UPDATE w/ pics! 110lbs in 10 months!

Wow! You look amazing, and 10 years younger!!! -
Lots of good advice here! This is an issue I can TOTALLY relate to! I second the asking a teen girl, my 16 year old daughter is my judge jury and executioner (which means anything she deems inappropriate she keeps and wears instead!)

My experience has been if you want to run as a "free agent" and you post that you are available, you will almost always get offers...especially if you can be a last minute addition! After I signed up to free agent McDowell mountain I took a spot on a team and forgot to take myself down and got about 10 offers in the two weeks leading up to the race. I get about one Key west offer per week, but don't think I can commit to the airfare cost right now sadly.

Sorry been absent. I decided to spend the holidays eating intuitively--keeping mindful of choices but allowing myself the treats I wanted while keeping protein/exercise/fluids up. Decided not to weigh myself until after the holidays and see where it got me. Was up to 142 day after Christmas, then recommitted and am now at 139.

Worst "compliment" you have gotten since surgery

Like I said I'm sure yours was different. I do try very hard though to not read my own issues and insecurities in what others say. -

I actually had my first experience with this today. Someone I hadn't seen in a year. She asked me how I did it kind of tentatively and I answered and she said "oh thank goodness I was worried you were sick or something". I didn't mind her concern a bit... But that was probably different than how you've experienced it. -

Kinda like what I use with my kids... THINK is it... Truthful Helpful Interesting Necessary Kind I can go with just one and then it can be said. For what it's worth, I say "I used to be fat" or "back when I was fat" all the time, which I understand is different. I don't mind hearing it, so I say it first when someone is struggling about how to say it nicely ???? -
Horrible eating over Christmas

Just to clarify, I don't mean don't do the 5 day pouch thing... But just do it one day at a time mentally! -

Just do a detox for ONE DAY. At least that's what you tell yourself. This is what I did...I said OK I'm gonna have a NO sugar NO refined carbs detox day. If I want some tomorrow, OK. And guess what? One day and I was under control again. Try it! You can do anything for ONE DAY right? -

Count me too in the overindulged camp! I just planned on it, dropped to my lowest at about 4lbs below goal and enjoyed myself just like a "normal" person. Didn't overdo nearly like I ever did before, and honestly the sugar made me feel icky. Gained a few lbs (not as many as I feared) got right back on track and am now a pound below goal again. Part of what helped is I kept up on my exercise (running and yoga) even though my eating was off. I think it's OK! -
Just a note to all those guys out there who can eat a ton of total crap and stay skinny.... Wait till you turn 50! That was totally my husband and now he's gained about 30lbs and is in the "overweight" category and soooooo not thrilled! When he eats what I tell him to, he can drop it quickly, and he's willing to make some changes, but he will NOT give up his bread and pasta. Oh well. No one looking at him would EVER call him fat and he has no health issues, just can't wear the 32 jeans he's worn his whole adult life!

Dinner Frustration
jess9395 replied to vincereautmori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! Exactly what we do. I share with hubby or my kids (16 & 12) or sometimes just ask for an extra plate and eat a bit from each of them. -
Abuse of wls..when it's not needed

I did share my story, she asked for my dr info which I have her. Hardest part is she's a Dr herself so she tends to go straight to specialists and tell them what she needs! Well I guess it's in her court now to follow up on or not. Just not sure how to talk to her about it these days when she brings it up. -

That's kinda what I did, while sharing my own experiences....she wanted the name of my dr which I gave her, I honestly don't think he would do it, so perhaps it's best if she just takes to him. Thanks -
Can you ever eat "Normal" food again?
jess9395 replied to smoggie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes. A year out here and the only thing I really can't tolerate even in small amounts is rice. Though I haven't tried pasta so I don't know about that. -

Point taken, esp the title of the thread. Still I think it's an interesting topic to discuss. -

Fair enough. But if it were a close friend and she asked you, what would you say? This is my specific position, and I don't know what to tell her. -

Ok you must have not read my earlier posts. I have a friend. She is currently 20lbs over where she wants to be, she wears a size 8 and is normal weight. She has been as high as 30lbs more than she is now which was a bit into the overweight category, but not obese. She never had a weight problem till she had her kids (second pregnancy). She has asked me what I think about her getting the surgery so it can help her get skinnier. None of this is assumptions. She's brought it all to me and asked. I don't know what to say to her. -

I also do do the appetizers. Crab cakes, ceviche, shrimp cocktail, poke...lots of healthy choices. Course you have to like seafood. Street tacos are on a lot of menus. I order just one and eat the insides. -

I split meals a lot. Also a lot of restaurants have an "add on" option like add crab legs to steak and I will "add on" to someone's meal. I also do a salad with meat as a meal. -

Right you are. So let's talk hypothetical because it does happen. What would you think of a person with no comorbidities who has never been obese and is wanting the surgery? Interested in hearing opinions! -

jess9395 replied to Momma_D's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ok so remove the guess of 50lbs. Remove that assumption. I am really interested in hearing thoughts about those already in the healthy range or into the overweight category by 10-20lbs or so. No comorbidities. My initial reaction was shock and horror, but perhaps I should revisit that? What do you think? I also think that while the initial poster might have made a few assumptions, she had an open mind and was just soliciting feedback/opinions.
