How Long Does It Take To Get Approved?
1Day1Life4Now replied to ccaramel27's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was told that it takes 2 - 4 weeks for approvals to come back from the insurance companies, depending on which one you have. I have read about a few people that got their approvals in about a week but most people say between 2 - 4 weeks. I wish you lots of luck. I too am waiting on a scheduled date. -
Rena, I can so totally relate to your post. I had no idea how long it would take to go through this process. I started trying to get an appointment back in September and then got an appointment for the seminar in October. My first appointment with the Dr was Oct 31st and here it is November 18th. I just got paperwork in the mail to complete for surgery. I had already completed about 10 pages at the previous visit so I am not sure why all the duplication. I have met with the nutritionist one time and I guess I am on my own for the 3 month pre op diet. I was hoping they would schedule me for all of my pre op tests this month or in Dec since my deductible has already been met. But so far..nothing. I guess I'll be scheduled for those in January and it will cost me more money out of pocket since the insurance companies are decreasing benefits and upping the costs. Jeeeeez, it is so frustrating. Good luck to you.

Is It Possible To Get Approved Without A Supervised Weight Loss Program?
1Day1Life4Now replied to azjanie's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Federal BCBS and I am required to do the 3 month diet plan which I am doing now. I met with the Nutritionist and now I am just keeping a diary of what I am eating and each time I go to the doctor I will see the nutritionist. She told me it isn't required that I actually lose a lot of weight on the pre diet but I must show documentation of attempting to lose for 3 months. I was quite miffed at first but the time actually goes by rather quickly. My Surgeon told me it takes 3 months to get all the pre-surgery work done anyway so it's not really a big deal. Just do the diet and maybe you won't need it but if you do... you are on your way. Good luck to you. -
Crossfit And My Sleeve

I've seen the term CrossFit in a few places but I am unsure of what it is. Can you give an explanation? I am in my 50s, do you think it is something I can do? -
Hi All, I am from the Jackson Mississippi area. I have not had surgery yet but I am going through the preliminary process. I am using Dr. Erin Cummins and I am currently finishing up month 1 of my 3 month pre-surgery diet as required by the Insurance Company. I would love to converse with those going through the process and those who have already been through it. I know there are some people out there but where are you??? Would love to hear from you, get your advice and guidance and have some emotional support through this difficult time. Take care my fellow Sleevers and I'll be waiting to hear from you. Janet

Feb 2014 Surgery?
1Day1Life4Now replied to jamie99d's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello All. My date has not been positively scheduled yet but we're looking at February 11th. My surgeon only does surgery on Tuesdays. I'm still doing all of my preliminary medical visits and just started my mandatory 3 month pre-operation diet. I am located in Mississippi and I'm looking for surgery buddies to help me through this process. Janet -
Anyone else using Transformations in Flowood, Mississippi?
1Day1Life4Now replied to Crissy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Ladies. I'm using Dr Cummins as well. I've just got started in the process and met with my Nutritionist last week. I was under the impression that everything would be done at Baptist Hospital. Why are the rest of you Cummins patients doing it at CMMC? I've started my mandatory 3 month supervised diet prior to surgery. I have Federal BCBS and I know they will approve the surgery but I still have to jump through the hoops. Waiting on my appointment for my colonoscopy and the other stuff. Looking at this time life I suspect my surgery will be scheduled for February. I can't wait. I'm in the Jackson area and Im glad to see some Mississippi folks finally posting on here. Janet -
I am impressed.. You have done a great job. Your hard work really shows. I can't wait till my surgery and till I'm on the same path.

Sleevers In Jackson, Mississippi

You ladies really seem to have it together. I feel so totally lost like this is all so complicated. This whole business is very over whelming. Good luck to both of you. I can't wait to hear how both of you do with the surgery. As far as being in the hospital 2 nights.... I agree with you. I would rather be at the hospital in case something goes wrong. Surely by the third day we'll know that it is all working and can go home safely. -
Thanks for the response Elsnanny, I went to the seminar on Tuesday and submitted my paperwork so I am assuming they sent it over on Wednesday Oct 16th. Maybe I'll hear something in the early part of the week. I have Federal BCBS so they are fairly easy to deal with and they do cover the WLS. I have a BMI of 45 and I have severe sleep apnea, GERD, and arthritis so it should be pretty straight forward. I was just wondering how long it would take them to approve and send back to the surgeon's office. I will be cautiously optimistic and hope for some time this week. I wish I could have my surgery in December too as that is an easy time for me to take off of work. Stay tuned and hopefully all will go as planned. Janet

Sleevers In Jackson, Mississippi
1Day1Life4Now replied to SLEEVEDNBEAUTIFUL's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just found your post. Nov 4 th is just around the corner. congratulations. I am so happy to hear you are with Dr. Cummins as well. My insurance requires a 3 month supervised diet before surgery so I put myself on a high protein low fat diet the ni ght after I went to the seminar. Not only will it help me lose some weight but maybe it will cut off some waiting time before surgery. I didn't want to wait until my real consultation to start as I am eager to get the process started. I live in Ridgeland so I am hoping there will be a support group in Madison area but if not I'll be happy to go to one down town. i know its difficult for the medical staff to be in multiple places. So how is the pre-op diet working for you? Can you tell if you've lost weight? I think I can do the 2 shakes and the lean cuisine prior to surgery. That's very doable. I may alter the diet I am on now and try that one in order to get used to it. Take care and I wish you luck on the surgery. Janet -

Hello all, I have an appointment with Dr. Cummins but not scheduled surgery yet. I have a question, Does Dr. Cummins make you diet before surgery? If so, why bother if one is going to be losing all that weight after the surgery ? How long does it generally take from first appointment until surgery actually happens? I am so ready to get this process started. Thanks for any answers.swsea untiu? ??????ery WhIIiII
