Post-op Meal Phases
jess9395 replied to BigHarleyGuy1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every doctor has a different plan so it's hard to break it down like that. My doctor progresses on the more rapid size. I had one week of liquids only (full liquids not just clear) then a week of puréed (thicker soups without chinks, cottage cheese, yogurt, ricotta, retried beans all worked fine too) then a week of soft which was anything I could cut/mash with a fork (soft fish, deli meats, cooked vegetables, eric) then I was cleared to introduce anything and continue as tolerated. -
Can't speak to the birth control, I took care of that after my two kids! But check with your dr about ibuprofen, not all of them say never again, depends on your level of acid for one. My dr says no maintenance ibuprofen for anything long term, but I can take it once in a while for a headache or something.

Protein Bars not feeling so good
jess9395 replied to TRexMom6525's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Part of the issue with Quest bars is the sugar alcohols and part is the Fiber. Many people have issues with them. I did when I was earlier in the process, but have been fine with them since about 9 months out. -
Ditto--berries and melons. Bananas are a killer! I still eat them once or twice a week but only half and only on days I run.

Is my surgeon too easy-going and liberal?
jess9395 replied to Sara51692's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon advances that quickly. My plan included anything I could tolerate at that point as well and the same calorie recommendations. I didn't eat that many calories for many more months though. I just couldn't get them all in when I ate Protein first, etc. Though I did eat a number of mini meals rather than three meals a day to keep the count to 800 at least. I lost easily and never had any big issues (a few things still don't agree with me and I am 18 months out). I think if you are careful and choose a surgeon you trust you follow the plan YOUR surgeon lays out. You chose them for a reason, trust their judgement. I think maybe sometimes if we keep the calories TOO low for too long our bodies adapt. So if you keep them at 400-600 then yes 1200 will become your maintenance intake. I lost quickly and easily at 800-1200 (lots of exercise too) and my maintenance is 1600-1800 (at 135 and again LOTS of exercise). -

My experience too. And was back at work in two weeks out of hospital after one night -
Anyone on here use this? I've been thinking of trying them but they are so pricey I was afraid, but at this price I might give it a shot. Recommendations? (And yes I do get credit if you click the link below and purchase, but would love feedback you don't have to purchase!): http://www.zulily.com/invite/jstewart729/e/zulily-debut-garden-of-life-137342.html?tid=social_email_ipad_shareviaicon_na_modal_a2a863c3461d6ee7fc716dfbafd8ef83&eid=137342

I also packed a ton and used very little. I wasn't allowed to use any over the counter meds I brought in the hospital (gas x, throat lozenges, anything!) but they brought me throat lozenges which were awesome. Used my cell phone/charger Used my Chapstick. The hospital gave me toiletries even toothbrush/paste which is all I used. My own pillow from home (the ones in the hospital had crunch plastic cases for cleanliness so they were noisey and uncomfortable That's about it

I was allowed to try salads and veggies at six weeks on my doctors plan. I couldn't tolerate them till much Further out (six months or so). Still have trouble with raw carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and some others at a year and a half post op.

2 monthes post op and have lost no weight since week 5
jess9395 replied to Roxydoll67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay great! So that's really more like 80g of protein because of the chicken or fish when you are looking at the full day. Sounds like your eating is great. Maybe it's just about being patient. Hang in there! If you keep on keeping on there's no way you can't lose weight. -
Different doctors have different plans and different things work for different people. I don't do empty carbs (bread, rice, pasta, etc) for the most part, but never gave a thought to ketosis and ate fruit and other "healthy" carbs. Lost 135 in a year and am keeping it off.

My insurance wouldn't cover anything bc they said it wasn't bad enough (pannus has to hang past the groin a certain amount or untreatable rashes, etc). I had TT, arms and breast lift/augment and was 23K. This is in California so I believe that's on the high side. I got a discount for combining procedures.

HUNGER - is it really reduced?

jess9395 replied to Roxydoll67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just to note, you say you eat about 600 calories a day and 60 grams of Protein and most of what you eat is protein. The numbers don't add up. A gram of protein has 4 calories so that is only 240 calories (less than half) coming from protein. What is it you eat? Are you drinking Protein shakes? They can help get your protein count up. My count was supposed to be much higher than 60 by that point. How much Water are you drinking? -
What about the boobies!?
jess9395 replied to Sleevie.Nicks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Got out my measuring tape last night and apparently my surgeon got the memo, LOL, because my new ones are exactly 21! -
Not one

Ditto @@AvaFern I have consistently worked out--I run 30+ miles a week, yoga 3-4 days a week. Have totally cut muscles everywhere.... Covered by loose skin. I have 18% body fat. But the loose skin is there. Well was until last week when I had arm lift, tummy tuck and breast lift/aug. Age (I'm 45), genetics, ethnicity, and yea the Yo-Yo effect all play more of a role that toning sadly.

jess9395 replied to Sleevie.Nicks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
42DDD Pre op. 32DD at goal. But they were deflated tube socks with rocks at the end. Just had lift/augmentation 9 days ago and tried on my 32DD's just for grins and they still fit well but I fill the cup nicely instead of a puddle of tissue pooling in them. -
Peanut butter...oh no!

There are a several peanut butters on the market with no sweetener at all, just peanuts and salt. I use Laura Scudders -

I avoided it during the loss phase as well for these reasons, but it helps me keep the calories up for maintenance! -
Great restaurant options for maintenance
