Where are these trolls coming from?
jess9395 replied to goldenbarbie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can I ask why exercise is such a key measure of accomplishment for you? Did you read a book today? Did you learn something new? Did you make someone smile? Did you do a good deed? Did you help someone? Many ways to be productive and brighten the world around us. -
Where are these trolls coming from?
jess9395 replied to goldenbarbie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It does come across as passive aggressive to me too so it’s not just her. But I will be the first to admit you can’t get tone of voice in a message. Perhaps if you are truly trying to spread positivity I might suggest not asking about the gym per se? Some of us exercise without one. Some of us can’t exercise either yet or at all. Asking if someone has been productive too isn’t exactly positive always. Perhaps asking them what is going well for them or what they enjoyed or appreciated? When my kids were little we called these “woo-hoo’s” Oprah talks about her gratitude journal. I think that’s a more positive approach perhaps [emoji6] -
Found it, but why can’t you just link it? Why do you make people search for it when you are trying to share knowledge or convince someone? Looks quite interesting thanks!
-
Again can you send me the link to the actual study? I love reading about the ever evolving field of nutrition but I don’t like to read it from secondary sources especially those selling something.
-
Thank you I’m reading this now and I’m having the same issues with the methodology as the article I linked to above is. To clarify.... I do not eat a ketogenic diet, I don’t think most people do. I think low refined carbs or even low carbs does not a ketogenic diet make. But I think a lot of people erroneously confuse the terms. It has its place (among epileptics who don’t respond well to other treatments, for example). But I think your method of virtually screaming at people and your use of sarcasm and verbal sparring will not win friends nor influence people.

I read the linked ARTICLE which described a study and had a link to a study but it was broken. I would like very much to read the actual study if you can provide a link!
-
I’m trying to find the original study that the article you link to above cites, but the link in the article is broken. Do you have a link to the actual study? Is it peer reviewed? Because this article https://www.medpagetoday.com/primarycare/dietnutrition/59012 Has some issues with the methodology and interpretation of the study and questions perhaps a conflict of interest in how the study was funded. The article you link to is a site selling something so I always like to read the actual source.

Also they are one of the highest glycemic index fruits... quick sugar with little fiber to slow it down.

What are the MRI and ultrasound of? That’s a bit unusual. Liver?

Am so tired of people who ask every ten minutes why they're not losing weight
jess9395 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Rants & Raves
You can’t edit posts after about 15 minutes. And you can’t edit other people’s posts. You also can’t delete an account (for the person who asked) however you can turn off notifications in your settings. -
Swallowing Complications 6 months out
jess9395 replied to KateBruin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just went back and read your other posts... sounds like they’ve ruled out a stricture? There are meds that speed gastric motility as well. Swallowing csn definitely be a symptom of GERD damage as can the intolerance and vomiting, but not usually motility. Swallowing difficulties and intolerances and vomiting can definitely be anxiety symptoms too. Perhaps the motility issues you have could even have triggered the anxiety and the follow up symptoms, so it can get complicated when some are physical symptoms (motility) and others could be psychological symptoms triggered by anxiety about the initial symptoms. Do think about taking a multi modal approach and including counseling, meditation and anxiety medication. The anxiety meds don’t interfere with the GI tract typically but make sure you confirm that with any doctors and with the specific anxiety Med you consider (if you do). -

You’ve gotten some great advice, only one thought to add... if you think it might be psychological (we do have a very strong mind-body connection) have you tried anti anxiety medication? It’s come a LONG WAY since the Valium days. -
With the regular pasta!
-
I’m not even plant based and I LOVE the edamame pasta I got at Costco! I am four and a half years out and had had regular pasta once post op till I found it a month ago and I’ve had it four times in that month! 2 oz (I only eat 1) has 24 G protein and 21 g carbs, but of those 11 are fiber!

