Oh and yes a @@ShrinkingPeach says protein after for muscle repair is a definite plus! I will often do half a shake before/half after.

Depends on what a workout consists of for you! Are you walking for a mile? Elliptical for half an hour? An hour of Zumba? Weight lifting? When I'm going to run for longer than about three miles (I run at about a 9:30 pace so that's running on the road for longer than a half hour) then I have about 20-25g of carbs before. Otherwise I don't worry about it. Usually it's oatmeal w/protein powder or yogert and fruit or dried fruit/nut mix or a Protein shake blended with frozen fruit...something like that. I rarely eat refined/white carbs.

Different insurances have different requirements. Mine required a certain number of inches overhang past the pubic bone. Mine didn't hang that far so no matter what rashes I documented they wouldn't cover it.

Thanks I'm always looking for new things to try! I used to like a coconut one they had that was like a mounds bar but it had too much sugar--was probably a "treat" one! I love the Quest bars myself but like to mix it up!

How many grams of carbs/sugar? Which ones do you like?

absolutely HATE cottage cheese? Any substitutions? Ricotta? I hated cottage cheese and Peanut Butter pre op and love them now! Crazy!

Need HI protein low carb ideas
jess9395 replied to lucky1gg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Running will totally make you snack and add calories, especially if you don't add fuel mindfully. Many people actually gain weight marathon training! Have you tried the Quest chips? I don't like them but many do. Toast pepperoni slices in the microwave or oven. Make cheese tuiles-- parchment paper on a cookie sheet, pile of cheese, bake till it crisps. One of my favorite running fuels: 1c dried fruit 1c nuts 1c dates 1tsp vanilla Throw in food processor till it looks like the inside of a fig newton and roll into balls. Can be frozen. I use them to fuel my long runs instead of gels or gu. Pretty high carb for most sleevers but good running fuel! -

Roasted chickpeas! Quest bars Precooked shrimp w or w/o cocktail sauce Most of my ideas are on here already. -
I am a beginning level sew-er as well but have learned to take in the seams on shirts and make tucks in dresses and such so that I can continue to wear my favorites. Hadn't thought about making things out of items. They usually go to goodwill if I can't take them in or don't like them enough to do so. Then I get "new" things from Goodwill!

Problems with losing 100 or more pounds in the first 5 months
jess9395 replied to WL WARRIOR's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow I'm so sorry! I lost about the Rate you did but had already gone through an pretty early menopause (I was 43) the year before surgery. -
funny, but serious, female question...lol
jess9395 replied to glitterpockets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I've always been busty--went from a 44DD to a 32DDL (Long!). When I rolled em up and tucked em in that's what I had! Breastfeeding two babies didn't help. Had a lift with implants and now have a 32DD/DDD (no Long!). Totally thrilled. Was sorta hoping for a D cup but they try on implants while you are under and decide what works for your frame and can't always guarantee cup size and while it's not easy to find bras the right size, they do look perfectly proportional -
I did couch to 5K and then kept increasing my runs just fine when I was only getting in 500-600 calories a day. Are you struggling with energy?

hair fall
jess9395 replied to Simran Sharma_259518's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get it every time I undergo general anesthesia--gall bladder, kidney stone removal, wrist surgery, WLS...waiting for it now post plastics. Usually hits me four months post op. They say it's all the hair that's in the telophase stage of growth dies and it takes that long for it to fall out. I'm sure it can be complicated by nutritional issues. I took tons of biotin and didn't seem to help me out any sadly. -
Isatori Eat Smart Protein Bars - $0.50 each (normally $2.99) + $5.95 shipping

Or did you mean my mini bar part? I was serious there too because they only have 5g less Protein than a Quest bar! Or did you mean my thanks? If so that was honest too and aimed at the original poster for sharing the deal. Really I am truly sorry if I offended! I didn't mean to. Now I'm starting to get a complex... Keep editing this to make sure I'm not sounding sarcastic! -

Ummmm no sarcasm intended, seriously! I truly wanted to clarify! Everyone's plans are different. Everyone is here seeking and sharing information. You came on to a thread where someone offered info and said no thanks it didn't fit your plan. I wanted to clarify to make sure I didn't miss anything before suggesting for people who didn't mind the sugar alcohols might want to try these. Believe me, if I disagree I will disagree, read my other posts! I don't use sarcasm on the net much because without tone of voice it tends to be ineffective. -
I totally get those reasons, seems like regular milk wouldn't agree with either of you. Anyone do it by choice for nutritional reasons? I thought I would try it and then saw it only had one gram of Protein per cup and honestly was quite surprised given its popularity here!

