Have you tried an abdominal binder or a spanx suit. I was wearing one of those after my hysterectomy and I really felt like it helped with the lower back pain from the hang. They really have some cool spanx stuff out there now that could probably help. Your hours sound like you are in the medical field. I have the same delima. Hope that helps.

Yes. That post has helped me alot. I didn't really hear anything about stretching the pouch but the same as what you heard in the beginning. That it could cause pain and you would need to be careful of your stitches or staples. I had to have stitches due to some of my other health reasons. My body would attack the staples. But I was getting so many mixed messages about stretching my pouch that I was going crazy. I usually have two diet sodas a day just to keep me going. Other than that I usually drink ice water, zico coconut water, ice tea, hot tea, and on occasion coffee. I do keep the sugars down. I have settled into a very comfy food and I know that I have to break my habit. I usually have a protein drink of some sort for breakfast and for lunch a bowl of soup. Not very much protein in the soup that I am eating but I have started putting the unflavored protein powder in the soup. I just got some labs back and I have some low values with my vitamin d, calcium, and protein. So I am going to have to be daring again and get out there and try more protein rich foods and enjoying my salads again. It's hard when you get down sick to just go back to the comfy foods that you know work for you but aren't all that great for you. Thanks so much for any input anyone has. I really appreciate it. I have just felt alone and lost here lately. Thanks to all!

But in all seriousness. Have I stretched my pouch by drinking carbonated drinks? ?? I am so paranoid. I have waited and longed to have this surgery for 10 years. Now I have had it done and I don't want to do ANYTHING to have messed it up that stupid.

I am PARANOID! I never heard the rumor that drinking a diet soda or anu carbonated drinks can stretch out your pouch. I do enjoy two carbonated drinks a day before I heard that. Now I have been s basket case. I guess basically because I am at a stall. I'm not moving. I know that I had the illness and that set me back with a lot of fluid build up but I am about to pull my hair out. I sit in the bathtub and cry thinking did I do all of this for nothing. Did I sabotage myself over a carbonated drink. If I quit drinking them will my pouch shrink back up like our stomachs use to do when we would diet on our own. Is there any sort of weird test I can do at home to see what I have done. I am desperate. HELP!

Hello everyone. I'm back. I have not been doing very well. I have been having a lot of trouble with urinating post surgery. I didn't give it a lot of thought because I know that I am very sensitive to catheters and it takes me a while to get back to normal. I also didn't think a lot about it because I have been on antibiotics for a sinus infection so I figured I was covered. WRONG. I started having unbelievable swelling in my legs. I'm talking about they where so swollen I couldn't bend my knees, ankles or I couldn't even wiggle my toes. I could barely walk due to the pain in my lower extremities. I felt like my skin was going to split open. Then along with all of that was this excruciating lower back pain. No pain medication in the world would help with the pain. I was taking lasix like tic tacs with not much happening. Finally after my third doctor finally did a urine specimen and they called and said that I had a bladder infection. I couldn't believe it. I mean I have been on three different antibiotics since my surgery trying to kill this sinus infection and none of those would work for a bladder infection. Anywho after my second dose of the right antibiotic the swelling started coming down and I was able to urinate on my own without having to get in all kinds of different positions just to eek out a little drizzle. Just had to share my story I don't know why. Thanks for reading. It has also put me in a very down place. I just feel like.......

I have had the same problem. One day I can eat something and it settle just fine. Then I can try that same thing the next day and it will make me miserable. What am I talking about sometimes it is the same day. I can eat something for lunch and it's yummy and settles great. Then comes dinner time and I try to eat the same thing and I get sick as a dog. I also went through a stage where I was able to eat just about anything I wanted and then just like you my pouch decided otherwise and it seemed like I had to start all over again with my liquids and build back up my tolerance for solid foods. It is very frustrating but I try to stay positive and just keep looking at the scale even though it seems to be at a stall right now.

This weekend I was very brave. I made myself a veggie sandwich. It was out of this world. The different textures and flavors of all the different veggies was a party for my taste buds. I used a seven grain bread sliced very thin and toasted. I had iceberg lettuce, spinach, olives, red onion, avocado, and tomatoes. Just a smidgen of mayo and a splash of red wine vinegar. It took me a while to eat the whole thing but it was well worth it. This has been the first thing that has awakened my taste buds and sat well in my pouch all at the same time.

