Yeah you gotta get your Protein up. In another that isn't so strict on the carbs (I don't do much--no bread/pasta/rice but I don't go as low as 30g). But at 20g of protein you will lose more than hair, you will lose muscle mass. I couldn't shake the shakes until almost a year out, needed one a day to keep the protein up. Still have one more days than not. Protein Bars (quest is my jam) help too as long as they aren't the ones with lots of carbs/sugar. Make your Snacks about protein too-- lunch meat rolled in cheese, boiled shrimp, tuna, hard boiled egg, string cheese, nuts, Jerky, Greek yogert, grilled chicken strips, etc.

And #sizedoesntmatter also. Feel free to check out my Instagram too I'm doing a yoga challenge! Jessica.stw. I've come a long way and attribute my 19% body fat (just got full body scan today) to yoga as much as the running and diet! BIG yoga fan here!!!

LOVE LOVE yoga! And yes find an instructor who can help you modify the poses. I started shortly after surgery and have worked my way up over the last year and am amazed at what my body is now capable of!!!! But no it is not easy, but there are ways to modify every pose to make it work for where you are at! As my favorite teacher says, there are no gold medals in yoga! Do what works for YOUR body, yoga doesn't care how it looks or if you can do what the person next to you does. Do you instagram? Lots of great yoga for bodies of all sizes there!

What are your favorite things to wear now that the weight is gone?

Yes!!! Heels/wedges/boots! All those things! -
Peanut butter, can anyone recommend a good brand?
jess9395 replied to Homecie's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yup! And to the OP, I am in CA too and get Laura Scudders at costco or the grocery. Trader Joe's also has all the nut butters with nothing added except sometimes salt. -

Skinny jeans (or skinny on ME jeans, I have large calves from running so true skinny jeans gap at the waist, butt and hips if they fit my calves!). Leggings with big sweaters. Above the knee skirts. Sundresses. Yoga clothes (including those flimsy sport bras I never thought would work on me--they still don't when I run, but are perfect for yoga). My hair up (DH used to always say I needed to wear my hair down to balance out my body so I didn't look like a pinhead!) -
Exercising on small amounts of food post-surgery?
jess9395 replied to nolongerhere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can't tell you why but I've never had a problem with it post op. I do 3-5 mile runs easily on very few calories. If I am going longer than that or am racing I will add some extra carbs--fruit, dried fruit, oatmeal, flax or coconut flour pancakes. I always try and have a Protein shake within a half hour of finishing my run though. One thing maybe is my exercise has increased as my weight has decreased so I am moving 130 pounds less around and it's not as tiring. My endurance has built up slowly as the weight dropped. So it's different post op that way. -

Many of the ones that say "natural" still have added sugar. I use Laura Scudders. Nothing but peanuts and salt. I'd rather have the fat than the sugar -
Nashua nutrition online sells sample packets of EVERYTHING!

I've been using them since a few weeks out, yes. And they meet my doctors guidelines. They are 110-140 cal per scoop 3-6g carbs (3 sugar) and 23g Protein. The reason they say they are designed for body builders and not weight loss is because they have a matrix of protein types. They have whey isolate but they also have whey concentrate and casein. This means the protein isn't as quickly absorbed but that also means you stay fuller longer. My team is fully supportive of this as a choice. It meets all the needs of their program. As you say different doctors have different recommendations, so follow what yours says not mine, but I have been very successful using matrix from the beginning and I continue to use it at a year out. All my labs are perfect, I've lost 130lbs (BMI 22, size 4) and run half marathons and done triathlons. I do yoga three times a week too! Get my full body scan this week so I will see what my body fat percentage is officially after a year, but I know it's is a good range. So it's worked well for me!

What fitness related EVENT are you training/preparing for?
jess9395 replied to catfish87's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Setting up my race calendar for 2015! Goal is a 10k or longer race every month. Top contenders now are.... Ragnar relay socal Catalina Island sprint triathlon Goleta or Malibu beach triathlon Catalina Island Eco half marathon Spooners cove 7 mile trail run Santa Barbara International half marathon Las Vegas rock n roll half marathon Two local half marathons and our local sprint triathlon Trying to decide if I'm up to training for a FULL marathon next year! Eyeing the Ojai to Ventura "mountains to the sea" marathon! Or the half if I'm not up to the full. Anyone done a full???? -
I love fit flops too!!! I don't wear them to work out. But do for everything else including long days at Disneyland walking all over and stuff like that! Great for days where you are just on your feet all day. For running I love Mizuno's and Hoka's. I have a wide toe box but a narrow heel. Definitely recommend getting fitted by the pros at a running store.

Good Prince Charming analogy!!! I kissed a lot of frogs including many that people on here love. My favorites are Syntrax Matrix and BSN Syntha 6.

I totally get you. I have never really set a long term goal, it was little ones. Lose 50lbs, less than my husband, shop in regular size stores, get below 200, lose 100lbs, and so forth. Then at size 8 I figured I would get no smaller and bought a lot of clothes. Then shrunk out of them. Did the same with size 6 and now am shrinking out of those. They were never a goal. Fitness more than size wasy goal and now I run half marathons do triathlons and have a yoga body with lots of muscle. Size inflation is a big part of it. I wore a 12 in middle school. My 12 post wedding dress from my wedding day is big on me but not THAT big. Maybe two sizes, not four. Size 0 didn't exist back in "the day" and now we have 00 and even 000 in some brands. It's a journey!

Darn! Guess I will get the 16 yo to order it then. I don't really do much apple juice because of the sugar/carbs.

You've lost 32 lbs in two weeks and you're wondering if that's good? Ummmm heck yea. -
Some doctors don't recommend it because it can be hard on the stomach (think acid/reflux). Mine doesn't have a problem with it.
-
Oh my goodness YUM! I gotta try that! Or better yet let my 16 year old with the super fast metabolism order it and have a few sips LOL! Probably not a whole lot of Apple juice though, right?
-
Thanks! 130lbs down. Will post one year before and after soon!

Today is my one year surgiversary and aside from outfits that show off my belly (need some plastics for that) I am thrilled to say I can wear anything! Here is my outfit today, size 4 skinny jeans and knee high boots!

I've had to re learn how to sit properly with good posture. Usually the tailbone pain is a sign your posture has slipped to accommodate the extra weight--your shoulders come forward and you sit in a C curve basically, rounding the lumbar area instead of letting it do its normal S curve. You need to sit further forward on your "sitz bones" if you will (yoga term). Let your lumbar region arch, poke your tailbone further back and sit more on the backs of your thighs if that makes sense. Chiropractor, physical therapist, orthopedist or a good massage therapist can show you!

Almost a year. But been using coconut flour since about 6 months
