It’s because of the blood thinners they give you to prevent clots. Happens to a lot of us! Very normal!

So, then all those people who pray at church in large groups.... what about them? Just staying my opinion. You are welcome to yours. We all have them.
-
Oh and I don’t consider prayer something intimate.
-
These quotes are getting all mixed up but I’m counting on people to be able to differentiate between what I have said and what @creekimp13 has. I’m laughing out loud that we should have to ask before sending well wishes. I’m stymied by the analogy of the dic pics. That’s sorta ridiculous, I mean there are even laws protecting one (religious freedom, freedom of speech) and restricting the other (to those over 18). I honestly feel badly for those who are so easily offended or put off. Must make life difficult. My thoughts go out to those of you so bothered by other people’s words and thoughts.
-
Maybe they should ask? You know... before sending prayers...and dic pics. I mean...if you're familiar enough with me that you feel comfortable invoking a deity on my behalf in some magical gesture...why not just ask if I'm ok with that first if you don't know? Forced false intimacy feels fake and wrong to me. Maybe that's part of the issue. My guess is the poster who replies that way is talking about here on a message board or an acquaintance or coworker. Someone you don’t know well. Do you expect all those people to know/remember your preference? I mean I think we may be taking about apples and oranges here. If it’s someone you consider a friend, someone you know well enough to express your preference in person to.... perhaps you shouldn’t keep them as a friend because clearly you live in different worlds with different value systems. And I’m not talking about religious views. I don’t mind if a friend says they will pray for me even though I am not religious. You do. So we have a different value system and we desire/need different things out of a friendship. But as I said earlier please don’t state your personal experience as the experience of all non religious people. It isn’t. I am not religious, but I am not easily offended by those who are.
-
“How non-religious people experience prayer” Should be “How this particular non-religious person experiences prayer” As we keep saying all over this board we are all different. Your non-religious experience is not universal. Mine is quite different. Please don’t generalize or speak for everyone. I fully respect your choice and ability to speak up (hopefully politely) and ask someone to not say they will pray for you. I think they should respect that request once it’s been made. But I did think this post was about people on an internet board with strangers not in person friends and acquaintances. Perhaps I am wrong. But most internet board posters won’t realize that preference. Even if it’s been made once. It takes 50 posts or so before I can identify anyone on here.... I don’t pay attention to the names as I would the face of a friend or acquaintance. So I think it’s different.

You know there are both religious people AND atheists/agnostics who replace action with words or thoughts. And people on both sides who act. That’s an equal opportunity fault.
-
I don’t try to mind read. I don’t know peoples intent or why they do things, so I just let it go. Much easier than being offended by what might be behind their prayer. Can’t know so why not either assume the best not the worst or just don’t assume anything and spend the mental energy elsewhere.

So if it’s not breakfast/lunch/dinner (ie three meals a day) how do you define snack versus meal? Curious about the semantics.... most of my meals are the size of a “normal” persons snack. I can’t get all my food in three “square meals.” Does that mean I am snacking? Why is that unhealthy? Or is a “snack” something you don’t plan for? What if you aren’t hungry when you’ve planned to eat? Should you eat anyway? What if you are truly hungry and you haven’t planned to eat then? Curious. It’s interesting how different people’s plans are. I’ve lost 135lbs and kept it off for almost four years, but can’t it with three meals a day, wouldn’t want to.

For the record I consider myself agnostic leaning towards humanist.

I find it interesting you assume I believe in God or a god. I haven’t said one way or the other. I would feel just fine if someone said any combination of those things. I also comment similarly on people’s threads who complain about people who say “you’re not fat enough for surgery” or whatever or call people bullies. I am a firm believer in not letting people’s words have power over us no matter what they are. I also find it slightly different... claiming a belief (I will pray for you, god bless you) versus denying someone else’s belief (there is no god). Regardless neither would bother me. Nor would any comment meant as a kindness that came out as an insult. Actually even those meant as insults rarely bother me for long, unless it is someone I am close to.
-
Why do you assume there trying to push an agenda? Anyhow, I guess It’s just weird to me now people get upset over a few words. I mean if this a friend they should know... or hear that it bothers you. But an acquaintance? Someone on a message board? Whatever.
-
Okay, but with a prayer all ya gotta do with it is put it out of your mind. Not a huge chore and nothing goes to waste. Should be quite simple. Don’t need to let any of it take up space in your mind for any longer than it takes them to say it. In one ear and out the other as it were. No different than those well intentioned yet backhanded compliments we discuss on here sometimes. In one ear and out the other.

So you’re really an atheist not an agnostic, yes?
-
Doesn’t agnostic mean you don’t know if anyone’s listening? Just making sure the difference between agnostic and atheists is what I think it is. And an apatheist just doesn’t care!

How do you, personally, define a carb?
jess9395 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Interesting! My doc had us doing benefiber from day one! And pureeing any food means you aren’t getting the soluble fiber from it. Not that that’s an issue for you, but putting it out there for those following the thread. -
No you don’t look down on them 🙄 you just say that their beliefs are not just unprovable but IMPOSSIBLE and imply that the only reason they could possibly have to believe them is indoctrination. Usually things just roll off my back unless they strike a nerve or hit close to home. If someone wishes me merry Christmas or happy Hanukkah or wishes me a pleasant Ramadan I would smile and say thank you.

Coffee after weight loss surgery?
jess9395 replied to kasensmom's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Again, caffeine is not a diuretic. Science says so. For a week or two when you haven’t been drinking it you will rid yourself of an extra ounce or two, that’s it! And once you are drinking it regularly it’s not one at all. It’s an urban myth. Here’s the link to the science that shows proof— https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/19774754/ -

Realize that pureeing foods retains the insoluble fiber but breaks up the soluble fiber. So make sure you are getting soluble fiber from a supplement like Benefiber. That was always part of my surgeons plan. You can also add psyllium husk or Metamucil for insoluble fiber. And know that the sugars in puréed fruits hit the body hard without the soluble fiber to slow it down. -
Coffee after weight loss surgery?
jess9395 replied to kasensmom's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The biggest issue with coffee is actually the fact that it’s acidic. We have less stomach area than most (which is why we need to avoid NSAIDS) and that’s the biggest concern with coffee. My surgeon doesn’t limit it after the healing phase. I drink it daily. -

Scientific review of the literature demonstrates that the diuretic effects of caffeine are much lower than people think. And that if you drink it regularly for more than a week or so it is no longer a diuretic at all— https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/19774754/ -

How do you, personally, define a carb?
jess9395 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just to clarity... fiber was my “if you are looking to carbs” option. Don’t misunderstand. Additional protein and healthy fats are the suggestions that fit with my plan and they were my first suggestions. They make me feel far more full than any carbs even those with fiber. In fact carbs, even complex carbs with fiber have a tendency to make me hungrier. I know you have a different plan, Creek, and I don’t know what the posters surgeons plan was. -

So... just a question... you say you aren’t feeling full eating only Protein. How much Protein are you eating? I’m not saying whether you should or shouldn’t add carbs, but even people who eat carbs will usually agree that dense protein is the most filling. Have you tried adding an ounce or two to your serving size? Healthy fats are another source of satiety. Avocado, olive oil, mayo, full fat dairy. If you’re looking for something to help you feel full that’s somewhere to start. If you want carbs to make you full look at the Fiber content, that’s the part that will make you feel full. Even lots of “whole grains” don’t have a lot of Fiber so look at veggies, Beans, etc. make sure whatever grains you add haven’t been processed and retain the fiber.
