Food Before and After Photos

The amount I eat changes from day to do is my problem. Some days I can’t finish a 5oz yogurt. Other days I can eat a whole chicken breast. Why? Who knows. Could be related to my activity level... maybe when I run more? I should try and notice a pattern but I’m not much motivated too when I have a fifteen year old to eat my leftovers -

Protein mug cake. One scoop protein powder (works best with one that has egg protein or caesin as part of it not just whey isolate), 1tsp milk and 1/4 tsp baking powder in the microwave for 1 min. Ate it in about 20 mins. -

Is there a reason you don’t use regular milk? That smoothie wouldn’t work for my plan bc of the carb to protein ratio since almond milk is skimpy on protein. Regular milk would make it work for me. Just curious. -
10000000% worth it. Five years out from the sleeve. Maintaining well. I had a relatively easy recovery. There are some things I still can’t eat as they don’t sit well, but they are mostly things I don’t need to be eating anyway like rice, bread and carbonation. Do realize that most people don’t get “thin.” Most people lose about 60-75% of their excess weight. So if your ideal weight is 135-165 and you weigh 265 you have 100lbs of excess weight. If you lose 60% of that that’s 60lbs so the odds are you would end up weighing 205. You can definitely work and lose more, but statistically that’s what happens.

Thank you! Well... just doing what I know works. For me that’s avoiding simple/refined carbs, learning the difference between eating because I’m hungry and eating because I’m angry/hurt/frustrated, and staying active. I run 20+ miles a week and do a lot of yoga. I’m lucky in that my restriction is still great and I never really got the hungries back like I did before once I got my acid under control post op. -
Newly sleeved yet massive stomach pains when swallowing

I think that’s pretty common... I mean they cut everything open and stitched it back together... it’s a long swollen wound. It gets better little by little, promise! -
When we break down muscle to build it up (what happens with weight training) the body retains water as part of the process so that can definitely come into play. But we also get hungrier when we are training (runners call it the “rungries”). So if you don’t track your food you might want to try doing that to just make sure you aren’t eating more and that that isn’t part of it.

I still have trouble gauging how much to serve myself even at five years out. Especially when I am eating things I don’t often eat (in this case quinoa and corn). They filled me up more quickly. This is ancient grains and sautéed onions (about half and half) with leftover tri tip that I braised in red wine and wosterchire on top and then topped with a little bit of corn and green onions and cilantro. My fifteen year old ate what I didn’t. I added some power greens slaw on the side optimistically but didn’t eat any so cropped them out of the pic. I will eat the slaw tomorrow for lunch. -

Probably bc eggs don’t agree with a lot of us for a while. It took me several months before I could tolerate them even though they were allowed during mushy food stage at 3 weeks. -

Container dannon light and fit Greek yogurt with 1 tsp slivered almonds, 1 tsp unsweetened coconut and 1/2 tsp cocoa nibs. Sometimes I get full 2/3 of the way through. This morning I ate the whole thing. -
Re insurance—read your policy. Many exclude it completely, some have specific requirements like pannus/apron must hang below pubic bone or must remove 500g volume of breast. 1. How much is whole body? Arms? Thighs? Breasts? Tummy tuck or circumferential lift? Probably not. I had more done at one time than most and I got arms breasts and tummy tuck. Most surgeons I spoke to said only two areas at a time. A few Mexican surgeons will do even more at a time but it’s limited by time spent under anesthesia safely. If they will do twilight sedation or have two surgeons working together that can help. But also think recovery. Can you get around and function while healing? 2. Yes. Much harder. Especially if you have any lipo for contouring or any muscle repair or tightening. 3. I consulted In Mexico but decided against it. For me the worry about handing things if anything went wrong scared me. Many gave great experiences and pay a fraction of the cost. 4. Interview a number of surgeons. Look at lots of pictures of their work. You will know when you find the right one. 5. Depends on what you mean by full body. For the three areas I did the California docs I interviewed were all in the 22-26k range. Mexico was closer to 8-12k. 7. I recovered very quickly compared to most because I had absolutely NO lipo which is often the worst. I had muscle repair/tightening in my adominals though. I was functioning well by about two weeks out. 7. Amazing. Life changing. My plastics were 3.5 years ago.

