    Tanning/Sunscreen

Wow yeah I was told to protect mine for a year and I've been doing just that. I'd rather have no tan (wearing long sleeve gauzy button up open shirt over sunscreen) or keep the tape on and have white stripe for a few weeks than have less than optimal scar forever. I say keep them covered.
  2. I only took them for two months. My doc only prescribes them for one month typically I just needed them for a second.
  3. Same diet as every other day! Only time I change t up is when I run for more than 6 miles (an hour or so) and then I add about 100 calories per every extra 2-3 miles/30 mins.

Did you make them? Buy them? I want some!

    Shopping

Wait so you are gonna wear it for 180 days and then return it?
  6. I looked into what It would take to get my Registered Dietician qualifications because I really thought I would be a great addition to my bariatric surgeons office! Sadly it was way to extensive a process... Basically two years of undergrad classes (I already have a masters in psych) and then a year of full time internships in all kinds of unrelated settings... Hospitals, geriatrics, etc. dang!
  7. I totally agree, good choices can be found most anywhere if you look. However in my experience these good choices are rarely found on the kids menu so I never worry about using the card. I can usually find better choices on the adult menu--often on the appetizers or add ons menu. Or I split with someone.

    Healthy Crackers?

I like the 100% cheese crackers like Wausome wafers and Moon Cheese. They are pricey but all natural and 0 carbs. I also make my own with Parmesan cheese in the oven on parchment paper and with Sargento Ultra thin sharp cheddar. I wish I liked the Quest chips but to me they taste like cardboard. =(

I've been eyeing those flavor God ones... They are worth the price? Which is your favorite? Figure I will start with one.

Bra math - don't try this at home.

Well it depends. I myself have donated some to goodwill that have barely been worn because I bought the wrong size or shrunk or grew out super quickly. Anyway my point is it's perfectly legal and not against any Health code violations. If you don't like to wear used clothes, you are certainly more than entitled to that choice. Some of us make a different choice and that's fine too. Just pointing out we aren't risking our health in doing so ????

Bra math - don't try this at home.

It's perfectly legal. Jeans actually have more skin cells left on them than bras because they have more skin contact. Hot Water and detergent and bleach kill any germs. They don't sell used underwear. But bras they do. Breasts are just skin unless I suppose you are lactating. No difference between those and a tank top or jeans or any other skin contact. Now shoes... Because of the fungus issue and hats because of the lice issue I wouldn't purchase because you can't even wash those.

    Food variety

As a rule most days I am boring. Little variety and I know what works. Yeah I do tend to eat more when I taste more different things in a meal (a bite here and there). At restaurants I eat less if I order my own small plate than if I eat a bit of each family members plate instead. This simple plan got me to goal and keeps me at goal. BUT one or two days a week and especially on vacation I let loose and do the opposite. I sample and taste and love it and have a good time. It's why the price of a buffet doesn't seem a waste to me even though the amount I eat isn't "worth" it. So.... I say go for t on your cruise you only live once! Then when you get home, get back to basics.
  15. Maybe see if your doc can test your levels to see if your body is absorbing enough. Both stress/anxiety and restless leg have even linked to low B12

Sounds entertaining! No knocking Henri Mancini, just prefer songs I can sing along to!

Dang clearly I missed the post with all the cursing out! I love them for the entertainment value! Henri Mancini's love theme to Romeo and Juliet, how boring!

What can I do with...Brussels Sprouts?

Roast em with olive oil and Shallots or onions toss in balsamic glaze from trader joes (you could also make your own balsamic reduction) and goat Cheese.
  21. Complex carbs are the good ones--veggies, fruits, sweet potatoes, quinoa--bread rice and Pasta (unless you are talking whole grain) are the simple carbs. It's all a choice. My daughter has avoided bread rice and pasta on her own since she was about four. My son is like me and LOVES them. When I first took his Mac an cheese and chicken nuggets and pizza and made them treats instead of staples he had a FIT but he's okay now. They can definitely meet their energy requirements without the white/simple carbs that you need to avoid. They might hate it at first, but they would adjust and might be healthier in the long run. If you don't want to make that choice, that's FINE. Everyone is entitled to make their own dietary choices. You can feel your children however you want. I'm just saying it CAN be done. You said you couldn't. I'm a firm believer in knowing you have a choice and then supporting whatever your choice is.
  22. Are you taking your B12? Those can both happen with low B12 levels and that's one of the vitamins that is really difficult post op because of where and how it's absorbed. Make sure you are following recommendations on that!
  23. Well I was responding to your other post saying "bread pasta and rice is bad for kids? I don't think so." I actually think too much of those things IS bad for kids. They are too quickly converted to sugar in the body and even though they are quite thin now my kids have my genes so I's rather they learn to avoid those particular carbs. I have never claimed to have the perfect diet before or after but that's one of the reasons I want to encourage my kids to have a better diet now. All the carbs I listed that they DO eat regularly I eat as well except for the bread and pasta and rice and they are a treat in our house so I usually keep them out of the house (one loaf of bread at a time). You said.... "We don't have any junk food in our house, but our kids do eat bread, rice and pasta. I can't rid the house of those foods. They are all quite thin and need carbs as an energy source. I am the only one in our house that needs to eat less." I do keep those things out of the house and keep carbs that are Ok for me to eat. That's my point.
  24. We don't have any junk food in our house, but our kids do eat bread, rice and Pasta. I can't rid the house of those foods. They are all quite thin and need carbs as an energy source. I am the only one in our house that needs to eat less. I have kids and their way of eating has changed a LOT since my surgery and they have always been thin and don't need to diet (I have a growing teen boy who eats a TON lol!) They now eat only whole wheat or sourdough (no sugar) bread and only two slices a day. They either have it at Breakfast and lunch is more Protein based (tuna salad, chicken salad, meat and cheese roll ups, etc) or they can have a sandwich at lunch. I no longer serve bread at dinner. Potatoes are once or twice a month as is pasta. I can't remember when I last made rice! Sides are Beans and yams and veggies and salads. Lots of lean protein, fruit and veggies. Lots of dairy. Whole wheat crackers and cheese (I am careful to buy crackers I don't particularly like LOL!), apples and Peanut Butter, tortilla chips (which luckily I don't care for) with salsa and guacamole, raw veggies wth homemade hummus or blue cheese Greek yogurt dressing. Kids don't NEED pasta, rice, potatoes and bread.

C25K speed question from a very novice runner :)

I did mine outside so I couldn't say how fast i ran but it was verrrrrrryyyyy slow at first! I've been running for about two years now and I always say it doesn't matter how fast or how slow you are you're lapping everyone on the couch! Go as slow as you like, don't overdo. Then when you're done if you want to increase your speed, do the program again faster! Or run slow on the "walk" intervals and faster on the "run" ones. Just do it!