I am also having a problem getting in all of my protein. So the last time I went to the doctor, I purchased a can of Unjury unflavored protein powder. You can put it in anything. It doesn't change the taste or the consistency of what you are eating or drinking. It is a wonderful addition to my kitchen where I wage the war of protein every day. Lol

I had my surgery on the south shore at Crescent City surgical hospital. I had the gastric sleeve surgery originally in September and did well for about two weeks. Then I started having horrid acid reflux. Something that I had never had before. So found out that I had a sliding hiatal hernia so I had surgery in October to have that fixed which they hoped was going to cure the acid reflux. Did pretty good for about two weeks and it all started back again with a vengeance. They put me on 40mg of nexium twice daily and 150mg of zantac twice daily. The medication didn't even touch the reflux. It really started getting bad when I started aspirating the gastric acid every night sometimes more than once a night. That was very scary and painful. My doctor said sometimes the pressure that is in the sleeve can cause excessive gastric acid production. So the only choice I had was to convert to a full gastric bypass. This surgery has been a blessing. I have not had any more problems since this surgery.

Well this is probably not good advice but I too tend to stay nauseated a good bit of the time. I also have to be very careful because I can get busy and not eat all day. I don't realize it until I'm about ready for bed then I don't want to eat that late. So I don't have any good advice but I am going through similar situations.

Hi there. I'm from the North Shore. I had the gastric sleeve surgery in September of 2013. Had a few complications and was revised to a RNY in December 2013. Just wanted to introduce myself to the group.

Wow! That was very encouraging and inspiring. Words that I needed to hear right now. Thank you for that.

Yes, my nut also said stay away from red meat except for very lean hamburger meat. She said the same thing about veggies and fruit to peel them if they had skin. I wasn't told anything about the types of lettuce to eat. I just chose the types that I used to like to eat. She did say to remove the stalks of the spinach if I used that in my salads. It is very interesting to read how different the doctors are with their diet advances.
-
I started off with my salads very slow and very small portions to see how it would feel in my pouch. I started out with butter lettuce and baby spinach leaves with the stalks removed. I am getting ready to try them again soon. I hope that I am able to enjoy them since the RNY.

I used to love chicken. Even when I had my sleeve surgery in September I could eat chicken. Now since I have had the RNY, as soon as I swallow the chicken I am miserable and it is going to come right back up. I know that there was some discussion about salads. When I had my sleeve surgery I enjoyed my salads very much. It did take baby steps to get there. Since I have had the RNY surgery I have yet to try my salads again.

My surgery was on December 10th. I still have trouble with meats like that. I try to stick with fish and shrimp. I can usually eat hamburger meat. That just depends on the day. Some days the meat will settle just fine. Then another day I can eat the exact same thing and it will get hung up in my chest and then I go running to the bathroom because I know it's coming up and out. I also find deli meat easy to go down. I like to make a wrap with a spinach tortilla. I also put a rump roast in the crock pot and let it cook for about 10 hours on low. It just falls to pieces and it is very moist. Sometimes I will take some of that meat and gravy and put it in a wrap as well.

I don't know if that is her tolerance level for now, but I can usually eat two eggs.

I like to make an omelet. Just a pinch of cheese, onion, bell pepper, spinach, mushrooms, and a little tomato. Really good and juicy because of the veggies. Here lately for breakfast I have also been trying cream of wheat but with a little extra milk added to it to thin it up. You can add some fresh fruit to it or cinnamon and sweetener of some sort. Yummy. Also I came across this cereal that is mainly seeds. Pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds and a few more I can't remember. It is very good. Sometimes I will sprinkle a little of the cereal in my greek yogurt for a texture. Yummy.

Just take it slow. Stay away from steak and chicken breast for a while. To hard to digest. I eat a lot of steamed veggies and baked fish. I also eat shrimp. I just get scared of the amount I feel I can eat some days.

Thank you for the kind words. It is really great having this site where we can lean on each other in our time of need yet be a rock for others when they need help.

I don't drink anything that is not diet. I only allow myself one of those a day. The rest of my fluid intake is protein drinks and water. Except right now I do have this unusual craving for orange juice and oranges. Thanks for watching out for me. I could never do anything to ruin this blessing of this surgery.

I don't think so. I was never told that. They just said that the carbonation could make me very uncomfortable in the beginning. Right out of surgery I had my husband get me a sprite and I took the smallest baby sips. It was fantastic. Yes it did cause a little of discomfort but burping helped. After I was discharged I would let the soft drinks go a little flat before I would drink them to help with the discomfort. Now I can just drink them with no problem.
-
I thought it was just me. I have been having the same thing. I would break a sweat doing the smallest thing and it was so embarrassing for me. I was always hot blooded. Turn the air conditioning down at night and sleep with two fans. Now instead of my family complaining of how cold it was in the house while they were all dressed like Eskimos, they are complaining about how hot it is like they are dressed to go to the beach and I am wrapped up like an Eskimo.

My thing is eating. I'm not hungry so I don't eat. I know this is bad. I have to try to fix this problem. It's my old thought process of if you are not hungry then don't take in extra calories that you don't need. But some days I can go all day without eating.
