What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?

Some plans allow it others don't. The idea behind plans that don't allow it is can "out eat" a sleeve by eating small amounts all day long, it's called grazing. My plan was fine with it and small protein mini meals were the only way I could eat enough until I was more than a year out. I still mostly eat that way. As long as you are mindful of what you eat and aren't relying only on restriction to limit you, you're probably fine.

What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?

Just have a coffee though. Not one of those milkshakes they call "frappes". Seriously, the lattes and moccachinos and the like are killers! Coffee with some cream, a dry cappuccino, even a flat white (though I didn't do those till at goal).
  3. My first Christmas I was only four weeks out and stuck to my plan like glue. My second I was at goal and testing my boundaries and....GAINED 12 pounds! I got back on the plan and dropped them but can definitely happen.... sliders and all!

    Pre Op Diet cheating

My point is if you CANT follow the pre op diet (I mean choosing to diverge from it or "cheat" is not what I'm talking about, that's a grown up choice) if you CANT then you really should have a discussion with your doctor about the medical issues in play and what you need to do to ensure your health post-op.

    Pre Op Diet cheating

If you literally have hypoglycemia and it's causing you to shake to the extent you must deviate from his plan, you need to speak with your surgeon. They need to know so they can help you avoid similar issues post op. It's not about cheating or the difference in pre op diets.
  6. They also have phenergan suppositories.
  7. I'm 5'6" woman and I exercise a lot... I eat 2400-2800 most days, so yeah!

    Daith piercing

Ask your surgeon. I did and mine said it was fine they didn't need to see the nail bed and the pulse ox worked fine with polish. But ask YOUR surgeon (to the poster who asked!)

    Daith piercing

Google is your friend. It's the center part of your ear. The little triangle piece that pokes out opposite the C the ear forms I believe the diath is lower and Tragus is upper but might have it mixed up

    Does it taste good?

Do some research on Genepro. It's quite controversial.

    Starving

In the first few months acid can mimic hunger. If you aren't on a acid blocker ask about one (omeprazole, protonix) if you are ask about an increased dose. The gnawing feeling an empty stomach full of acid produces feels a lot like hunger.
  12. If you are taller than she is your sleeve IS bigger because it only reduces the width not length.

    8 days out and HUNGRY

Are you on acid reducing meds like a proton pump inhibitor (omeaprazole or protonix?) Early out acid can mimic feelings of hunger... like gnawing empty feelings. If you are on one you might need an increased dose. And when I say early out I mean the first few months. I needed double my initial dose of protonix for 3 months.

    The dreaded protein

Must be something other than the lactose then! I'm sorry. Either that or the shakes you used have concentrate instead of isolate.

    The dreaded protein

Whey protein is lactose free. They are both from milk, but they isolate the whey protein from the lactose sugar so you aren't getting any lactose in most protein shakes. Ditto caesin.

    Plastic Surgery?

Been thinking about you, how's it going?
  17. Four years out. Keep trying different protein shakes until you find what works for you, because you will! I had to try like 15-20 varieties. Powders, pre mix, waters, etc. Nashua Nutrition online sells a sucker serve sample of anything they carry for $2. You trusted your surgical team to cut you open, trust their nutrition plan! It may be totally different than anyone else's but it's YOUR plan! Follow it for at least the first year, make the most of that window, then you can experiment after you've changed your whole relationship with food and broken all the habits. Know that early put acid can mimic hunger pangs. If you feel a gnawing sensation in your stomach that feels like hunger, try a proton pump inhibitor or another acid reducer. The three week stall is real. And it ends.

    Exercising post op

Thank you! Do I ever feel weak after a run? Rarely. If I'm pushing my speed or running a particularly challenging trail, yeah I can feel weak, but not often. Ditto with feeling increased hunger... during a really high mileage week, like when I'm marathon training, then I do find a small increase, but nothing out of proportion to the increased burn. I also do yoga--the challenging strength building type, not the meditative stretching type, though I do that too--and I usually do a protein shake after that. It's an intentional choice, I know it's beneficial. It's not because I feel weak or hungry. I guess it's just part of the rhythm I've developed. At this point at goal I eat anywhere from 1800-2800 calories a day. Depends on what's going on. I don't track every day, I spot check a couple of times a month.

Learning to run after bariatric surgery.

"Fast" is also relative. For me a 30 min 5k doesn't feel fast. I'm used to the way runners phrase their speed so the mph doesn't mean much to me. I easily run a 10 min mile forever, but I can run a 8 min mile! Some others like to run 12 or 13 minute mile. It's all relative!

Learning to run after bariatric surgery.

I think that plan is fine, my post was more aimed at the idea that couch to 5k has you working for a 30 min 5k by the end. The plan the from fat to finish line's coach rik has worked out (he's a running coach) is actually aimed specifically at overweight runners and ramps up quite slowly, it's a super "run your first mile" plan.

The week three stall is infamous! Most of us had it!

    The dreaded protein

Try different brands and types (powdered, ready made, clear) until you find one that doesn't make you gag. I hate premiere it made me gag but many love it... actually all premade ones do it to me. I need powders, but those make others gag! I tried about 15-20 before I figured it out. I like quest and syntrax matrix. A few of the syntrax nectar flavors too, and chike. Nashua Nutrition online will sell single serve trials of any powder they sell for $2.

And yes on from fat to finish line!!! They have a Facebook group too! I suggest anyone who wants to try running join it and perhaps try coach rik's run your first mile program it's slower than couch to 5k. Great group of folks I've run Ragnar's with several of them!

I say "running" is any speed that's not walking and that slow is totally fine! And do couch to 5k at any speed you like, I couldn't do a 5k in the 30 mins at the end of the program! I just kept building from the base it gave me which was running for 30 mins without stopping. I didn't break 30 mins for a 5k for a full six months.

    Exercising post op

Exercise, don't exercise....weight is lost through diet, heart health through exercise. Don't push it till you're ready. With that out of the way, I don't understand the oft repeated not getting in enough calories to exercise. I ran a half marathon while eating 600-800 calories a day. And I wasn't a runner ever pre op. Started couch to 5k at a month or so out. My body... most of our bodies... have plenty of stored calories, we have them stored up. That's what extra weight is. Our bodies will adapt to burning those when we exercise fasted or on low calories. Extended high intensity exercise, like running 45 minutes or more, then we deplete our glycogen stores and may need a boost...but in general, that's what our caloric stores are for, in my humble experience.
