Serious Decison To Make
jess9395 replied to ZetaStar's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the sleeve because I liked not having the malabsorption and liked having the fundus gone (the stretchy part that produces a lot of the hunger hormone ghrelin). Never thought it was any less invasive--I agree it's totally invasive and non reversible! However I think it has a long enough history to not be the "flavor of the month" either. It has its own pros and cons. Member @bellablooom is a bypass to sleeve revision and talks about it freely. Check out her posts. -
Dress size conundrum
jess9395 replied to Shainadelphia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah and smaller too. Only about a 10lb difference between 0/2/4/6 oh my experience, but it's probably a good rule of thumb esp for sizes 6/8/10/12 (again in my experience) and more like 40 for 14/16/18 and maybe even more above that and in the W sizes--again that was my experience. Also varies by brand of course! -
What can I do with...cottage cheese?
jess9395 replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
OMG I have to laugh, I was reading this as a recipie rather than a list of different suggestions and was taken aback--Was considering maybe trying the odd combination but the volume of it all know you added the egg AND the chicken...LOL...and now on early could all that together be termed a chicken salad? I think I need some sleep! -
I second this. Had no idea I had a hiatal hernia until they opened me up to do the sleeve. They say most overweight people have one.

Top 5 things to bring with to the hospital.....GO!
jess9395 replied to juno5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure your hospital will let you have things like gas x strips, biotene and the like. Mine wouldn't unless I had orders from my surgeon. I wanted cough drops/lozenges very badly and even brought some but they had to get the doctor to order them and then I had to use theirs! Maybe a good idea to get your surgeon to clear you to use them up front, you might get to have them more quickly! Took hours to get the order for throat lozenges! -
Top 5 things to bring with to the hospital.....GO!
jess9395 replied to juno5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chapstick Long phone charger My own pillow Ear plugs Can't think of a fifth. I way overpacked and these are the only things I really needed, and to be honest the hospital gave me ear plugs too so j could have done without them. -
My favorites are apple pie, vanilla almond and chocolate brownie. My 13 year old sons steals all my cinnamon roll and my 17 year old daughter prefers the white chocolate raspberry.

I had a very hard time with it early out. Too stringy and tough for my stomach. I had to do turkey jerky which was more tender. Also the teriyaki style seems to be less tough and stringy (I think the marinade tenderizes the meat more?) though it can have a bit more sugar. Take it easy, chew well and try a little when you are allowed to. I was allowed at the final stage, when everything was allowed and not before. Even two years out I have to be careful and can only do the more tenderized versions, though I eat those several times a week!

What is Your Exercise Experience Post Plastics...
jess9395 replied to NewSetOfCurves's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I want to get my thighs done next year to remove the skin. How are you legs exercise post plastics? How soon could you run again for example? Not the original poster here but my plastics doc said six weeks before I could run again (I ran a full marathon 10 days before plastics and did yoga 3-4x per week). I was back to half marathon level by four months post plastics and back to 3-4x per week yoga so everyone is different. I had breast lift/aug, tummy tuck and arms all at the same time. -
I need a card like that!! Google and print one out for yourself--lots of pix of examples on the Internet ????
-
If you search google or google images lots of examples pop up. You could probably print your own out if your doc didn't give you one. bariatric surgery card for restaurants Is what I googled and found lots

TT scars what's typical
jess9395 replied to Meintraining's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
That does seem like a lot of extra money to upgrade to the tummy tuck. That's about what mine was without any insurance kick in. I don't think a regular tummy tuck with help with the back. A 360 lift or a vertical incision (anchor lift) would be needed to address that. -
TT scars what's typical
jess9395 replied to Meintraining's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
did you get any lymphatic massages thank you so much for answering this and clarifying this, I was told if I didn't get massages I could possibly get seroma , have a great day, and congratulations on all of your progress I never got massages either and recovered very quickly and easily. No residual swelling after maybe six weeks and certainly no seromas. -
Other surgeries to explain scars to new partner
jess9395 replied to Shainadelphia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For what it's worth, my gall bladder scars are on my right side and my WLS ones are on my left. I also have some from my laparoscopic tubal and one is really high and not where they typically are. Well that's where they all WERE till my TT/panniculectomy removed a lot of them ???? I go with the don't ask don't tell and if he presses say laparoscopic abdominal surgery. If he presses more more say it's personal, but j can't imagine he will. -
Haven't had any problems and it's a big mainstay in my diet.

My mom used to make yogurt pie--graham cracker crust filled with a mixture of 2/3 yogurt and 1/3 cool whip. You could do that with Greek yogurt for the Protein and sugar free cool whip, or even real homemade whip cream with no sugar or fake sugar. Then just eat out the filling and leave the crust while others eat the crust. I like to make it with Key lime yogurt and it's a mock key lime pie!

Oh my Protein, how I love you let me count the ways....but I am Traveling?

Need ideas for Xmas gift for recent VSG patient
jess9395 replied to Emily_35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gift card to a store for new clothes? Or if it's your mom, a shopping trip together to buy new clothes? -
I would normally do that but there are many places I go where I can't take leftovers with me. For example, Vegas. I'll be going there again in February and won't be able to take leftovers. Or when we went to Disney my husband would have liked to pay kids price for some of the special dining events we did. I have heard reports that Disney doesn't honor the cards. Anyone have any different experience?

I feel like I'm in a sequel of "Thinner".
jess9395 replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Happened to me till I hit 135 (I am 5'6"). Once I hit there I stopped. And now it's kinda the same--eat well, eat junk (within reason) and I stay the same. So maybe you just aren't at your new set point yet? Maybe when you get there it will stop. -
Feeling Guilty About Not Telling My Obese Friends
jess9395 replied to sleevedup's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
While I agree you are not obligated and you're not a bad friend... Let me present another point of view. I had Never heard of the sleeve until a friend of mine started down the road and shared openly with me. I had decided no bypass for me years before and stopped researching. I had mine three months after she did. A year after I had mine a friend of mine with whom I had been open got hers done (again she had never heard of it before). Six months after she had hers another friend of mine had hers done because I had shared. Just think about the good you could do if you pay it forward. Nope you don't have to. Nope you aren't a bad friend if you don't. But I am beyond indebted to the friend who shared with me and I believe the two I shared with fee the same. -
It takes a LOT of bananas to get your potassium up enough. Try some other sources--white Beans, squash, dark green leafy vegs, salmon, mushrooms are all actually HIGHER in potassium than bananas and yogurt is close behind. All have fewer grams of sugar and some even have Protein. http://www.healthaliciousness.com/articles/food-sources-of-potassium.php http://www.health.com/health/m/gallery/0,,20721159,00.html Regardless with your decreased capacity it will be tough to get enough in. Do consider supplements. I drink NUUN because I run, but my mother in law gets cramps like yours and started drinking it (it's calorie free) and her cramps have gone away.

Yeah, I'm not sure. But even now at below 135, my fingers don't touch when I do that. I think I'm a lot taller than you though--5'6". I looked it up on the internet today and t was all either wrist measurement vs height or elbow width versus height. I still maintain that "padding" can affect that, LOL! Oh well, I'm gonna go with medium frame, but when I was still obese my wrist measurement would have put me at large and that shouldn't change based on weight!

Just learned my surgeon doesn't give pain meds after surgery!
jess9395 replied to Tishthedish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope you are one of the ones who has no pain or that they change their tune based on how you do in the hospital. I had a relatively easy recovery but did need pain meds for the first two days and at night for a few more days.