What are the benefits of Almond milk? I am not lactose intolerant so I typically do NF Fair Life milk when I have milk (used to to regular NF but just recently switched). I know there is more sugar in cow's milk from the lactose, but SO much more Protein I have always made that choice. Other than being lower carb and good for lactose intolerance, what does almond milk offer? I am game go try it if there's a good reason!

The mini bar has 15g of Protein so not so mini there ???? Got it, sugar alcohols don't count the same on my plan so thought I'd clarify for others whose plan might be like mine! Thanks for sharing! Ordered some this morning. -

Am I missing something? I read the facts and it says 6g sugar. Are you adding in the sugar alcohols? -
Greek yogert. My kids give me a hard time because I consider myself "low" when there are about six in the fridge and I go into panic mode! I have a whole shelf in my fridge just for Greek yogert.

Another quest vote here! The texture is odd... Threw me at first. Once I thought of it like a tootsie roll texture it was all good!

Bacon and chorizo! YUM! I actually had both today but I also did a triathlon so def burned it off. I'm a boring Protein shake most mornings. Sometimes it's just powder in Water (syntrax matrix usually) sometimes it's frozen fruit, plain Fage yogert and fair life milk. Sometimes I put Peanut Butter in it. Sometimes I do a small bowl of oatmeal w Protein Powder in it. Sometimes I make a low carb pancake from ricotta, protein powder and maybe some flax meal or almond meal or coconut flour. Top with Greek yogert. Sometimes I have a scrambled egg with cheese and salsa or sriracha or avocado. Often I have leftovers from dinner!

What did you say you were going to do Pre-Op (so you wouldn't fail) that you didnt accomplish Post-Op
jess9395 replied to Running2theSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You've gotten some great thoughts and advice on here. Here's a few more.... Definitely plan ahead and pack lunches. I do it for myself and the kids and hubby once a week so stuff is there and ready to go in fridge and cupboard in single serving sizes. Get a good cold pack lunch box. Why do you have to feed your kids stuff you can't have? Honestly if it's not good for you its not good for them. Mine have changed their habits for the better (Hubby too) along with me. The teens who feel they NEED pizza to survive get enough of it at friends houses or events to not need any at home. Nope don't tell the co workers where to order from, just bring stuff you like instead or eat the fillings from a sandwich. Plan plan plan!!!!! Set goals. Couch to 5k or another exercise goal. A sticker on your calendar every day you eat on plan and a non food reward when you collect a certain number (song from iTunes, pedicure, cheap pair of earrings). Keep emergency rations in your desk at work--Protein powder early out, Protein Bars, Jerky, etc for later. -
Do you eat Yogurt? What brand? What sort of toppings do you add to it?
jess9395 replied to scarletwitch19's topic in Food and Nutrition
Thank you for your detailed explain action. I did know what glycemic index meant and I do believe for all the reasons you say a lower glycemic index is better for ME despite not having diabetes. It isn't as "addicting" with the slower metabolism and lack of sugar spikes. You have set yourself a very low threshold and I'm glad that works for you. But I don't think it's wrong to market Greek yogurt with no added sugar for weight loss. It's healthy and full of Protein and a good solid choice for many. Many would argue that it's far better for you than the artificial sweeteners in the sugar free stuff which science is showing can cause increased sugar cravings in some people -
Don't be surprised if they still do a pregnancy test. I'm post menopausal also and I had to have one during all the pre-op testing and another one the morning of surgery. I thought it was so silly. I also had an ablation and my husband had a vasectomy but they insisted on it. Oh that's funny! They took my word for it (tubal ligation).
