  1. As I tell most people "I eat clean except when I don't". 80% whole clean foods. But my sleeve seems to be smaller than many, even now I can't get in my Protein needs without Protein powder or a Protein Bar most days. So most days is 80% clean/whole foods and either a scoop of protein powder (in a shake or smoothie, mixed into my oatmeal or made into a protein mug cake or pancake) or a Quest or power crunch bar. Btw I am 2.5 years out and have been in maintenance for 1.5 years.

    Checking in alone?

My mother in law drove me and walked me to the pre op waiting area then she went home. My husband came by after I was back in my room to visit and then again right before I went to sleep. Next day he came back after work and drove me home. As everyone else has said, the biggest issue may be driving home... Check with your hospital. But I also know I wasn't up to driving home and if you've had any narcotic pain relief you can't drive till its out of your sudtemx
  3. Oh yikes! Can't imagine anything I'd want to see less, LOL. But if you want it why not ask?

    What's your favourite...

Oh too many!!! But here's one I hadn't listened to in a while that I listened to this week: "Standing calmly at the crossroads, no desire to run. There's no hurry anymore when all is said and done. " Mamma Mia soundtrack the only song written specifically for the show not an Abba song, When All Is Said and Done From my high school days: "At least there's pretty lights, though there's little variation. It nullifies the night from overkill" Overkill by Colin Hay/men at work And from my latest obsession Hamilton (Lin Manuel Miranda) there are too many to mention but here's one.... "I am the one thing in life I can control. I am inimitable I am an original"
  5. Ask most vets and they tell you the hunger comes back some (not as badly as before, but real hunger) between a year and two years out. Hunger is a complex system regulated by more than one system/hormone/modulator. Removing the fundus removes the largest manufacturer of ghrelin but there are other sources and the body is a wonderfully complex system that adapts amazingly well.

  7. I lost more than 100%. It's definitely harder and you burn fewer calories moving around a smaller body, but how much you lose is solely dependent on how hard you work!!!! Definitely make the most of the 6-12 month window when it's the easiest and your sleeve is working the hardest. The hunger will come back.
  8. Yeah exactly @@OutsideMatchInside you need to know if you "skin" has subcutaneous fat attached. When you watch those shows like Skin Tight, they have LOTS of subcutaneous fat. When I was measure at 17% body fat (5'6" 135lbs) my loose skin was just that. Paper thin skin. If you pinched it it was thin skin. Not even 1/4" when pinched.

How is yoga useful in weight loss?

Totally depends on the type of yoga for sure! Vinyasa, Asthanga, power, bikram, hot yoga--Those all work you aerobically and burn a lot of calories. They also build muscle which in turn burns more calories at rest. Yin, restorative, and types like that are more meditative and relaxing and stretching. They prevent injury and maintain flexibility.

    Loose skin versus body fat

I dunno but I had a DEXA scan done when I was a year out at goal but lots of extra skin. It had me at 17% body fat. I have a lot of muscle but I can't imagine measuring that low if it were measuring my extra skin (this was before plastics) as fat.

    Low calorie chewing gum?

No one ever told me not to chew gum. I chew it all the time and haven't had an issue.
  15. Love this article: Water park with my kids going down water slides wearing a bikini without even wrapping a towel around me. But I see candid pictures and critique the "softness" that almost six weeks of no running and no yoga has wrought. Just got clearance to exercise again, hooray! But taking care to do it for the love of the activity and the health and fitness it brings rather than to "fix" my body. Anyhow, I needed this read today, which appeared on my Facebook timeline because one of my favorite yoga instructors, the one whose strength truly turned me onto yoga. I thought someone else might need the read too.

    Drain

Not to scare you but the drains sometimes DO hurt coming out. It's super fast and over quickly but it can hurt. Take pain reliever before you go in to get it moved.

    Cycling Nutrition question

As I said I am a marathoner not a cyclist but the issues are similar. I don't "carb load" per se. My body doesn't respond well to them either. I do eat more fruit and oatmeal in the days leading up to a race, but more and more the research is showing carb loading is sort of a fallacy anyway. Your body adapts to burn the fuel you feed it on a regular basis. So most of the new recommendations are to eat what you normally eat, nothing new that can upset your stomach.

    Drain

I didn't have one for my sleeve but had them for my plastics. as all have said they aren't THAT bad. I wouldn't try to change any doctors mind about what has worked for them in the past

Appetite and intensity of your training

I hear you. When I am marathon training I experience the same thing! Adding an extra Protein shake post workout helps. Or another high protein snack-- a scoop of Protein powder in oatmeal, a Quest or power crunch bar. When I eat one of these things post workout it curbs my appetite somewhat for the rest of the day. I also find low calorie Snacks like cucumbers or snap peas to crunch on when I get the munchies. I'm lucky I'm in maintenance and can eat a bit more. Keep track of the calories you burn in your workouts so you can eat them back. That helps too!

    Post your progress pics

These are out there on other threads but here are my before/during/after. Surgery December 2013 down 136lbs and maintaining.
  21. Surgery. You have a certain amount that will spring back but after 2 years it's sprung back all its going to. I run 30 or more miles a week, do 4-5 hours of intense yoga a week, have killer arm muscles and 17% body fat. I needed surgery for my loose skin. Sadly I wish there was another answer, but there isn't.
  22. I'm over 2.5 years and still use protein powder (in a shake, mug cake, poured in my oatmeal, etc) or bar most days.
  23. My doctor allowed people coffee in the hospital. I gave it up for a few months because of the acid (I had an issue with that post op). Started back up and three months and have had it regularly ever since. Successfully lost 136lbs and keeping it off.

    Hospital Stay?

Mine said plan for two nights but when I received the insurance paperwork it only said one. I talked to the coordinator/nurse to clarify and she reassured me that they extend it if the doctor feels it's necessary but typically only authorize one day at a time. That said, I was home the next day. I had the sleeve.
