym there?! Sorry for the questions, super excited to have found someone from the same office! -

Augusta Georgia here.... -
I haven't had my surgery yet but my physicians office has told us that if you feel nauseated it could be you are getting dehydrated. That you must sip sip sip all day long to stay hydrated. It could also be a gallbladder issue as someone mentioned earlier. My physician did say that most people who tend to have gallbladder issues will have those issues within the first 6 months following surgery. I would contact your physician just to make him aware. I'm sure you wouldn't be the first in their office to have this concern.

Getting psych eval tomorrow
SouthernCharm1383837808 replied to extracat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually had to watch 5 videos and take a test about pre op WLS and fill out paper work and answer a 300 questionnaire. Took a total of 4 hours before the actually eval took place. During the eval I was asked the standard questions about family life, childhood, discussed my relationship with good etc. As one poster said before I think they are looking for underlying issues that may resurface after the surgery just to be aware of them and to know how to help you with those issues hopefully before and after the surgery. -

December 2013 Sleevers Come In!
SouthernCharm1383837808 replied to AtlantaRed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started my journey mid September when I contacted a bariatric group about non surgical weight loss. Found out that non surgical weight loss wasn't covered by my ins. but that surgical weight loss was. I met with the surgeon and attended the class to decide if WLS was right for me. I'm so glad I made that phone call. I've completed the psych eval and the dietician class as well as the initial classes with the surgeon. The only thing I have left to do is have me EGD which is scheduled for the 6th of November, then submit to insurance and wait. I have a tentative surgery date for Dec 3 so I'm hoping that doesn't change. I am very excited about my Christmas gift to myself! I can't wait to not have to shop in the plus size section ever again. My husband can't wait for me to stop snoring. LoL -
Got my date!

Congratulations on your date. You've come so far and you're so close! I'm very excited for you. I'm hoping for a date of December 3 as well but won't know until after I have my EGD done and then I will be given a date. I'm excited! -
Will you lie about the surgery?
SouthernCharm1383837808 replied to BigD35's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maggie the choice is yours. But would you tell them that you lost all the weight by strictly following the diet and exercise plan endorsed by Curves? Diet and exercise doesn't work for everyone. Sometimes we need the additional help. That doesn't mean that you can't set a good example for the members of Curves by exercising and following the meal plan when you are cleared by your physician. I bet some members probably would just assume you are following the plan and it worked. You will have others that want to know your secret because they are having the same struggles as you. Some will probably assume you had the surgery regardless if you tell them or not. This answer isn't going to come to you over night. But there could be other women who are struggling the same way you are and you could be their inspiration. Don't be ashamed in your decision to have surgery. You are doing what is best for you! Be proud of yourself! -
Will you lie about the surgery?
SouthernCharm1383837808 replied to BigD35's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had the operation yet, still awaiting my EGD then my surgery will be scheduled. I'm hoping to have a surgery date of December 3. But I have had a lot of debate with this subject matter as well. A dear family member of mine had mentioned that they were concerned and that I needed to loose weight. So I informed them I was having the operation. The look on their face when I told them said it all. They then tried talking me out of the operation. Saying it was the cowards way out, extremely dangerous, I'd lose all my hair, never be able to eat people good again, etc. I let them speak their mind then I informed them that at one point I thought the same about it being the "easy" way out. That was until I attended all the pre op classes and learned how hard I would have to work to maintain and keep the weight off. That the surgery is a simple jump start to the rest of a healthy lifestyle change for me and will probably be one of the hardest things in my life. Most negative people will either be jealous or not well educated on the surgery. Educate them. Maybe it will change their minds and they could be your number one supporter in the end. I have decided I will not be a closet sleever. To me this operation is to help with the diagnosis of obesity. No different than someone taking medication for blood pressure or insulin for diabetes. This is going to help improve my quality of life. Maybe my experience will help someone else who is on the fence to take the plunge. Best of luck in your decision to tell or not to tell.
