What is on the menu today
jess9395 replied to chunkyloverlovesyou's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Peanut butter and mint cookie are my favorite too!!! Just not good in coffee LoL -
I was allowed eggs during purée but they made me sick till about 4-5 months out. I still can only eat maybe one, often less than one.
-
At a year and a half out I still do a protein shake every day. My capacity is too limited to do it any other way and my surgeon and nutritionist are fine with it.

Anyone Gluten Intolerant after Surgery?
jess9395 replied to Camella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bread makes me feel that way too. But be careful calling that a gluten intolerance. Gluten is a very specific protein found in wheat (not any other grains) than kills the cilia in the intestines of truly gluten intolerant people and is a very serious condition. Without specific tests and a diagnosis its better to just say bread/grains/whatever doesn't agree with me. If you are having bowel troubles, headaches or muscle pain in addition to the bloating and fatigue then perhaps have your doctor run tests. Sorry this anti gluten thing is a pet peeve of mine having a family member with celiac disease. Wheat and simple carbs cause inflammation in many people and probably aren't great for anyone (read Wheat Belly) but few people are truly gluten intolerant and it's an trendy thing these days for people to latch on to when it's truly life threatening for some. -
No catheder during my WLS because it was short (my surgeon doesn't do them for surgeries less than 2 hours). For my plastics I had one because it was 8 hours. They put it in and took it out while I was under anesthesia and I basically never "knew" it was there!

That's cool!!! When I was first post op and till about 9 months out, though, there's no way I could eat enough to fill all those compartments! My "plate" was typically a 1/2 C sized bowl (like a ramekin) that I filled either halfway or all the way. Might use one now though!

What is on the menu today

Coffee w vanilla Protein shake as creamer (syntrax matrix vanilla). Leftover roasted veggies (Brussel sprouts kale shallots and zucchini) with goat cheese and 1/4 of a protein bar (b-up cinnamon roll today--I prefer quest but have some of these I bought to try out and now have to use up!). -
When does the tiredness end?
jess9395 replied to DojiGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah it was 2-3 weeks for me. Once I felt better (less pain and just post op stuff) the fatigue was the worst! Like I felt too tired to stand in the shower for 10 mins! But by three weeks I was fine! -
You might surprise yourself! I couldn't imagine being lighter than my lowest adult weight of 155--size 10. I am now 135 and size 4 (of course sizes are different now and my 10 back then would likely be a 6/8 today!)

Ladies: Do you have trouble finding a good bra after wl?
jess9395 replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
It's hard on both ends of the spectrum it seems. I have the opposite problem--32DD or 30F. No one makes cup sizes that big with that small a ribcage!Actually my niece is exactly your size, and I got her fitted at Nordstroms. They put her into Chantelle bras. I bought her some on eBay for almost half of what Nordstroms charges. Just a thought … Thank you! I will try there. Have to drive about 90 minutes to the closest one but need to go to town next week anyhow so perfect! -
Yeah now we have 00! How is that even a size?
-
Nine months? Were you a runner pre plastics? I ran a marathon two weeks before my plastics and have my first post plastics half scheduled for four months out. Hoping I will make it!

Maintenance is not what I expected.
jess9395 replied to Healthy_life2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I too switched to fitness goals. Not so much the increase muscle type (already at 18% body fat and quite muscular) but things like bettering my times on various race lengths. Completing a marathon. Working towards a handstand in yoga. My new goal is to become a certified personal trainer OR a certified yoga instructor. -
Clothes and costume jewelry for small weight loss goals. (Mostly from Goodwill/Ross/Zulily so nothing pricey). New songs from iTunes and running gear for fitness goals. Plastic surgery to fix the loose skin for reaching final goal and keeping it off for six months!

Did your style change
jess9395 replied to lisa0617's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Totally! The empire waist floaty things I wore when I was heavy don't look good on me skinny. Trying to figure out what does! -
Medical ID Bracelet Important Information
jess9395 replied to NewLife4Me7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That has been a big discussion here on and off... But honestly I asked my sister who has been a paramedic for 11 years and she couldn't imagine any reason to ever do an NG tube in the field--no reason getting one in would ever be an emergency. It's for feeding---starvation is not a concern when they are trying to medicinally stabilize a patient in an emergency situation. She's never done one for sure. -
I am 5'6" and my body pretty much chose my goal weight for me. I just kept losing till I got to 135 and stuck there. Never been that low even as a teen. Yeah there are some times I wish I were curvier but I know it would be a fight to gain 10 lbs or so and j would have no control over where it went. I am healthy and have 18% body fat so I will just stay here.

I had tummy tuck, breast lift w augmentation and arm lift for $23K. If you can go to Mexico it's about half that. And my prices are on the high side because I am in CA

Lucerne has a similar product called Protein Plus milk--ultra filtered milk w more protein and longer shelf life. I didn't realize it was the same thing till I compared labels yesterday. I used the Protein Plus in my first few months post op for my shakes. Bought the Fairlife yesterday so I can compare!

Intubation and Drain Tubes
jess9395 replied to GirlOnFire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Intubation is how anyone under general anesthesia breathes. No options there. I didn't have drains for my WLS but had them for my plastics. Wasn't nearly as bad as a feared. That said, everyone told me no pain when they came out just a weird sensation. Well, to be honest, mine HURT coming out!!! It was over super quick though and no pain after. But about 5 secs of Ouch! -
Help I've gained four pounds this week and don't know why!
jess9395 replied to Wendyfm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Is it that time of month? Did you have a lot of sodium the last couple days? Both of those can make you retain a lot of water. Are you truly confident you are sticking to your eating plan (tracking food). Just some possibilities! Sometimes we eat a bit mindlessly by that point out and can put away more slider foods than we realize. -
Ummmm why would you miss food? Once you are out of the graduated diet you eat.... FOOD! Seriously though I eat out I eat most things I did before surgery, just less of them. The few things I don't do at all (rice, most bread, white potatoes) nope don't miss them.
