Maybe, maybe not. If it's acid you need medication from the doctor, a PPI like Omeprazole are you on one? If it's "head hunger" then you need to do the mental work--are you hungry bc you see food commercials? Because you are sad/mad/lonely/tired/frustrated? What hole does food fill for you?

Me too!!! How weird is that? Pre op the closest I got was a Reese's PB cup! Now I use Laura Scudders brand, nothing but nuts and a bit of salt.

Did anyone tell children ?
jess9395 replied to kayjaywlj's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My kids were 11 and 16 and I told them. I emphasized the health benefits and that I would live longer and be able to participate in life activities. -
Ditto I felt it from the get go. It's possible if you are still having "hunger" that its head hunger or acid reflux, though there are people who don't get the hunger reduction. What you don't feel until you heal is fullness/satiation, at least many people don't. It's because the nerves have to heal before they can send those signals.

Can you travel the same week you get the sleeve?
jess9395 replied to wagyu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well a lot of people have the surgery out of the country in Mexico or elsewhere and then fly home. I wouldn't worry about the travel part, but if you plan on sightseeing or whatever you probably won't have the energy for that right away. I went to Disneyland 2 1/2 weeks out though and had a great time -
Any advice for "itchy" incisions?
jess9395 replied to nomorechubbybutt63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Benadryl for sure! They have a non drowsy version out there too now. -
No....the pics are in chronological order. The last pic being the most current......back to the weight I was in the first pic. Not good. This pic was taken right about the time I decided to add WLS to my arsenal. Oh! Whoops sorry! Well then good on ya for taking control and making plans again! Best of luck you are in the right place to take away some good lessons!

Looking good! Keep it up!

I think many of us have shared pix--there are whole threads devoted to it. But here ya go! SW 271 CW 135 Lost 136lbs Initial Body Fat was over 65% (can't remember and don't have my papers in front of me--blocked it out!) currently 18% I actually have a newer after I should add. Maybe tonight.

For me it's always been a spiral. Progress in one aids progress in another and the lessons are learned repeatedly at a higher level each time, cyclically. Never seems to end the growth towards health, mentally and physically. That may sound esoteric and like gobbledygook. Trying again--I learn the same lessons over and over and how to apply them to more and more situations, refining it as I go along--and it improves my health and puts me further along my journey to be the best I can be (self actualization).

Plastics: Before & After (post your pics here!)
jess9395 replied to NewSetOfCurves's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
It's a lot but it's what I did! Except did the full lift and aug. first week was rough but I'm seven weeks out or so now and feel just fine!So what does "full lift" mean exactly?I just meant in comparison to the unilateral implant. All I meant was a breast lift with augmentation. Although re reading I see you are doing a lower body lift, I had a tummy tuck. So all told I had tummy tuck, brachioplasty and breast lift with augmentation. My surgery took 8 hours. -

Is / was your nutritionist all that helpful?
jess9395 replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Mine (two of them) were pretty useless. So much so I looked into going back to school to get my dietician license to become a nutritionist for bariatric patients! I would have loved a "been there done that" nutritionist. Sadly because my masters is in the wrong subject it would take nearly three years (two of full time schooling and one of fieldwork). I'm too old for that, LOl! -
They never end, love the NSV. Yesterday ran into someone involved in one of my kids' activities I hadn't seen in two years, she didn't recognize me, she said-- oh we used to see your son all the time but he was never with you, who was that with him?

Man wish I could do that! Sadly I am feeding a household of five including a growing teen boy! Whole Foods is my love but not in my budget!

Ladies, What Size Jeans Do You Wear?
jess9395 replied to JamieLogical's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
5'6" 135 Size 4 jeans But I totally agree that cut of the jeans matters! I have large calves (I say it's from running, but I've always had disproportionately large calves) so for the life of me I can't wear skinny jeans, they don't fit my calves! They have to have a slight flare or boot cut -
Paleo for the whole family after my VSG
jess9395 replied to Rani's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
I too eat about 80% paleo but add in dairy. My tactic with my kids is exactly what you are planning! When I cook and what I keep in the house is 80% paleo (though they do whole wheat and sourdough bread which I don't). But there isn't anything they are not allowed. They have plenty of opportunities to chose non paleo fare when we go out, when at friends houses, at school or sports activities, etc. I will also order them pizza once a month or so. Life is about balance and I so hope they learn that! I exercise a lot--running, yoga, triathlons, etc, so I don't limit fruit. -
GNC, Vitamin Shop, Quest.com, AmazonThey are starting to carry them in grocery stores too! Which is great because you can compare quality to other lower prices bars.My favorite it the cookie dough and apple pie!!! Yummy! Haven't had in a few months because my NUT says not yet! And gas stations!!! At least here in CA. Have seen them in several now

3 times 10 does not equal 70!

Yeah your math is fine and it's why I still drink protein shakes over a year and a half out and well into maintenance -
Why Getting Sleeved was the Biggest Mistake of My Life
jess9395 replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yeah re the loss of lean body mass-- At 271 I was almost 70% fat and 30% lean body mass. That's 189lbs of fat and 81lbs lean body mass. Over 18 months out I am now 135 and 18% body fat which is 24lbs fat and 110lbs lean body mass. So I have actually GAINED muscle by keeping my Protein up, running and yoga. And I get the people surprised I haven't always been slim when they meet me. -
I don't think you need any more carbs than you are getting from your yogert right now then. And you don't need extra carbs for strength training, that's just for aerobic conditioning where you are raising your heart rate for over 45 mins at a time. I think you're good to go right now.

Whole Wheat Bread

I keep seeing ads for the Julian protein bars--they look really good but are pricey! If anyone tries them I would love to hear how they are! -
Whole Wheat Bread
jess9395 replied to Indieflickers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't eat bread at all, but I do buy Nature's Own 100% Whole Wheat for my family. One slice is 60 cal, 11g carbs (2 Fiber less than 1 sugar) and 4g protein. Pretty good stats for bread!