I do think there are “Heath pounds” to lose and “vanity pounds.” And definitely need to weigh how much the struggle for those vanity pounds is worth to you. Recent studies actually show that people who are slightly overweight (BMI of 27) live longer than those who are underweight, obese and yes actually NORMAL weight! https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/1555137 https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/could-a-few-extra-pounds-help-you-live-longer/ Now where you carry the excess weight has something to do with it as well (visceral fat, seen in Apple shapes is the worst) and you have to give up smoking and such, but you get my drift. I do wish there were indeed a way to say what your own optimal weight is and how much those extra pounds would reduce the risk of medical issues. Hopefully that will come with more research and time, but we aren’t there yet.

Weight loss at first postoperative visit predicts long-term outcome of RNY
jess9395 replied to gr8ful1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m trying to read this... does it really say that even the 95th %ile doesn’t lose 100% of excess weight? I just checked my stats and I was pretty consistently at the 90th %ile but I lost greater than 100% if 100% puts you at a BMI of 25. -
31lbs first month went from 271 to 240. I was 42. Lost 135lbs in a year. I’m four and a half years out and maintaining nicely. My experience is definitely on the extreme side.

Wondering when I can drink alcohol
jess9395 replied to Evelyn Canales's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I think the way you worded it that triggered a lot of your responses.... “Really want a drink” Alcohol is rough on a healing stomach. The empty calories are rough on weight loss. Typically people feel drunk quicker which is tough on food choices. Most plans recommend avoiding liquid calories in general. Most recommend avoiding alcohol for 3-6 months or even a year. Some recommend avoiding it forever. Check with your surgeon and your plan. Also, note—at 9 days post op you are still healing. Your cut nerves haven’t healed yet and you probably can’t feel what’s going on so you wouldn’t be able to feel any burning or other harsh effects on the healing cut edges. That takes about six weeks to three months. So it may feel like you’re handling it well but you just don’t know yet. So, that is why I respectfully deferred to your surgeons plan. You trusted your surgeon to cut you open, trust their plan. Some people drink earlier out than others. Some do well with it, some do not. Your question, though, “how soon can I have a drink” I turn back on you. You can find people on here to give ANY answer you like. Whose answer are you looking for? Most of us don’t have medical degrees. -

What does your surgeon’s plan say? Different plans say different things. You trusted your surgeon to cut you open, trust your surgeons diet advice. -
I had it from Early out no problems.

Yes this! Because estrogen is stored in fat so when we lose it it releases extra estrogen!

Can we talk about boobs and bras?
jess9395 replied to Real California April's topic in The Gals' Room
I hear ya! I said mine were a 32L (as in Long) before my lift! I had to roll up the tube socks and tuck them into my bra. The problem with the VS padded or push up ones is they are what they call a “demi” cup and that means “half” so you will push them up and they will tumble right out of the top of the cups because those bras are designed to enhance CLEAVAGE so they leave the top half of the boobs uncovered. You don’t want that!!!! Believe me I’ve tried! Look for bras that say “full coverage.” I had the most success with Wacoal and Natori myself. They are pricey but worth it! -
Here’s my reasoning and maybe you can see where I’m coming from. I’m assuming (and that’s why I said is it a possibility) that a job at a movie theatre is just that, a J-O-B job not a career. There are many similar level jobs (retail?) that aren’t around food. Why not set your environment up for success? Same as keeping trigger foods out of your house. Why not embrace the opportunity to move to a non food-centric job? If it’s a career not a job, then I withdraw my suggestion. If it’s a job you’re passionate about then learn other coping skills to avoid the popcorn. And yeah, better to learn those coping skills in the long run, but why not change your environment to better reflect a non food centric lifestyle if it’s possible. To me that’s changing your environment to promote success not running away from a problem.

Be careful... what do you feel “left out” of? You’re enjoying their company, yes? Being included in the conversation, yes? What exactly are you left out OF? That’s a mental hurdle you will have to overcome to made this new life work for you!
