Attention Ladies Who Took Birth Control Pills
plasticbee replied to new_me_2013's topic in The Gals' Room
I took mine with no interruptions at all (Quasense, a generic Seasonale) and have not noticed anything I would call a hindrance. The pill however, still didn't prevent my period from trying to creep up early on me though... at least I had read here enough to know that was a "thing" and didn't panic. HTH. -

Checking for a total loss of 32 pounds since 10/1. Feeling good especially because I still keep thinking I'm not losing weight. My lowest weight recently was around 316, so I'm hoping I'll start seeing changes in myself soon. -
Sleep Apnea Questions
plasticbee replied to Antonette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a CPAP I got at the beginning of the year, set at a fairly high pressure of 15. My sleep dude said I may never be able to not use it (something about narrow airways) because he can't be sure if the weight loss will change that or not. That said, its something I'll be keeping an eye on. I am hoping at the very least to reduce pressure in 50 pounds or so. That said, I wish I had had the CPAP machine before, being able to sleep through the night has been one of the most amazing things ever. Good luck. -
Why am i not losing weight?
plasticbee replied to missypooh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I absolutely hate this stall crap. I knew about it. I read all I found here about it. And yet, its happening and I still feel like I'm failing my sleeve utterly. It's a horrible mindgame I'm playing with myself that I'm trying to get out of (its not working so far!). I know I can't possibly hope to keep up the 20 pounds in 2 weeks stuff (oh how I wish) but right now... bleah. At least I still do feel like I'm losing inches if not weight, at least in the way I feel myself carrying my body. Good luck everyone -
My stomach is in a dumpster somewhere
plasticbee replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got the pathology report copy from my doctors. I don't understand a word of it. Something something red-brown mucosa, I hope that was good? -

Dreaming of Food?
plasticbee replied to Disabledaccount's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally did this the first week and a half of my liquid diet. It was frightening. I just wanted something with texture so badly, I was even dreaming of eating foods I don't like! -
Congratulations! That's great!

Will you lie about the surgery?
plasticbee replied to BigD35's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't and won't lie about it. There really aren't any strangers in my life I feel would comment -- but to anyone I know, I have no problem talking about what I've done or answering questions about it. I feel like a lot of people could benefit from me talking about it openly, since there's such a culture of shaming people either who are overweight or who have had WLS to try to correct this (and not doing it the old fashioned bootstraps way!) that I can only see benefit coming from it, no matter what negative responses. All my responses have been overwhelmingly positive though. I keep trying to think of a situation where I wouldn't be comfortable telling someone and I just can't. Ohwell! -
What was your first solid meal postop?
plasticbee replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not really a meal, but I just got back from 2 week check up (20 pounds omg!) and stopped to get REAL food at the store. I totally ate a piece of deli chicken while I was waiting for the rest to be sliced. It was like the most wonderful thing ever. Now I'm going to go start a batch of turkey chili. SO EXCITED. -

I went in for my 2 week check up today. I had been dreading going. I know I lost some weight, my ankles are no longer hideously swollen for example, but I thought (and kept thinking) "Oh god, I haven't lost enough, I haven't lost a lot what am I doing wrong!" Instead, I find out I'm down 20 pounds since 10/1 YAY! -

Sleeve versus lapband
plasticbee replied to bliiing's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only tell you my experience. I had a lapband put in in 2005. Besides the issues with getting fills (my insurance stopped covering them a few months later, and they were about 200 a pop, not sure if this has gone down since) my doctor had issues finding my port to fill to the point where I regularly had to be xray'd in order to find the spot (more cost to me). After a while, it was not worth the price to go in for fills. Did I lose weight? Yes, definitely. I lost about 50 pounds and kept it off until I had the band removed earlier this year in favor of a sleeve. But, during that time I had constant mild pain at the side of the port and intermittent sharp shooting pain that would literally make me cry. I was just "dealing" with it until my now-husband made me go in to have it looked at. And while there wasn't anything they could find WRONG with the band itself, it was clear it should not be causing that amount of pain at all. I did a lot of research when I was debating on which proceedure to get to revise; between RNY and Sleeve, and while I was researching I also found a lot of people complaining about similar issues to mine with the band. Take that for what its worth, of course. Do your research and decide what's best for you. Good Luck! -
No Energy for Anything....Is this common?
plasticbee replied to 4evernjgirl69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad to know this is normal. I was sleeved 10/1, and I've done almost nothing but sleep and try to get my fluids/protein in. I've tried to get out and walk a few times when I can as well -- but even last week, taking bites of yogurt exhausted me completely. It was so annoying, because I felt like I was failing somehow. I'm hoping that my energy levels start going up more soon, the past two days have been not too terrible, but still more exhaustion than I would like!
