    Marathon training

Starting Hal Higdeon Novice 2 next Monday for the Mountains to Beach marathon in May in Ojai/Ventura CA. Fueling will be interesting! I've done half marathons and 10K's and relays where I've done 15+ miles but 26 is a whole nother ballpark regarding glycogen storage and all. Thinking of meeting with my nutritionist and talking plans. I am at goal so need to adjust anyhow...actually well below goal and still dropping. Need to fix that. For the halfs and anytime I go more than an hour I do carbs---bananas, oats, flax, coconut flour, fruit, dates, quinoa, etc--an hour before then use a Gu or Beans or Gels every half hour.

    Peanut Butter

There are plenty of nut butters that contain just nuts or maybe add a touch of salt. I use Laura Scudders brand but there are others. To the OP I have used real PB from the start. Use no sugar added in moderation and you are fine. pB2 actually has added sugar. I am at goal now and actually eat at least a TB of peanut butter daily.

    Leg Pain/Numbness

I had that! My vitamin level tests were all normal, they sent me to a neurologist who did tons of tests... Finally went away after about six months and they never did figure out what it was! But a B12 deficiency is the most common cause
  4. Depends on the type of food! I can eat many more calories worth of carbs than heavy protein before I feel full. Been that way at all stages. Protein and fat fills me quickly, even now at over a year out maybe 100 calories, 150 tops. Carbs I could do as much as 300 or so.
  5. I looked younger for a while... Then when I dropped really low (below goal) the wrinkles came out and I look older!

    Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!

While this is all true, her nutritionist's argument was flavored yogerts have more sugar and that isn't necessarily so!

    Does running get easier!?

Check out IT band, sounds like yours may be tight. Yoga, foam rolling, myofacial release are good things for loosening it!
  8. My understanding is Las Vegas still has a full. Haven't done one yet but have plans to do the half this year in November
  9. So jealous!! I Did Ragnar Napa and McDowell Mountian Trail last year and would LOVE to do Key west!! One day! Training for a May marathon myself!

    Half marathon training

I did my first half in October, 10 months post op. I really didn't have any issues fueling for the half or anything shorter. You really don't need to fuel if you are running shorter than 45 mins and if it's over that you just need about 100 calories every half hour--Gu's aren't great but they are easy to eat and don't take much room. I like the Beans and gels better. I eat complex carbs about 60-90 mins before the race---oatmeal, banana with Peanut Butter, flaxseed pancakes, orange, Apple--then fuel during the really long runs. This year I am training for a marathon and its a whole new ball game!
  11. I can only drink bottled filtered water, tap water still sits funny/heavy in my stomach over a year out and makes me sick to my stomach

    Eggs are bad

Couldn't do eggs without my tummy hurting for about 4-5 months. Now they are fine
  13. How long have you been at goal? I am 45 and lost 135lbs and the skin was AWFUL under the arms at first, but is about 60-70% better now and I have only been at goal about 3 months. It can get better. I am still thinking surgery but feeling like it will be much less extensive now and am waiting the full six months from goal before a consult. I have a friend who had her arms done. If you look under her arms you can definitely see the scars, BUT if you aren't looking for them they are easy to overlook.
  14. Ha ha! I would like to give a glib answer to that one except I actually DID get shorter! Doc said some people do bc we lose padding from the feet and literally become shorter. I am down 135lbs and a whole inch!

Tummy Tuck In 2 Days -Dec 17th

Yeah no I they don't do that, they can put it in your butt, but not your boobs for some reason! Boobs have to be implants
  17. Not unusual for as far out as you are. It's all I could eat till about six months out

    Comparison: VSG to C section?

I guess we are all different. My C section was way worse than my sleeve surgery! Much more pain and harder recovery.
  21. Yup, it definitely takes a while to notice sometimes. And yes, I think comments (or lack of them) say more about the other person and their reality than it does about yours, which is why they usually don't bother me and if they do it isn't for long. Good analogy. I hope your friend is able to have her own successful journey one day whatever that may look like and mine as well!
  22. You know what... I think you win! The ONLY comment that has hurt me personally post op was one of my best friends for 30 years who I see relatively frequently--not frequently enough so she wouldn't notice, but not so rarely she wouldn't notice--said NOTHING even as I lost 75, 100, 125+ lbs. She finally did because we were in a group and others were commenting. That was the only one that hurt. I am thinking it was more about her than me (she was the skinny one who weighed less than 100lbs through HS and is now overweight) so I didn't hold onto the hurt, but it was there.
  23. Oh my goodness I get the big head thing too! My husband is the worst, he keeps saying now I see where our son got his big head! LOL, I don't mind so don't anyone go thinking my husband is being mean ????

    Compression garments?

Ditto. I wear it to run (usually under armor) but that's about it. And even then typically only for races or longer runs (over 6 miles)
  25. I think half of it is the SMILE you're beaming!!!