Oh I think luck is definitely a factor in success... I think one day we will have a lot more science and be able to figure out what works for whom and tailor diet and surgery type (or no surgery) based on scientific principle, but for now luck is a huge part of it. I consider myself VERY lucky to have responded so well to my surgery and diet. BUT I feel like luck would be evenly represented among posters here and lurkers here and the general population. Cuz, ya know, it’s luck! Trying to figure out population characteristics and chance events are usually controlled for across different populations and selection groups. Yeah I was a statistics minor.

It’s interesting to think about! As a whole are we more successful because we seek out more information, are more committed and more knowledgeable? Are we less successful because as a whole because we spend more time on our computers and smart phones than getting exercise? Are people who post more or less successful than people who lurk and just read (because most internet boards are more lurkers than posters). More successful because we have a “support group?” Less successful because it’s online and because it doesn’t have the safeties in place an in person one has (I mean let’s be real, people don’t “say” these kinds of things in person). I’m just pulling random possibilities out of the air because who knows.

Vegetables... well I avoid corn, peas and all forms of potatoes, white or otherwise. Cruciferous ones don’t agree with me unless they are way mushy and then ick l. Same with carrots. So I do a lot of leaves of all varieties... lettuces, spinach, kale, cabbage and arugula. I also do bell peppers, snap peas and cucumbers (Armenian are my favorite). I can do a small amount of shredded carrots in my salad or in Cole slaw (huge favorite in our house and I make several varieties of homemade dressing). Lots of onions, mushrooms, celery, squash, cilantro, avocados (I do live in California after all). And whatever I see at farmers market—boy choy this week!

She did not call you ignorant, she said ignorance was expressed. And you were rude. You specifically called HER names and escalated things. The board IS monitored and moderated and here are the guidelines— https://www.bariatricpal.com/guidelines When I’m on the real computer tomorrow I will see if I can figure out how to report this thread. You can’t claim something IS and then say it’s just your opinion.

I just don’t think there’s any place for name calling. If you truly think someone is a bully (and you seem to be good at searching people’s history so you can easily find out what I think about slinging the name “bully” around—in brief I think it’s an over used ad hominem attack) then perhaps you shouldn’t call people names. It’s also against the rules to personally attack like that. I can disagree with someone and not resort to that. Even if I think they were inappropriate, it’s no reason to stoop to that level. You lose your own credibility. I mean here you are, supposedly on my side of this argument, and I wish you weren’t.
-
Yes exactly. I rarely count my macros anymore. I do eat a LOT of dairy and animal protein though. It’s probably the bulk of my diet.
-
Dangit not the post I quoted but others up there and my tag didn’t work either

Does anyone know how to report this? I know this type of name calling is against the TOS even in the rants and raves. @alexbreacher ?

Oh and I don’t miss the carbs and am careful to get enough fiber, so I just don’t see why I would add them back in.
-
Different people have different plans and even for people with the same plan different things work. I can’t eat a lot of carbs or I want more carbs. Plain and simple. My surgeon is OK with people adding carbs back in at goal IF they can maintain with them. I gain if I open the door too wide. You will have to figure what works for you. For me it’s no bread, pasta (except for chickpea or edamame pasta once a month or so) no potatoes (white or otherwise) no rice (white or otherwise). If I’m running 6+ miles I have have some fruit or oatmeal. I can sprinkle a tablespoon of cocoa nibs or unsweetened coconut on my yogurt or some berries. But yeah, low carb. I have beans or ancient grains maybe once or twice a week. A cookie or few bites of cake or a couple of French fries a couple times a month. I’m not that rigid but they aren’t a regular part of my diet. I didn’t “add them back in” they are a very once in a while treat.
-
Yes when you read carefully I know that’s what you SAID. But people don’t always read carefully and skim so I wanted to clarify. I wanted to put it out there that low carb does work for many. Some it doesn’t. I think there are people who regain from many camps and I honestly don’t think there are more of them from the low carb camp. I don’t have statistics but I would love to see any you know of. Posters on this board don’t present a balanced view of the population.
