  1. Check with your plan but mine allowed all liquids to count towards my daily goal including protein shakes and even popsicles

    Food Before and After Photos

chicken salad. Skinless grilled chicken breast, one small one (I often cheat and buy the precooked Trader Joe’s ones), 1 T mayo, 1/2 cup red grapes, about 2 T green onions and 1 T slivered almonds). Before and after and I will eat the rest later. If you can’t tell, I still have a lot of restriction still at 5 years out if I’m not eating sliders or drinking my calories (hi Starbucks, waving at you! And I don’t even do anything with sugar!) I have to have 5-6 small meals in a day to get in everything I need. And that’s also why I still rely on Protein Shakes a lot. I probably could meet my goals without them, but I just don’t want to put in that much effort every single day. So I have a scoop of Protein powder more days than not—in a shake, in my oatmeal, in a mug cake, made into a pancake....
  3. This isn’t the black and white issue that people are making it out to be. Honesty we can’t know enough about your situation. But here are some more thoughts, take what works for you. How long have you been together? Is this a new thing for him to notice boobs? Did you used to have boobs and he misses them after you lost weight? What’s the rest of your relationship like? I used to have ENORMOUS boobs. Like 44G or something at my highest, I never really wore the right size. Even when I was younger and just “chubby” not morbidly obese I was like 40DDD at least. My hubby has always been a boob man. Flash forward to post WLS I wear a size 4 and was rolling up my deflated tube sock boobs into my bra. Left to my own devices when I got my plastics I would have embraced a B/C cup. But after 22+ years of marriage i knew his preference matters to me. So I got implants with my lift. Would I have done it if I hadn’t already been getting surgery? Honestly probably yes. Would I have gotten them if I hated the idea just for him, no. But like all things in a long term relationship, it’s about give and take, compromise, love, etc. Thats one that mattered to him more than it did to me, so it was my gift to him. So yeah, I won’t keep cheezits in the House for him, but I will get implants. Ha! That is marriage for you.

    gastric bypass reversal

Wow I just went back and read your whole story. I hope the reversal gives you your life back! Keep us posted.

    Gastrojejunostomy

Let me rephrase that. With a sleeve the first part of the bypass is done, dissection and what not . A patient getting a bypass after a sleeve will typically be easier than a patient just getting a bypass. Still not accurate. Bypass creates a pouch, as was said above. Sleeve does not. The statement that her doctor is just using a fancy word is inaccurate and an unfair characterization.  It’s an actual procedure.  To the OP—there are a lot of conversion patients in here. If you do a search you will see lots of discussion that might help you!

    Gastrojejunostomy

This is incorrect. The sleeve is the first half of the Duodenal Switch procedure not the bypass. They are quite different.

    Catheter duting surgery

I had none for my WLS. I have to imagine I had one for my plastics bc I was under for 8 hours, but I wasn’t aware of it so they must have done it while I was out and removed it while I was out too.

    The regain posts

I think even 1000 is low. They should be able to maintain at a higher level than that depending on their age and weight and musculature.
  9. jess9395

    The regain posts

I think that’s a delusion. I think if they actually tracked they would realize that.

    The regain posts

I’m gonna agree with this. Honestly I would LOVE to be able to say it’s grit and “working my tool” that’s allowed me to maintain a 135+ lb for five years... but I think it WORKED for me. Yeah I could eat junk but i honestly don’t want to the way I did before. Yeah, I work at it, but not the way I did before, only to regain. One day we will know which surgeries (or other therapies) work for whom and why... but the sleeve WORKED for me. I am, dare I say it... normal in a way I never was. I’m like any woman pushing 50 who needs to be careful, but not like before.

Strawberries yes! Sliced and slightly smashed and tossed and keep in a container in the fridge with the balsamic and swerve!

unprotected sex a week before surgery??

I wasn't trying to suggest that an STP is a man-only thing. I think I was venting because it seems that women are often singled out arbitrarily. Perhaps my comment was a bit misplaced and silly, but it was coming from a place of frustration. I've had far too many experiences in which I felt that I was treated differently and taken less seriously because of my gender. I meant no harm. My own personal demons. Totally get it.... but I do believe this is one legit area of being treated differently.

    How important is Exercise?

Just an interesting factoid...I know it’s more than calories in and calories out... I also know muscle raises your RMR and burns more calories at rest. But still.... running (or walking) burns about 100 calories per mile (running just finishes the mile faster). Think how long it takes you to eat 100 calories versus walk or run a mile. So yeah way more complex than just that, but that’s why I firmly rest in the can’t outrun your fork camp... even after surgery.

    How important is Exercise?

