BTW I have never had any trouble with weight gain while marathon training. I mean you do have to be conscious of the "rungries" as they call it, but I don't experience it any more marathon training than half marathon training. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I've done two full marathons (and countless half marathons and relays and triathlons) since surgery. Fueling is something you will need to experiment with and figure out what works for you. For the average runner they recommend 100 calories of quick carbs (gels, gu, Beans, honey stinger waffles, Gatorade, whatever) every 45 mins. I do well with that ratio myself but you will need to find what works for you. I like banana and Peanut Butter about an hour before a long run or oatmeal with a scoop of Protein powder in it. I also like to use Lara bars and dried fruit as fuel. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Tubes tied but loose after sleeve surgery
jess9395 replied to Tamaneek's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I don't understand how that's possible. Most tubal ligation procedures don't really tie the tubes, they cut and cauterize them. Or clamp them shut. Weight loss shouldn't have any impact on female sterilization surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
4 days post-op, trouble staying awake?
jess9395 replied to ahappycamper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could barely rouse enough energy to stand up for my shower. Yeah pretty normal post op between the recovery and the lack of calories. Hang in there it gets better! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I love these but I can eat way too many of them, they are a slider for me! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hiatal hernia and sleeve
jess9395 replied to Hazel_eyez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you on a proton pump inhibitor like protonix or omeprazole? Tums isn't enough to battle the level of acid most of us have post op. That's what it sounds like to me. I had a hiatal hernia repaired when I had my surgery and needed a PPI for two months post op then I was fine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Yeah lots of mixed info out there about GENEPRO. A search of the site will show it's pretty controversial. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Couple other suggestions-- fairlife milk (ultra filtered so fewer carbs and more Protein, Lucerne also makes a version called protein plus) and Greek no sugar added yogurt. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Keep trying other shakes till you find one that works for you. I tried all the usual suspects and felt the same and just kept trying more. Now I have several brands that work for me--Syntrax Matrix, Click, BSN Syntha-6 (higher in carbs so I don't use as often) and Quest. I also sorta like the Syntrax nectar. Lots of people love Premier Protein, but I think it tastes like plastic LOL, but that is an example of why we each need to try many types sometimes before we find the one that works for us. Oops. Thanksgiving. Too much pie thankfulness
jess9395 replied to Julie norton's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Somewhere I read it's not what you eat from thanksgiving to New Years but what you eat New Years to thanksgiving. I'm not going that far, but yea not gonna worry about the fact that I ate more carbs in one day than the whole week! Just won't let it become a new normal. Ditto it's not one thing it's a million little ones and it's so much harder and less "sexy" than the loss phase! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I started couch to 5k about four weeks after surgery and worked my way up to a 5k at six months out a half marathon at 9 months out and a full marathon at 18 months out! You can do it! Don't worry about the Water. By several months out I could drink normally again! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

jess9395 replied to KristenVSG2014's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I maybe out of the ordinary but I did arms tt and breasts at the same time and was back to normal about two weeks later. I wasn't allowed to run for six weeks, but felt like I could have after two. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

jess9395 replied to KristenVSG2014's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
lol yeah I much preferred my boobs after they dropped! The Barbie look wasn't for me. And don't freak out if you lose nipple sensation at this point, it can still happen. I had sensation right after surgery but then lost it but it came back a couple months later. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I think it has to do with swelling maybe? You will have the rest of your life for pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes. They are just food. Why is it that important? You can literally have them ANY DAY for the rest of your life. Examining why it's that important to you could be helpful. As would looking at why you are asking a bunch of Internet strangers that question. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I see there are the round sticks (like a slim Jim) and the "slabs" that are more like thick jerky. Are the textures better on one than the other? I had the habanero slim Jim type (elk-beef) and that was the one I really liked! Thanks for your input! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Are revisions REALLY necessary?
jess9395 replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes! This has been my daughters experience as well, her rheumatologist told us almost 30% of RA patients are "factor negative" and blood tests are not as definitive as they once thought Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

High sodium in power aid zero.
jess9395 replied to P7rancher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Btw yes I'm with you, research shows carbonation doesn't stretch anything. It's air for goodness sake. My surgeon recommends using the sugar free syrup from the soda stream machines and just add still Water or like you say, let the bubbles out and the fizz die before drinking. High sodium in power aid zero.
jess9395 replied to P7rancher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Carbonation still hurts for me three years out. Try crystal light. The thing with electrolyte drinks like Gatorade and Powerade is sodium IS an electrolyte so they will always have quite a bit of sodium, it's why they exist. As a runner I need that sodium during or after a marathon. If someone is dehydrated they need sodium. Those drinks have a purpose and if you're using them just because you don't like the taste of Water... well try something else instead Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

What the hell are you talking about? 60% of people mess up? Did you pull that number out of your bottom? Stop projecting. Whether people have sugar or choose to live their lives without sugar, it's ultimately about what works for THEM. Stop telling people that they are LYING if they choose a plan that works for them? I know a woman who had a bypass 15 years ago who has not had one peice of candy, cake, or anything like that because she knows if she does, she will spiral out of control. It's what works for HER, especially since she's kept the weight off for 15 years. Who am I to argue with her? I suggest you get a bit further along than a couple of weeks post op to find what works for you before you start accusing people of living a lie. Yeah I asked where the 60% came from too and got crickets. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
