Questions for Alcohol Drinkers ONLY!
jess9395 replied to Cape Crooner's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Six weeks I had literally a sip of wine and got a bit tipsy from it. Then waited till six months out. No No and No I do get drunk more quickly but it clears quickly as well. I don't drink beer anymore sadly because the carbonation hurts. I drink less just because I feel the effects and back off -
Peanut butter and crackers
jess9395 replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have dumping problems make sure the PB you chose has no added Sugar, lots of them, even the so called "natural" ones do. Laura Scudders brand is what I use and it has no added sugar just peanuts and salt (they also have a no salt version). There are other brands too that don't have added sugar that's just the one I know about. -

Doc says no fruit--EVER
jess9395 replied to Whynotnow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have any issue with your doc/nut saying no fruit if that's the plan you are happy with.... BUT there is scientific proof that fructose and sucrose are processed differently in the body (lactose as well). So there IS a difference between watermelon and candy. Let's not play fast and loose with the facts. -
I haven't lost any hair. Weird?

Las Vegas Rock N Roll 5k, 10k, half marathon Nov 14/15, anyone from the forums attending?
jess9395 replied to craigcu's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Ah got it. Hmmm well honestly I've never been a three meal a day since surgery, I've always done several small meals a day...my restriction is too high to do much else, so to me it's the new normal. When I need to fuel I just eat more of those mini meals. To be honest, though, I also never had any problems when I was only eating 600-900 calories and running 15 or more miles and doing yoga 3-4 times a week. My labs were normal and I stayed very heathy. I only increased my calories as I got closer to goal. Now I do 1800+ per day when I'm in training or racing. How much do your calculations say you burn running a half marathon? All the calculators and apps and fitness bands and such vary so widely in their estimates. I've heard to use 100/calories per mile as a guideline but of course it varies depending on your weight. More specifically it varies based on your lean body mass so to get a completely accurate measure you need to know body fat percentage and resting energy expenditure as well. I know my body fat percentage but have never had my resting energy expenditure tested. All my fueling has been trial and error. I know my Map My Run app totally overestimates the calories burned and so does my My Fitness Pal. It's a tricky balance for sure! I wish more people discussed this topic on here! I've tried and abandoned so many different fueling plans, now I am trying to increase my speed and do an under 2 hour half (I did a full marathon earlier this year) and fueling for that is a whole nother ball game! -
I don't hiccup or sneeze, but I get a distinct gurgling sound/feeling. If I listen for it and pay attention I'm great!

Ah, got it. Are you doing what you need to do to get your labs back on track? Vitamins, nutrition, etc? I find I basically HAVE to graze to get in the nutrition I need. I keep a very heavy run/race schedule. I'm almost two years out. I did a spring triathlon Oct 3, half marathon Oct 11, trail 10k (first in my division!) Oct 18, 18 miles of a 200 mile Ragnar Relay this past weekend, then I have Ragnar Trail in Arizona in two weeks then R&R Vegas (5k and half) the weekend after that! Becoming an athlete post WLS takes a lot of attention to nutrition and eating. You can do it! But don't let your health suffer while you are learning how to fuel your body! I have plans Friday night with an Internet group of people who have lost weight through running (if anyone goes to the expo look up the From Fat to Finish Line booth!) but would love to meet anyone who's there on Saturday! -
Yeah a tummy tuck won't do anything for the thigh skin, even an extended TT. A 360 gives you a bit of a lift on the outer thighs. You need a thigh lift for the inner thigh skin removal. You can do a "small" or "long" one. The long removes more skin but leaves a scar all the way to the knee. I did everything BUT the thigh lift of the things I wanted done. I may go back and do that eventually, but for now I'm good.

New body, new set of problems
jess9395 replied to Tootsietoes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The controversy on vitamins that it popular these days is based on normal people with a normal diet. When you eat normal amounts you don't derive much benefit from Vitamin pills. But when the amounts and types of foods you eat are limited this research showing you'd be better of flushing your money that buying a Multivitamin does not apply. You say your tests showed normal levels a few months ago, levels can change in weeks, let alone months. If you don't have a very recent test you shouldn't base your actions on that old test. -
New body, new set of problems

There are many professionals to consult with, find a different one. Try a mental health professional. Even better a mental health professional with a specialty in disordered eating. -
TT scars what's typical
jess9395 replied to Meintraining's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Either you misunderstood or your doctor is misleading you, you can't use the extra skin to fill up the breasts. Some doctors do use a fat transfer from another body part, but only a percentage is "adopted" by the body (for want of a better word) so it's very hard to predict what you will end up with. I really advise you to have enough consults to get a consensus. Two opinions isn't really enough. At least get a tie breaker. I didn't have the vertical incision and while not perfect it's definitely good enough for me, especially at my age! I have a better midsection than most 46 year olds. -

Tummy tuck questions about scar
jess9395 replied to Meintraining's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I consulted with five docs in person and two over the Internet. It's a HUGE decision, get a lot of opinions. I didn't have the vertical incision (only 2/7 recommended it) and I still have some laxity but not enough to be worth that scar. I DID get the implants (didn't think I wanted them at first). They all recommended that, but two said I could do without them but would have no "upper pole" fullness and would have a more "athletic" look. I had tummy tuck, brachioplasty, Breast lift and augmentation all at the same time. The only thing I didn't do was the thigh lift. Not sure it's worth it to me at this point. Total for all (no insurance coverage) was about 23k -
Love it on scrambled eggs! I make it from the things in my garden--multicolored tomatoes, red onions, jalapeños, lime juice, cilantro and garlic. Then I mash an avocado and put a bit of the salsa in and have guacamole too!

Body fat percentage with loose skin from surgery
jess9395 replied to Healthy_life2's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
DEXA scan is definitely gold Standard , but the impedience scale isn't bad for the price. I get a DEXA scan twice a year as part of a long term study my doctor is doing and it's different than what my impedience scale says, but not by much. My impedience scale isn't wonderfully consistent so I track a trend rather than an absolute number -

Yeah definitely seems odd. Insurance shouldn't care if you switch docs. -
The downside is they taste like cardboard with processed fake food powder on top LOL AT least to me
