I had one a month ago and they gave me a prep kit with smaller doses, sounds like maybe the one@mariernest mentions!

Help Craving Texture and to chew food
jess9395 replied to Mallory77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sigh.... Well to the OP, please be careful. Just because another person fresh out of surgery thinks they are just fine doesn't mean they are. Try hard to resist the urge to go off your plan. For your own sake! -
No Special Pre-Op Diet?
jess9395 replied to Johnnyrud's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just did clear liquids from noon day before, no other special diet. You are trusting your doctor to cut you open, if you can't trust his diet recommendations perhaps you should rethink the cutting part, LOL -
Smart! I tell people you trusted your doc to cut you open, trust your doc to advise your diet. And... to those who say listen to your body or you know your body best... well listening to my body got me obese! I'm gonna listen to someone else for a while.

Help Craving Texture and to chew food

Please don't encourage others to do as you are. You may indeed be "perfectly fine" you may be doing yourself some damage you aren't yet aware of. Regardless, it's not responsible to set yourself up as more of an expert than the posters doctor. -
What should I get from Chipotle?
jess9395 replied to Iwanttofitinmyweddingdress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ah I was just confused by your initial post then, you said they were talking about BBQ and you thought of chipotle as a possible healthier way of eating. I thought you meant it was healthier than BBQ. -
Eating certain things?
jess9395 replied to Martinichic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're still really early out! I couldn't do eggs for six months, red meat was even longer... and I STILL can't do much bread unless it's toast. I don't include it in my diet usually anyway, no need to. Rice is another thing I still can't do. Carrots are iffy unless they are cooked. -
What should I get from Chipotle?
jess9395 replied to Iwanttofitinmyweddingdress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What's wrong with BBQ? Grilled meat is a great source of protein! Just don't drown it with BBQ sauce. From chipotle when I was early out I would just get a side of meat (yup they will do that in a little 2 oz container!) Next step for me was burrito bowl with fajita veggies and meat. Then I added salsa and maybe sour cream or guac. Now I can do a salad bowl and every so often add the beans. -
People who don't have issues don't tend to post, that's all!

Seems backwards to me I had the 24 hour test first which showed the high cortisol then they looked for the cause with the cat scan. But I'm sure your doctor is on top of it. Just don't assume the problem is cortisol without proof, otherwise you could be missing the real problem

NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!
jess9395 replied to Lexington1020's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
That is commentary not science. Science has proven some of what she says isn't true no matter how much sense it makes to you, specifically the stretching part. I don't know the science behind some of the rest and I know some of it is being studied but is currently inconclusive. -
I don't vilify all carbs and nope not same category as a candy bar, but saying they aren't necessary isn't saying they are. I also don't consider beans in the same category as whole grains and fruit is another category altogether. There aren't two categories of food, "bad" and "good." Some food is better than other foods for weight loss. Some foods are a regular part of a healthy diet, some are good in moderation and some better as an occasional treat. And it's different for everyone. Truth is we NEED protein because our body can't manufacture it. We need vitamins and fiber, but can get them from supplements. We also need energy, but we can convert extra calories from any source into energy--not just carbs.

Protein shakes with 7 grams sugar is this too much?
jess9395 replied to sylvia2017's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ah got it. I know nada about that. Glad you ran it by your doctor! -
I didn't. I was even lower than you, maybe 600 calories. Similar protein numbers. I didn't do anything differently diet wise, figured I had plenty of extra energy stored! Once I started half marathons is when I started actually working about fueling.

The scars would be worse with weight loss? Please explain. I don't understand.

Did anyone else not need a endoscopy??
jess9395 replied to rachel_babe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor found a hiatal hernia during the procedure and repaired it. Odd to me that an insurance wouldn't cover it if it hasn't been discovered pre op. Mine (blue cross anthem) covered it just fine. -
Hmmmm I'm perplexed then, esp since I assumed you weren't eating lactose because you said it caused you problem, but the butter and cheese are ok? Sounds like you could do keto with some plant based fats? Olive oil, nuts and nut butters. That kind of thing?
-
I ran all through my weight loss. If your goal is to lose more weight, it will help you do that. My question is why did you get your plastics surgery plan a year before you intended to have it? A lot can change in a year running or not. And it should matter how much YOU want to lose not your surgeon. Your surgeon should be able to adapt your plan. Yes running burns aprox 100 calories per mile, but that's a rule of thumb and depends on your weight. it's also true for walking!

I never had to limit fat so the chili was fine for me. Another favorite of mine is the Starbucks Sous Vide egg bites. I get the egg white ones. Even now i can usually only eat one so the pair gives me a leftover for later! Starbucks also has Siggis Icelandic yogurt which packs a huge protein punch!

Ok, I'm gonna apologize, I reacted quickly because you were rude and insulting. I stand by what I said, but... Flat out isn't what I call toast, so I will admit when you said toast I figured you meant bread since that's what the poster asked about. Anyhow, I will argue that we don't need any refined carbs for a good six months. I never said they were evil but I would argue that no one needs REFINED carbs. But flat out is better than most. Still, its refined and we don't need it, there are better choices. Awfully high REFINED carb for my diet, and not a significant source of river, even now at goal where I have been for three years. And I run 15-20 miles per week and do 4-5 hours of yoga class per week. These are the 100% whole wheat and 100% whole wheat "light"...
-
I would like to see the label of your bread showing it has a lot of fiber in half a slice. And by a lot, I mean more than 3-4 grams. I didn't say it was evil I said you didn't need it. Now who is having reading comprehension trouble? And I will admit I'm surprised your surgeon allows you toast before applesauce or yogurt, both sources of carbs. But as I said you do you!
-
No but you said one needed carbs and the OP was asking about bread/rolls/tortillas specifically. You also suggested you got your fiber from toast. So I was elaborating for the sake of the OP so she didn't get the idea she needed the carbs she asked about and to help her understand toast wasn't a good way to get fiber in her diet. You do you! I'm just replying to her!

No one needs bread. Breads are energy sources and contain nothing else we need. If you need the energy and don't get it from other sources, fine. I am four years out, three at goal and they are not a regular part of my diet. Toast has very little fiber even whole wheat toast. Veggies have much more fiber. Fruit has fiber. Brown rice, quinoa, etc have a little bit of fiber. Bread, tortillas, crackers, potatoes, white rice are negligible sources of fiber and have nothing else we NEED. Can they be part of a healthy diet? Maybe, but saying we NEED them is wrong.

Stall at 8 months WTH
jess9395 replied to Danielle Elaine DeMartino's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah I dunno about the whole "up your calories" thing. I mean it's worth an experimental try if you are truly honest with the data. But I didn't get over 600 calories per day till maybe a year out and reached goal at that level. And I ran about 10-15 miles per week and did 4-6 hours of yoga class. If starvation mode was true for everyone then starving people wouldn't keep losing weight (spoiler alert, they do). There is no one size fits all rule, so like I said, it's worth an experiment, but I think you can definitely keep losing weight at 600 calories. My advice is keep sticking with the program your doctor gave you (you trusted the doc enough to let them cut you open so trust them) and you will eventually break the stall. Just keep on keeping on. -
Stall at 8 months WTH
jess9395 replied to Danielle Elaine DeMartino's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Those numbers don't add up. So 130g x 4 calories per gram is 520 calories, leaving 80 calories worth of fat so you don't have more than 10g of fat per day? (Fat has 9 calories per gram). Please clarify.
