    December 2013 Sleevers

I get sleeved on Dec 4th and start my pre-op diet on Wednesday!

Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC

Hey goofy, my surgery is on Wednesday Dec 4th. I start my pre-op diet in 2 days Ahhhh! I'm really nervous about it because I'm away all week for meetings which will make it very challenging to just eat 3 shakes and leafy greens. Not only because everything is either catered or from restaurant but also because I'm not telling anyone I'm getting sleeved. I am lying. It feels horrible to write that. But it's the choice I'm making. I'm telling everyone I'm getting surgery for a hiatal hernia. But I'm pretty sure there isn't a 15 day pre-op diet for that.

I'm in the same boat, Kindle. I have one layover and then don't land in BC until 10pm and then have an hour and a half drive home. I'm also going alone.

Glad you checked in and are getting some pain relief!!!
  8. Hi goofy I'm at the OCC (on my own) on Dec 4th and start the pre-op diet next week. I'm nervous about it too. But we can do it!!! We are on our way to healthier and happier lives. The pre-op diet is temporary and helps prepare our bodies for surgery. You can do it!

    Self Control

Hi Everyone! My surgery date is December 4th and as the date is getting closer, I'm feeling a wide mix of emotions. The one I've been feeling most recently is fear. My biggest fear is that I will struggle with self control around healthy food choices after surgery in the same way I struggle now. My stomach size will change and that will force a change in the volume of food I eat, but how can I give myself every opportunity to reign in self control when it comes to food choices? A spoonful of chicken is much different than a spoonfull of ice cream. What kinds of things are you doing to help deal with your phychological and emotional relationship with food post-surgery?

Thanks, Derbymama! Did the OCC nutritionist "approve" them or did you just try to get alternatives close to what they recommend?

    Self Control

Great replies, thanks! I quit sugar for a year and it worked well for me. I think that is probably the best course of action for me. If I have a little I just want more and more and more. But I don't want to be malnourished and I want to lose as little muscle as possible. Since my stomach will be so much smaller, I imagine it is very important to make sure I get the Protein, Vitamins and nutrients in first. As also mentioned, self talk and support are key. There are several things to keep up with to make sure we are taking good care of ourselves. Thank God for these forums!!!

    Denial

Great thread pdx, thank you. I have an addictive personality and of all the vices, I think sugar is the worst. We can not avoid it the way we can avoid drugs, alcohol, cigarets etc. If we are addicted to alcohol we can avoid liquor stores and parties. But we can not avoid grocery stores and meals with others. Support becomes extremely important then. And daily reality checks to keep us from falling back into denial. I'm not sure if I should abstain from sugar or try moderation after surgery but I think it would probably be best for me to abstain. Haha, the fact that I'm even thinking of moderation is a sign that my denial comes and goes. The addict part of me is smarter and stronger than the rest of me if I am eating sugar. I truly want to take full advantage of the sleeve and use it as an opportunity to course correct. Anyway, it's great to know that other people relate and I am not alone.
  16. Help :z I have been researching surgeons and facilities for a while now and am going cross-eyed, lol. I think I have finally narrowed it down to these 3: Dr Alejandro Lopez-Ortega Dr Ramos Kelly Dr Ariel Ortiz (I also really liked what I read about Dr. Ismael Cabrera Garcia but he isn't ASMBS certified) I'm looking for ANY feedback, information or experience you have regarding any of the above surgeons or the facilities they use (positive or negative). I'm hoping to book the surgery for the first week of December, so I need to make a decision soon and am hoping your replies will help me Thank you very much!!!

    Lopez? Kelly? Ortiz?

Hi everyone Thank you for all you replies! I decided to go with Dr Ortiz. My second choice was Dr Lopez but I went with Dr Ortiz because of the OCC designation.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Totally feeling nervous, excited and am mourning! My surgery is dec4 and I start pre-op next week. I have gained a few pounds because I find myself craving all the foods I know I won't be able to eat post op. I'm sure it will be challenging not use food for comfort anymore but I think the anticipation of it is worse than it will be. I start thinking I will fail and won't be able to do what I'm supposed to do. Or that I will have complications etc. Thank God for these forums because when I feel like this I can come here and be reminded that it's normal to have a wide range of thoughts and feelings. Then I remember why I am doing this...to regain my health and wellness. I want to be healthy and well

Also...what multi vitamins and shakes are you guys using? I live in Canada and so shipping costs and taxes make the OCC recommended products more expensive. Have you used alternatives?

b2b, I'm glad you will get a few days at home to rest and re-discover some "safe" foods. I wonder why our senses change after surgery? It could also be your body rebelling against the long shifts back to back. My surgery is on Dec.4th and I'm not taking any time off work (other than the time I am away) but I work from a home office and can take breaks whenever I need to. How are you feeling about the new food choices and portions you are eating now? Do you miss any of the old foods? This is my biggest fear...missing my old comfort foods. Enjoy your days off!
