Great deal-Scar Away silicone treatment
jess9395 replied to jess9395's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are several people on the board that have used and recommended silicone scar treatments which is what this is. I scar badly (not keloid but hypertrophy) and got this based on their recommendations. I have a scar from my tubal ligation from 10 years ago that looks worse than my VSG ones from less than a year ago. I don't know for sure it was the treatment, but they are definitely smaller lighter and not raised. -

How to add fiber without grains or supplements?
jess9395 replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Without grains or supplements you are left with fruits and vegetables if you want to use whole foods. If you aren't concerned about it being whole foods, then as people have said the quest bars are good sources. -

Fiber is grains, fruit and veggies. You can also add fiber with supplements like Benefiber as Metamucil. I add those to my Protein shakes. -

Protein vs Calories?
jess9395 replied to snowkitten's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As everyone has said, protein shakes keep the calories low and that's pretty much a staple in early days. Fish (tuna and shrimp and tilapia and whatever) have very little fat. Nonfat dairy (Greek yogert is the bomb) -
Protein vs Calories?
jess9395 replied to snowkitten's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Given your 80g protein (for 320 cal) And your <30g carbs (for 120 cal) That makes 440 calories. So the rest of your 1200-1600 calories must be coming from fat, yes? That's like 800-1300 or so calories just from fat or over 100g. If you chose leaner source of protein your calorie count should go down. -
Protein vs Calories?
jess9395 replied to snowkitten's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't speak for all, but my doctor gives a range of 60-80 G Protein so I don't always get in 80 daily. I do always get in 60 and aim for 80. But that said, a gram of protein has 4 calories so 80g = 320 calories. I work towards a 50% protein 25/25 carbs and fat. So on the days I get 80g of protein I get 40g carbs (@4 cal per gram = 160) and 40g fat (@9 cal per gram = 360) for a total of around 840. But many days (especially when I was less than six months out) I only eat/ate 60-70g protein so then I come in around 600 a day. -

I dunno, I always find the posts by those further down the path than me inspiring. Plus not sure where I would fit given your categories =P. Not at goal, running 5k's and moving up to 10k this month with larger goal races scheduled, but before surgery could barely WALK a mile. Even back in HS. Did couch to 5k starting six weeks out from surgery.

Am officially 116 lbs down since surgery (12/2/14) and have a normal BMI for the first time since elementary school. Bought size 6 jeans yesterday!

I started yoga at six weeks out. Practice daily now at home and 2-3 classes a week. Look on YouTube for videos also!

Thank you!

How far out are you? If you must have bread bread do whole wheat with no added sugar (or molasses or honey or corn syrup).

How could you POSSIBLY be exercising right now?
jess9395 replied to ChavaBling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started couch to 5k at four weeks post op when I was eating about 500 cal a day. I now eat about 800 (8 mos out) and just completed a triathalon and an training for a half marathon. I run or do yoga daily. I eat more on race days but only about 150-200 calories more. I never struggled energy wise, I figured it was because I had plenty of reserves (fat) to burn, but who knows. We are all different! -
