Dr. Sarker placed my lap-band almost a year ago (8/2/07). I've had ups and downs-- most of them had to do with me changing my mindset-- but I am so glad I did it. I'm down 75 pounds, and recently, my BMI changed from obese to overweight. I've never been happier to be overweight! I'm about 30 pounds from goal. The closer I get to goal, the harder it gets! Anyway, I was happy with Loyola, and continue to be a patient there for reasons other than the lap-band. Wait, does that make it sound like I'm sick? No, I just see a dermatologist, ob/gyn, family doctor, etc. Also, on the rare occasion I had difficulty-- my own fault I took a regular sized Vitamin and it got stuck!-- she was very responsive. Let me know what questions you may have!

I's love to join you guys, too. I've got kind of a complicated schedule on Tuesday and Wednesday with all of the back to school hoopla-- I teach second grade. I could do Tuesday after 4:00pm or Wednesday anytime before 3:00pm. Honestly, if another time works best for you all, I won't be offended if I can't make it. There's always next month

Hi everyone, well I made it through surgery without any problems. The first few days home were rough but my family took good care of me. Now I've got another week to rest up before I have go to school-- I teach second grade-- and start getting ready for the school year. Gina, it's nice to meet another patent of Dr. Sarker's. Aside from the message boards, I've never met anyone with a Lap Band, let alone someone who had the same surgeon as me That being said, I was thinking of attending the "Life After Lap Band" support group at Loyola. I think it's on the 4th Monday of the month. Just wondering if you know anything about the group. Take care!

It's official, I'll be banded on Thursday, August 2nd at Loyola! I'm now on a 7 day liquid diet which is not fun! Let's see, a little about myself... I'm 29, single, bought my first home (well, condo) last summer, like to read... I don't know what more to say about myself. Any words of wisdom as I prepare for surgery?

 Hi ladies! I just stumbled on here because someone on ObesityHelp.com mentioned lapbandtalk in their post. So nice to find some locals! I live in Oak Park. I had my first consultation for the band in Jan 2006 with Dr. Shayani at Loyola and completed most of my preoperative testing then, too. I bought my first home and got caught up with life in general and didn't seek approval from my insurance company until the fall. After numerous appeals (never gave up), BCBSIL approved me at the end of June. The glitch? Dr. Shayani left Loyola for Day One Health (same day surgery center on Michigan Ave). I feel more comfortable having it done at Loyola so Dr. Sarker will be performing my surgery. I met with her yesterday and she said I could be banded as soon as next Thursday! Wow! I'm an elementary school teacher so the sooner I can have the surgery, the better. I'll keep you updated once I get a date. I'd love to join you all for one of your Panera get-togethers. It would be nice to meet experienced bandsters in the area!