Exercise and fitness is a huge part of my life now and I do believe it helps me maintain. But overall, I still believe it was what I ate that was the largest part of my weight loss. I subscribe to the "Weight is lost in the kitchen, not the gym" philosophy and the one the running community uses "you can't outrun your fork." Exercise is for health and fitness, diet (in the "what you eat" not the "what you don't eat" definition) is for weight loss. My personal opinion and experience. That said, exercise is part of my surgeon's plan. In addition to all the other pre op tests and such, one must do 1-3 visits at the physical therapy/fitness training department at the hospital. They do a baseline fitness assessment and then set goals for you post op. I can't really speak to what the follow up with that department is like, I think it can exist as part of the surgeon's plan, but I started couch to 5k and yoga soon after surgery and discussed that at my post op visits. The people at the fitness center knew that was my post op plan so they couched their advice with "this is probably too basic for you..." and "I know you have your own plans, but..." which was honestly odd to me because I had never run or done yoga so how did I know that is what I was gonna do and more importantly how did THEY know or trust that I would? So I do feel like there is a weird disconnect happening with the program. Would you trust an almost 300lb person who has never run or done yoga to follow through on that? I wouldn't! Anyhow, a brief discussion is part of every follow up with my surgeon. I don't know how the follow up would go if I hadn't been doing anything, but since I was telling him about my running and yoga the discussions were brief. By my six month follow up I was telling him about the half marathon I had run and the 3-4 hours of yoga classes per week, He was great with that. So I don't know if fitness is a really integral part of his program and he just didn't need to stress it with me, or if it's just a small part of the conversation with everyone. As for %.... I honestly think that like with most of this, there is no one answer. Different people with different genetics will have different needs and different results. I think as science advances what we will learn is how to determine the best plan for individuals. My sister builds muscle in seconds and takes forever to lose it. She also works in a field where functional fitness is part of her job (a former poster on here used to work with horses and it was the same thing...no need for a formal exercise plan). I take FOREVER to build muscle and if I don't use it I will lose it overnight.

    Best Sugar Substitues

Mostly splenda/sucralose for the best all around. Works when heated and even for cooking which many don't. It is taste neutral. Stevia has it's own flavor to it so you either like that or you don't. I like it in some things, but can't put it in my coffee ugh. I really like Swerve because it has a granulated version that cooks like sugar--so if you want to carmelize something you can--nuts, fruit, etc. It's sugar alcohol (Erythritol) with some oligosaccharides.

unprotected sex a week before surgery??

Oh well I didn’t even include my wrist surgeries—three of them, two surgery centers, no test. But like I said my plastic surgeon ran one both times. So I think different places just had different policies. Because as you can see lots of older women had to have them too. I was just reacting to your post that said definitely. I think very few things in this life are definite.

unprotected sex a week before surgery??

I get that you are trying to point out what you see as a double standard... but having WLS with an STD doesn’t put lives at risk in the same way. It just isn’t similar. No one is gonna sue them later for it either. And they don’t test women for STD’s pre op and we get them too.

unprotected sex a week before surgery??

My hospital didn’t. Neither did my docs office. My plastic surgeon did. My endocrine surgeon didn’t. Varies by hospital/surgery center. I mean I get it that some of them want to cover themselves and don’t want to take your word for it... but some do take your word for it. It’s not consistent. In case you’re wondering I was over 40 post menopause and had my tubes tied. So 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Food Before and After Photos

5 oz plain Fage Greek yogurt with macerated strawberries in balsamic and swerve fake sugar with almond slivers. I will snack on this all afternoon till I finish.

    Food Before and After Photos

We went out to breakfast for my mother in law’s birthday this am. I did what I often do at restaurants and just got an extra plate and people shared with me. Half a scrambled egg... quarter of a slice whole wheat toast, a bite of hash browns and smoked tri tip (the piece was maybe 2-3oz... this place has incredible smoked tri tip). You can see I are maybe a third of the carb servings and 2/3 of the protein. This time my 15 year old didn’t finish it though because he had a HUGE breakfast burrito that he couldn’t even finish.

    Food Before and After Photos

90% of the time, yeah. Apples and cheese, celery and Peanut Butter, berries or peaches on yogurt, melon with nuts and cottage cheese or ricotta. When I don’t it’s because I’m running (literally, like 6+ miles, I don’t do it with shorter runs) and it’s quick fuel.   During the loss phase I didn’t eat fruit at all unless it was when I was running.  I mean veggies if they are low carb ones (ie not potatoes, corn or peas) then it’s not as big a deal, because they have a low glycemic index and Fiber (I do net carbs not total carbs so subtract the fiber) so like at a party I will sometimes snack on raw veggies.

    Food Before and After Photos

In general now that I’m in maintenance the protein in any meal has to be higher than the carbs. And in general I try not to drink my carbs. During the loss phase it was more like a 4:1 or even 5:1 ratio protein to carbs. I ate very little carbs and they were mostly from dairy and green veggies. My surgeon has a low carb plan.

That looks great! I just bought the matcha powder. I might try adding it to vanilla protein powder!
  24. You might be surprised to find a lift is all you need... they excise extra skin in a keyhole shape and that will reduce your cup size quite a bit all by itself. I had a lift with implants and would up the exact same bra size bc the implants made up for the removed skin (that I’d been “rolling up” and tucking into my bra!

    Food Before and After Photos

Got it. Oh I know there aren’t many carbs in the almond milk, it’s just the ratio.... if I do a smoothie it has to be more than half protein otherwise I just can’t justify it for myself, the carbs exceeding the protein makes me hungrier! I could put a scoop of protein powder in or do dairy milk and then it would work for me. I still have trouble getting protein in from just food some days. But drinks in general I can’t do unless they are more protein based.
