Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC

Just wanted to thank Kindle for starting this thread and thank those who have shared their experiences here This thread helped me chose Dr Ortiz and as I prepare for surgery this coming Wednesday (Dec4th) I can honestly say that I have no regrets about choosing the OCC. I am doing this alone and have only told 2 people about getting sleeved (I told work and others that I am getting hernia surgery) and I am extremely grateful to have this forum to come to. So....THANK YOU everybody!!!!

    Extended release anti-depressants

Thanks everybody I have been very nervous about being able to take them post-op as well as wondering if there would be any issues with absorption after being sleeved. But thankfully, it sounds like it's all manageable. Surgery is this Wednesday so I'll drop in after and report how it goes!

So, you were able to eat yogurt the day after surgery? I'm supposed to be on liquids only for a while afterwards.

    Extended release anti-depressants

Hi Everyone I know this is a very late reply but I'm very nervous about being sleeved and still being able to take Effexor XR. I have read conflicting information and experiences about swallowing pills and opening capsuls. I get discontinuation symptoms the first day I miss or forget a dose (dizzy, shaky, nausea) and I'm concerned I won't be able to take my meds right after surgery. The 150mg pill is almost an inch long...were any of you able to swallow this right after surgery (LadyKatie)? And roships, did any of the little balls get caught in your mouth or throat? Thanks everyone!!!

    Occ Surgery Question

I haven't told my parents yet. In fact I have only told 2 people. I want to tell my parents but I don't want them to worry so I am planning to tell them after. My surgery is next Wednesday.

Hey Mb, I should have clarified that I haven't been sleeved yet (next week). I would just send an email to the nutritionist and ask her tho. She will have options for you.

Hey Guys! Are we allowed broth on the pre op?
  14. Is coffee considered a clear liquid? Or am I going to be experiencing caffeine withdrawal as well as post-surgery pain?
  15. I'm arriving in TJ on the 3rd and getting surgery on the 4th at the OCC with Dr Ariel Ortiz. I am staying at the Marriott. I am going alone so just wondering if anyone else will be there at that time too.

    December 4Th Anyone?

Hi debwin! I'm keeping my surgery date and will be checking in to the Marriott on Tues Dec.3rd. My surgery is on the 4th and then I'm back at the Marriott on the 6th and checking out on the 7th. What about you?

Coffee Is A Clear Liquid, Right?

Hm. And I already struggle with GERD so it makes good sense that I should get off the coffee as well. I will start taking it down over the next week. Not sure if I'll completely get off it before surgery, but at least I won't be totally withdrawing right after surgery.

First congrats on your promotion! I'm assuming your training will be 8 hour days, but I don't know if it's typical training where you're sitting all day. You do get tired some days in the beginning but everyone is different. Also know that when you drink/eat, you're what I call "noisy"- airy and burpy. I still pat myself on my chest when I drink/eat sometimes and apologize to people around me for my "noise". People don't seem to hear it as much as I think they do though. I think it's really hard to focus when you have to sit through those all day training sessions under normal circumstances. You could always buy one of those recorders we used in college so you can review it later on your own time. During that time you will be on full liquids. Thanks b2b! I decided to push back a bit with work. The surgery was scheduled before training and I specifically chose the first week of December because I don't usually don't have customer meetings or need to travel in December. I let them know I could do the training, but that I would conference in. I feel 100% better now. At one point I decided I would postpone the surgery and went off the pre-op diet. But today, I paid the remainder of my fees and talked to the nutritionist who said to jump back on pre-op asap and try to lose 11lbs before next Wednesday. Not sure if I'll be able to do it, but I will exercise more and follow everything exactly. Thanks for the support!
  20. Hi Everyone, Just wondering when you all returned to work after getting sleeved.

    December 4Th Anyone?

Hi debwin! Sorry it took so long to reply, I was away for work. How is your pre-op diet going? I am from BC (Canada). I might postpone my date though. I just got a promotion at work and I need to fly to our head office for training 3 weeks after surgery. I don't think this is realistic. If my body responds well to the surgery and to drinking all my fluids, it could work but that's if everything goes perfect. I don't know that 3 weeks is enough time to rest and recover though. I'll have to make a decision by tonight so I can change arrangements asap. How is your pre-op going??? Are you getting excited, nervous, both?

Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC

Hi Ladies - I need your help/advice. I just got a promotion at work (yay!) and my surgery is scheduled for Dec.4th. I told my company I was getting surgery, but said it was for hiatal hernia. I said I'd need 1 week off for surgery but I could work a few hours per day the following week and should be good to work again, week 3. I said this because even though I travel a lot (at least once per month), I work from a home office and things usually slow down in December (which is why I chose Dec.4th as my surgery date). BUT due to the new promotion, I am being asked to fly to head office for training 2 weeks after surgery. The flight is 5hrs each way and training is over 2 days. My brain needs to be "on" so I can learn what they need me to learn in a short period of time. My questions to you guys (especially to those post surgery): -Is it unrealistic to think I could travel 2 weeks after surgery and be alert enough to retain a bunch of training that is key to my new role? I'm most concerned about being alert enough to absorb the material I'm being taught and organizing the post-op diet for the plane, hotel, and days at head office. I also read about people rejecting food (getting sick) and that scares me Help?
