    Seriously?

I think there is something in between "cuddling" and "a kick in the ass". I'm neither a cuddling person but I'm also not a fan of this so called "tough love" (which is more often than not simply just plain rude). I'll never understand people who want to be yelled at instead of receiving factual criticism. I just don't get it. --- Not directed at a certain user: As for myself: I don't want to be cuddled but I also don't want a swift kick to my back. Give me factual criticism and keep sarcasm and whatnot to yourself! So if someone holds the opinion that he/she needs to give me some "tough love": Just F*** Off! If you're not able to voice your opinion in a civilized kind of way, just go away. Your "advice" might not be as unique and special as you think and I'm sure there is someone who's able to voice the exactly same advice in a more factual manner. Good thing there are all types of advice here for all types of listeners. Not sure I would have been as successful as I've been without some swift kicks in the pants, so I'm glad they exist on here. Take what you like and leave the rest. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  3. Thanks for replying! I've hearts you say before your plan was three meals a day no snacks so I always wondered! I could never have fit in enough that way but now that I see you could supplement wth shakes I get it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. So the protein shakes don't count as a meal or snack? You can have three meals AND protein shakes? That I could do. I always wondered how you could get all the protein in eating only three meals. I mean I know some people do it but I couldn't have done it. But if you add in protein shakes then I get it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App It totally depends on how many calories are in those small meals. Protein shakes have protein and calories. They are not a "free food". I had to stop having protein shakes when I could get my calories in from food. Ha ha! 100-200 calories 4-5 small meals day is how I lost 135lbs. I couldn't get in enough calories or protein in three meals. Still can't most days at three years out. I was specifically asking bufflehead because I know she did it on three meals and I was just curious if she counted the shakes as meals (which I did) or if they were on top of her meals. Three meals and two shakes could get me there. Believe me I'm three years out two years at goal not looking for free food. I still can't get my calories and protein in some days Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I use a Protein shake. Vanilla typically but recently I've been using pumpkin spice (muscle milk brand) and eggnog (health wise brand) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. This is the reason I had to supplement with Protein shakes until over 2 years out and still do several days a week. Stopping when satisfied (even before full) is key in my experience because eventually you will be able to eat more than you can now. But protein minimums are key as well. No way could I have done both if my plan was one of the strict 3 meals a day no Snacks. I still do 5-6 mini meals daily. Talk to your NUT and say just what you've said to us here and see what the advice is. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Before & After - 3yrs +

I'm three years out. Sleeve. I'm up 5lbs from my lowest but have made the choice to stay here relatively easily rather than struggle for those last 5 vanity pounds forever. 271-136 and now I'm 141. Wearing size 4. Does that count as a long termer? What do you want to know? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    9 weeks post-op and I dislike eating

I've been there. Honestly I'd rather be there than where I was before surgery. You just do it like you take out the trash or empty the cat box or any other chore you don't like. It doesn't last forever. Sorta wish it did LOL Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  17. Lots of studies are showing that two weeks isn't long enough to make a difference with fatty liver. So many surgeons do not do the pre op diet. Some do because they figure any change is better than none and some have other reasons (demonstrating compliance, getting your head ready for it) and thus use a pre op diet. Some even base it on your starting BMI whether you do one or not. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Can you get chewable Vitamins? Would that help? And have your Iron levels checked. When I had cravings to chew things like ice (which can be hard on your teeth, be careful I literally fractured my jaw once chewing ice) I had iron deficiency anemia. 19. I had no pre op diet three years ago. Non alcoholic fatty liver disease is quite common when we are obese and the liver enzymes are elevated. Unlike some of the things that get better immediately (diabetes, blood pressure) it can actually get worse before it gets better for the reasons stated above--the liver is taxed during weight loss. My liver is only now starting to normalize at three years out! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. Easy enough! Sort the beans for stones and skins, rinse well and soak over night in cold Water. The next morning, remove any floaters and rinse the beans well. In the bottom of a pot, fry up some chopped bacon, chopped garlic and diced onion onions. Pour in the drained beans and fill pot with half water, half chicken stock. Simmer beans until tender. (If you have a ham bone, throw that in there for sure!) I add seasonings, but I go by sight, not by measurements. A generous amount of cumin, salt, pepper, and garlic powder goes in the pot once the water is hot enough to dissolve it all. I adjust the spices according to the taste of the broth, so I am no help there. I do skim the fat off the top of the soup as it cooks out. We usually eat half the beans as soup and the other half I drain completely and mash. I fry them up in a bit of oil, with cheese, and you'll have excellent refried beans. Add sour cream, salsa verde, avocado... YUM! Ok this is awesome! I'm gonna try it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pregnancy/fertility/kids

Yay! Good for you for taking this step to be around for your kids!!!! I have no idea about the sperm count issue that's something a medical professional is best to advise you on. You are being very considerate regarding your wife and her pregnancy experience, again yay you! I would suggest waiting till the first trimester is over so she has the worst of it in the past that when women usually struggle the most. Plus then you will know if she's on her way to a healthy pregnancy. Perhaps do the pre op stuff and be ready to "go" with the surgery when she's early in the second trimester... able to care for you in the early post op period without feeling like a whale, LOL! Anyhow good luck to you ! I think it's a wonderful thing to want to be around for your wife and kid... and considerate to plan around her needs as well! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Seriously?

Where do you get that 60% figure? And even if it's true that leaves 40% who stuck to their plan (I'm another that finds the word "cheat" inaccurate, it's a choice to eat off plan) so why do you not believe that someone is part of that 40%? I think you see anger where none exists. See above post that delineates bullying vs straight talk. No anger here. I did stick to my plan. In part thanks to a Vitamin shoppe employee who basically told me to suck it up when I was moaning about not being able to "tolerate" the clear Protein. She said it's a week of your life, it doesn't taste good, suck it up and do it anyway. If she hadn't said that to me I might not have stuck to my plan. Some of us thrive with the straight talk. If you tell us we can't do that, those people will flounder. You can have your positive encouragement posts and threads if that's how you thrive.... but you can't say we can't have the other. People have different needs! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
