Could Someone 'Splain This To Me?
jess9395 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Also some insurances don't require the 3-6 months of supervised weight loss and visits. I had my four year follow up appointment a few months ago and in the exam room my doc had a chart posted for info with a list of insurance companies and their requirements. About a third of the ones listed (mine included) had none. I had six l weeks between my first looking up info and surgery date. I only had to get all the clearances or might have been quicker. My insurance didn't require much and I have a biggie in California. -
Anxiety meds before weight loss surgery?

I don't know why you couldn't take your anti anxiety medication day of. I've been offered Valium and Xanax before surgeries. -

Thank you for clarifying. I guess I just don't see it as rude or disparaging . I got a lot out of posts you would probably consider rude/disparaging. That's why I just suggest everyone takes what's useful to them and leaves the rest. And uses the block feature if they don't like someone. We all need and appreciate and learn from different styles. I am glad all kinds exist and I seek out what's useful to me and try to give what might be useful to others. -
Eating TOO LITTLE can cause a weight loss stall!
jess9395 replied to Creekimp13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let me clarify... everyone should listen to their team. You hired them because you trust them! But if your team encourages very low calorie, trust them! Because while it's possible that the OP's nutritionist sees that in her practice, there isn't any science that shows that definitively. And many medical professionals see something different in their practice. If you want to try to shake things up and try someone else's advice because your teams advise isn't working for you, by all means do so! But don't take the title of the thread here or even the advice from the OP as fact. It's one persons opinion and not the opinion of the medical professionals you hired. Trust the people you hired or do your own research and experimentation. -

Eating TOO LITTLE can cause a weight loss stall!
jess9395 replied to Creekimp13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would take that with a grain of salt. I mean yeah I guess it's possible in some cases, but I didn't get above 500-600 calories for at least six months. No stalls, no nutritional deficiencies or bone loss. Muscle gain. I met my protein goals starting week 3. I started running week 4. I ran a half marathon month 8. Yoga 4x per week. And now at four years out I eat well over 2000 calories per day to maintain at a size 4. -
Overate ate at 7 days!
jess9395 replied to YummyMummy303's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please clarify... you think vets have no place sharing with newbies? You can't mean that. I learned so much from vets as a newbie! I needed that and wouldn't have been nearly as successful without it. And yes, from people just like her. -

jess9395 replied to YummyMummy303's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Off topic isn't against the rules and rude/personal is a matter of opinion. I don't see either. If she had broken rules on this thread Alex would have weighed in. I needed her form of reality check as a newbie, so it's not just the veterans. I continue to appreciate it. All types are needed on this board. The love and light "it will all be OK" irritates me, but I just ignore it. To block someone click on their name. Once on that screen click on the three dots top right. Then you can select ignore/block. -
Question about Recovery House for Dr. Cardenas/Beauty Enhance
jess9395 replied to forgetmenot's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
If it's simply the $100, won't you be saving at least that much having it done in Mexico vs the US? My surgeon didn't have a list that was copied out of anywhere, it was on his own letterhead and in fonts that matched the rest of their paperwork. I also didn't get a list of pre op tests until I chose a surgeon, so I don't know what tests the other six I met with or corresponded with (in the case of the Mexico surgeons) ordered. -

Just block her. Then you will never have to see her. She hasn't broken any rules on this thread. -
No loss since surgery 6 weeks ago!!
jess9395 replied to ColdWater99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's best to lose. Fast/slow, we don't always have a choice. Pros and cons of each... skin rebounds to the extent it will rebound whether it's as you lose or it catches up later. I'm also not sure about the "magic window" of a year or 18 months. A lot of research indicates perhaps a new set point that we will reach and after that it's harder, whenever that happens. I know we are trying to encourage and help the OP reconcile with their journey/rate of loss... but let's not Place value judgements on the rate of loss. To the OP, not sure any of us have enough information to help you. We give standard advise--protein first, get your water in, meet your protein goals... but clearly your situation is more complex with your thyroid and insulin. Sometimes people with insulin resistance must be extra careful with simple/white carbs and fruit. But beyond that, you may need your doctor or nutritionist to weigh in! Or as dreamingsmall says above, share with us what you are eating and we will attempt a guess. -

Yummy.... I've been here for over four years. You've been here for less than four weeks. It takes all kinds to make a message board. If someone isn't your "kind" take what you like and leave the rest. Yes even on a post you started because these posts live long after we are gone and new people and old alike continue to read them for years and learn from them. The tough love works for some and not others. It works for me so I am glad it exists here. Dreamingsmall rubs some people the wrong way, some of us appreciate her. You can't possibly have read every post of hers, so don't lose credibility exaggerating. Let's just move on and block her if she's not your style. She doesn't claim to be "better" than anyone just perhaps more experienced than some. I think that those who are further out can have more to share and more credibility in some of our eyes. But that's not to say anyone's any better, just perhaps have more experience to share. And keeping a level head often means you get listened to more than if you curse and lose your temper too. I hear what you are saying, that it's not about the soup or pizza or even about you stepping off plan pre op. You are saying it's about Dreamingsmall's pattern and way of interacting. I just don't agree with you that she makes everyone mad every time, because I like and appreciate her. -
I struggled to get over about 600 for months and months. At six weeks I was maybe 400. But I would continue to lose at 1200. I eat between 2000 & 2500 most days to maintain. I am pretty dang active, but on really active days I've been known to go even higher.

What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?
jess9395 replied to SassyScienceNerd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
TOTALLY! I haven't eaten bread in four years, but for my teen and husband I only typically buy a particular brand of sourdough that has no additives and is baked from starter that's been going for decades. REAL bread with no added sugar or corn syrup either. -
This is the general advice usually given. But the OP, should she ever return, says she doesn't eat any carbs and does all those things. So we are trying to get more detail from her to help her specifically. If she is doing all those things and still gaining, she should visit her doctor. Probably not a bad idea anyhow.
-
Exactly my point. I like that all kinds of support are given because we are all different and need different styles. I needed that style so I'm glad that it is here for others who do. There's plenty of all styles.
-
I think she comes across as straight talking, no nonsense helpful. We all respond to different things. Those kinds of responses were exactly what HELPED me in my early days. So I am glad there are all kinds of responses on here. It's a bulletin board. Short of people being overtly nasty, which she is not, we all need to learn to take what's useful to us and leave the rest! Just my humble opinion.

My doctor doesn't do them routinely, just if there's reason to suspect a problem like esophageal scarring from long term GERD.

Post-op: How long until you ate real food?

Plastics or no plastics ?
jess9395 replied to dreamingsmall's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you can afford it, totally plastics! I am thrilled with mine! I lost 135 and got a tummy tuck, my bat wings fixed and my boobs lifted and refilled. I never dreamed I would need implants. I started at like a 42J so I thought a reduction was in order. Nope, needed small implants to fill it back up. -
