  1. Here's a written article that covers some of the same stuff-- http://phenomena.nationalgeographic.com/2014/03/26/the-humble-heroes-of-weight-loss-surgery-stomach-acids-and-gut-microbes/ Google Dr Randy Seeley and read the research articles.

    NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!

While I like Dr Now, the science doesn't support that. He's part of that old school guard that lays down rules and some scare tactics rather than sharing the research and what might be best choices. That said, I'm four years out and accidentally had carbonation last night (my gin and water was switched with hubbys gin and tonic) and OUCH. Still hurts.
  3. Except that studies are showing there is more at work with sleeve surgery than just restricting portions. There is a hormone aspect, a gut bacteria aspect and a lot more we don't fully understand yet. This podcast is a great jumping off point for learning about this research-- https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/weight-loss-surgery-podcast-bariatric-lap-band-rygb/id662443588?mt=2&i=1000373855300 While I completely concur that psychological counseling should be a part of this person's path, I think it's beyond us to judge if the sleeve is indicated or not. I had binge eating disrorder. I don't know the posters situation but true BED is quite different than an addiction. And while counseling is definitely part of recovery, the sleeve played a big part in mine too. I'm four years out and consider myself recovered in a way that counseling alone without the sleeve wouldn't have done.

    Can I eat this?

You're on purée and soft food. Is it a purée or a soft food? What does your plan say?

Cut Calories and Excercise and no weight loss

Weird! Salad fills me up super fast even now at four years out! Even when it's just the leaves, any kind!

    PAINFUL ORGASM..still in pain

I had no restrictions on sexual activity and engaged at maybe 10 days, so it's not contraindicated. Don't worry about that part of it. And you don't need to say what kind of sexual activity you engaged in! Just tell them an orgasm caused a cramp/spasm/pull. My guess is it's just that, a muscle cramp/tear/pull... which can be totally painful and hang around for weeks. But it's not likely related to surgery.
  7. Mine are what they call dual plane. The top half is under the muscle. I have the standard issue silicone. My doc said I didn't have enough breast tissue to hide the saline bags and you would see ripples. Just to clarify they CAN pop but it takes a LOT of force like a car accident or prolonged CPR by a heavy hand. So it won't happen casually. They are as perky as they should be for a 48 year old... I didn't want them so high and perky as to look fake. They are full and natural looking. And high yup. If you send me a PM I can send you a link to pix on my surgeons website where he has examples... my pix are up there and you can see.

    Now I'm mad

Everyone is different. Introversions method worked for her. I didn't need to increase my calories and I have the same maintenance calories she does. So it's not necessarily a causation (low losing calories = gain if you eat above 1200) each of our genetic makeup is different so our paths will be different. But yes, definitely try a calorie increase if you are still very low. It may indeed shake your body into a loss. Or try cycling... days of high and days of low. Try intermittent fasting. Try boosting your activity level. Experiment! Different things work for different people!
  10. Actually the research shows coffee isn't the diuretic people think and only causes a very small increase in urine output if drunk in large amounts (3-4 cups of coffee) after a period of deprivation. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/19774754/ http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/mobileart.asp?articlekey=82141#is_caffeine_a_diuretic

    Finding Happiness

This is a really good point since binge eating is defined by loss of control not by how much you eat. A binge for someone post WLS wouldn't be as much food but would still be a loss of control.

    Finding Happiness

Yeah people have said it better than I can, but in order for the surgery to work long term you need to do the mental work of breaking the dysfunctional pattern. Surgery alone won't do it. They operate on our stomach not our brain. I was a binge eater and the surgery helped, but it was a tool for the mental work to take hold.
  13. December 2013 here as well! Maintaining well a 130lb loss

    Hungry or in pain??

Acid can mimic hunger "pains" and cause a gnawing empty sensation. Are you on an acid medication?
  15. All my life I've been a pro at losing weight. I've lost 50-100 lbs time and time again. For me, my sleeve wasn't weight LOSS surgery, it was weight MAINTENANCE surgery. But your story is your story not mine. Just something to think about. That said, doesn't Metformin often cause weight loss?
  16. I'm glad you know what size band you are, so few women do! Lemme tell you... I was horrified by the idea of implants. I wore a 44G at my largest and never would have dreamed I could possibly need implants. Well at a 32 "Long" as I used to call them before surgery... I rolled em up into a 32DDD... my surgeon told me if he just did a lift/removed the excess skin I wouldn't fill a B cup. I got implants. Small ones, 300cc, and they look just right and in proportion to my body. Strangely they are still a 32DDD. Didn't have to buy new bras which was nice. I thought I would be totally weirded out, but I wasn't. I don't know they are there... and after DH got over his fear of popping them (my surgeon assures him he can't) he doesn't remember they are there either. Very natural.

    Protein intake question

I couldn't get all my protein from food for more than a year. I'm four years out and still do a protein bar or shake 2-3 days a week to meet my goal.
  18. I'm with Diana. My doc said as long as I could tolerate it I could drink it. I didn't start in the hospital but I started maybe 2-3 weeks post op.
  19. My daughter lives in Orange and gets her medical care through UC Irvine health centers and we've been thrilled with them (she's medically complex): http://www.ucirvinehealth.org/medical-services/bariatric-surgery/surgery-options
  20. Make sure you're wearing the right size band, most people don't. Try this site for measuring help-- https://www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits/wiki/beginners_guide/
  21. Running didn't increase my appetite until I was over a year and a half out and marathon training. When I get over 20 miles per week or 10 miles in a go then it increases. It didn't I Couch to 5k

    Favorite exercise

I tried several and my favorite was the one called "Get Running"
  23. I've been taking gabapentin for neuropathy for about four months now and I haven't gained any weight. It does seem the lap band has more trouble long term than initially thought, but it can work for some. I'm thrilled with my sleeve though and no long term maintenance required!

    Food Cravings

Cravings for a particular food are mental. Hunger will be satisfied by anything including your protein shakes. Are you on a protein pump inhibitor for acid? It can mimic hunger causing gnawing empty sensations
  25. jess9395

    Favorite exercise

I started couch to 5k at about six weeks post op. Ran a 5k six months out and half marathon 10 months out. Have since run a couple marathons. I also do yoga.
