Jealous of others on here

You believe this stubbornness will lead to success and you may be right, but my guess is it will not. -
Jealous of others on here
jess9395 replied to Mersh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Testing boundaries probably not wise at six weeks out. I'm not sure if you're normal or abnormal, because I would guess MOST people don't try the things you've tried. You are only reading what some people on an internet board who pushed the limits too early chose to share. I have no clue whether I could tolerate candy or a cupcake at six weeks because I didn't eat even a bite till 9 months out. -
Gym or no gym, that is the question

Yes and honestly my OB said the same thing to me when I was pregnant with my daughter in 1998! Basically when I was blaming my excess weight gain on not being able to exercise (had some spotting early on) he didn't pull any punches and laid it on the line for me. -

I love when people on here are open to new info! So many just want commiseration or validation. It will really add to your success, this kind of attitude. I know it did for me. -

Wait... you're six weeks out? How do you know you can handle all the carbs and sugar? Why the heck did you try them? -

Thank you! As we say in our family GENTLE hugs! I love her doctor and that paradigm of the 10%'s has helped her a lot. -

Thank you! My heart goes out to you too, you zebras are warriors! She was super happy to discover them! It's weird because most sticky things--glue, stickers, band aids, medical tape--cause big welts on her skin but luckily those and KT tape (which she uses frequently for her joints as well, another 5-10% I forgot!) don't. Dunno why! -
Anyone around 5'3-5'5 and weight 250-270 how much weight did you lose in your first 6 months

Because it's not new and exciting and sexy. You aren't getting complements and new clothes and firsts. Because you STILL have to keep watching what you eat and drink and your activity level. Forever. And you can eat more and it's oh so easy to slide back into bad habits and eat sliders that go down easily. -

THE BIG NO NO's of what never to eat or drink after the sleeve.

It doesn't. Science has disproven that myth-- http://www.coffeeandhealth.org/research/latest-research-2/ -

Straws or carbonation? Science has shown neither does. Doctors theorized they might in the early days of the surgery, but science has disproven that. -

Ah now THIS makes sense. The way I've heard this is-- You can't outrun your fork. Or Weight is lost in the kitchen not the gym. And I completely concur -

I think by "gym" we are really discussing exercise. I'm not a gym member. Lots of ways to exercise that don't cost money. Walking is great! -
I do sashimi frequently and did from early out. Rice is not on my plan and causes pain in my stomach so I don't do actual sushi.

I would say maintenance is way harder than the weight loss phase -

And I think plant based works for many people but it isn't the answer for everyone. I think there are many answers. -

But they might be like me in some ways but not others--like physically like me but not mentally. And I think too hard is different for everyone. -
Oh I can't get started on the carby snacks if I won't stop! I can't even open that door.

BTW this is all food for thought. I'm not arguing with your theories. It's just you want to put me outside of them as someone with "good sense" or something. But we are all different. Why discourage exercise when someone else might be just like me? -

Even your statements "eat well" (plant based? Low carb? Moderate carb? Low fat? Whole food? Gluten free? Non GMO?) who defines that? There's a whole protein a holic thread on here. And don't push "too hard" how do you quantify that? Walking a mile a day? 10,000 steps? Yoga? Crossfit? Where does too hard start? -

Well, I did say 120's so you probably thought 120. I couldn't remember where knew it was upper 120's so just looked it up to clarify. So now I'm more specific. Anyhow... as for malnourishment and taking calcium from bones and protein from muscles... well simply didn't happen in my case. My surgeon does a dexa scan pre op and then at a year which happened to coincide with me reaching my lowest. My bone density was the same (I was good about dairy and calcium pills, magnesium and vitamin D). My lean body mass increased (exercise, running, yoga combined with meeting my protein goals). Here's the thing... There's a great chance science will prove your theory correct or partially correct someday FOR SOME PEOPLE. It wasn't true FOR ME. Already we are discovering genes that show who can eat saturated fat and not gain weight who is more sensitive. Genetics seem at play in "type 2" (are you aware they have identified like nine types?) diabetes and insulin resistance. People WILL NOT respond the same way to the same diets. One day we will laugh at how simplistic our view of calories in/calories out was. This is why I say try and see what makes YOUR blood work (A1C, triglycerides, cholesterol) and energy level and hunger level and body fat percentage and such GET BETTER. Do a real experiment not just theorizing and listening to everyone else make educated guesses. -

I gave up coffee while I was pregnant with each kid and I tell them to this day that's how much I love them (course science has since said 1-2 cups per day is Ok during pregnancy, drat!) I cut back before surgery so I wouldn't have withdrawal and they stayed coffee free for three months while my stomach healed (that's how much I love myself). Now I don't add sugar or a million calories worth of stuff to make a coffee "drink" I just drink coffee. And now that my weight has settled I do cappucino or a flat white a couple of times a week (not sweetened). If frappucinos or macchiatos or lattes are your thing it falls into the don't drink your calories category. But coffee? Science sez not so bad! -

Are you saying that if I kept trying to lose those 7 lbs I would throw in the towel and gain 50? All because I started exercising at 4 weeks out? I'm not following that logic. -
Gym or no gym, that is the question
jess9395 replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I said 120's not 120. I lost to 128. And regained 7lbs. And I gained them over eight months from about month 18-24. I am not sure what damage you are talking about. I was for and healthy and still am and still eat low carb and artificial sugar and protein shakes. And run 20-30 miles per week and 5-6 hours of yoga per week. I'm not getting your point? -

Yeah so all those things I read people post about having to eat carb to fuel exercise or going into starvation mode from too few calories sorta makes me roll my eyes. I mean I'm sure it's true for some, but by no means is it an absolute. Some people use it as an excuse. My body burned my stored fat for fuel and I had plenty.
