    Liquids after sleeve

You're also feeling the swelling going down. It will continue to do so and you will feel your capacity expand for about six months or so. Totally normal.
  2. Ok so someone not lactose intolerant could get by without blending things. I will say that I learned how to do things just fine with protein shakes. I would have lost a lot if muscle mass without them because I couldn't eat enough protein till well over a year out. So you CAN do it. At least some of us can. It's just not the way your doctor wants it done which is great. There are few absolutes in this.
  3. You could stick with protein shakes, couldn't you? No cottage cheese? Eggs? Greek yogurt?
  4. No I do understand and there are no studies that show that, say, clear liquids are best until this point of healing or purées are best until this amount of swelling goes down. So yeah, same answer! We may know the average stage that healing is at but doctors disagree about what foods are best suited to what stage of healing. No studies to show that.

    Marijuana use

It's up to the individual doctor whether they test or not. All mine tested for was pregnancy, even though I had my tubes tied.
  6. You want to find out EXACTLY? You know no one can answer that. You've gotten some good estimates but it's impossible to predict and what you do (eat, exercise, drink, etc) plays a role too.

    Intermittent Fasting

Yes to clarify, I didn't do IF till I got to goal and my "fast" days on 5:2 are around 500-700 calories. When I was losing I was maybe 600-1000 calories a day so that was fasting every day! I do the 5:2 to combat regain if I get above my bounce range. I do the windows (usually 8/16 but up to 6/18 some days) just as a health thing. I've never been a nighttime eater so that's the easy one for me, putting it off in the morning is tougher for me. I've never got into the bulletproof coffee but I do extend the fast with coffee with heavy cream often!

    Intermittent Fasting

Yes! I do IF on and off. For the poster above it's not long term fasting it's just extending your window from the last night to "break"fast. 5:2 is another style I've used. There are actually scientific studies on it's immune system benefits as well studied in cancer/chemo patients. I did a three day clear liquid fast based on that research.
  9. Try different protein brands, textures, waters... powder, premix, clear... temperatures. Nashua Nutrition will sell a sample of any protein they sell for $2 a serving.
  10. There is an answer! It's because there is no evidence based research.... there are no studies that have been done that show which diet produces the best results... the safest and the most weight loss. There is no PROOF basically. So each doctor bases their diet on their own education and experience. No one KNOWS so each doctor makes their own educated guess. That's why no standard diet because each doctor has a different guess.
  11. I was allowed eggs they just made my stomach hurt!

    Other food options

Refried beans with cheese and hot sauce. Ricotta cheese can be savory with spaghetti sauce or sweet with sugar free pudding mix. Greek yogurt with no added sugar. Icelandic yogurt.
  13. I never blended anything. I did fine with protein shakes, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, refried beans, Greek yogurt, etc. Some people can add eggs to that, I couldn't tolerate them until about six month out. Anyhow it's do able!
  14. Why do you do the almond milk? Regular milk has protein in it, almond milk only has a negligible amount
  15. Allow me to quote myself from another thread.
  16. Most weight is lost in the kitchen not the gym. If you are tired from that level of exercise try walking instead.

    Petrified and indecisive

I drink a glass of wine now and then, or do a shot of hard alcohol in a sugar free or low cal mixer. I like a shot of whiskey in sugar free cider or vodka in low cal cranberry juice. There are "light" margarita mixers. I'm at goal so I do vodka Collins sometimes. If I could do carbonation I'd do gin and soda. Some people use crystal light mixers. If you can tolerate carbonation there are plenty of light beers or heck Jack (or rum) and Diet Coke. Just mix more of the mixer to alcohol than you used to!

    DAMMIT!

Does it have to be surgery related? Today is the third day in a row I've had to catch and release outside live mice that my cat brought INTO the house! Sorta defeats the point of having a cat.
  19. Because there is no empirical research based evidence as to best diet. You can't randomly assign people to different plans and test to see what works best. So every professional makes a judgement call based on their education and experience. You select your surgical team based on their education and experience and trust them to cut you open. So you either need to trust their plan for the same reason or educate yourself and make your own judgement based on your education and experience.

I'm gonna be honest.... It's not the "I've had 6/7 cocktail nights..." that makes you sounds like an alcoholic. It's the PLANNING for them and feeling anxious that you might not be able to have more of them that does. We've all had those nights. But it being so important that you make sure you can keep having them that worries me. Also know that the amount of Alcohil in a jack and coke is way higher than in a glass of wine. Some people get sleepy or flushed or other weird thugs with wine but it's the tannins not the alcohol. Now that said, I will warn you the coke may be an issue. Carbonation is tolerated differently by many people after the surgery. I still get stomach aches from it four years out. Some people do fine though.
  21. What is that recommendation from and what is it based on? Heart health? Risk of dependence? Sugar content/insulin response? Truly curious!

Just a thought... if you're concerned about not being able to consume what others do because it will make you seem "different".... Aren't you different already being obese? Would you rather be different one way or the other? I do agree with the person above who suggested therapy to see where your head is at. It sounds like t would be quite useful to you!

But more than three? You have a good time without it, can't you? If it's the buzz that makes you feel like you've let your hair down you will have that just on less. Drink the drinks more slowly. Or alternate alcohol and another non alcoholic drink if you just enjoy having something fun your hand and sipping. What part of what you said above is volume dependent?

Eat slowly and you won't be the first to finish. Most people eat quite fast. Also you will be surprised... people don't notice. Especially if everyone is talking and having a good time. If they do you say something like "how do you think I lost this weight?" "Wanting to keep the weight off I worked hard to lose it" etc.
