Welcome Slmwo, congratulations on your surgery. You're right, this is an awesome site. The members here are all so wonderful and very smart. I have learned more on this website than from anywhere. The actual experiences of others are more informative than any book you could read. Good luck in your journey.

    Best post op diet?

Did you mean you are getting sleeved? I was confused by your post.
  6. Claim it girl!!!! Sounds to me this surgery did more than remove 85% of your stomach. Sounds like the doctor must have left some fortitude, self-discipline, self-esteem, and some MOXEY where your stomach used to be. Its admirable that you have done so much for your husband but it sounds like your entire marriage has been one of you being the nurse-maid to him. This is your year to get healthy physically, psychologically and emotionally. Don't let others derail you. Proud of you!!!

    Hey I'm New Here!

Hi Ryan and welcome to the Forums. This is a wonderful place with some very supportive positive people that understand the struggles, the ups and the downs. They also have some wonderful solutions to many problems pre-op and post-op. You will be happy you found this group. I am 1 week pre-op and Im on the liquid diet too but I don't find it that difficult. I LOVE these protein shakes.I think they taste good and there is no cooking involved and no dishes to wash. What can I say...it gives me time to do other things. lol Anyway, we're here for you.

Changed my Life - For the Better

Thanks so much for this post. It is good therapy for my pre-surgery jitters. Its so nice to hear that about the dreams of others coming true and that you are living healthy and happy. My GP was all for my surgery and am thankful for her support. Have you ever thought about going to your former GPs to show them what they tried to prevent? They were making decisions out of ignorance and that is a shame for someone in the medical community. Thanks again for the encouragement.
  10. Hi Gary, I'm being sleeved on Monday Feb. 10th. I can't wait. I would love to share the process with you. Just PM me. Have you completed all of your preliminary hurdles? I'm on my pre-op diet and getting all of my post-surgery supplies together. One more week to go.... it's been a long awaited surgery for me. What is your story?

pain in back to lower knee :(

sounds to me like it could be your sciatic (sp?)nerve. You need to see a doctor that specializes in back pain so it can be addressed. This can happen at any weight so just losing weight will not cure it. You may need shots in your bank to reduce the inflammation and only then will you get any relief. The longer you put it off....the longer you will hurt. Good luck.

    BCBSTX

I have BCBS of Mississippi and though they told me they require 30 days for approval, They returned mine in less than a week. No problems at all, I just made sure I had finished all of the requirements ahead of time.

    Food Funeral

Hi Jen, my doctor doesn't make us do full liquids pre-op. I do a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and then a healthy dinner at around 400 calories. I can also have 2 sugar free snacks so that is pretty satisfying. I'll either eat a protein bar or eat a SF jello or pudding. I've pretty much been doing this for a month so Im good with it. I just do full clear liquids the day before surgery. I am really excited about this. The unknowns are scary but I want to lose this weight so badly that I will do what ever I have to do to get it off. I'm tired of being fat, tired of being unhealthy, and tired of being tired. Monday, February 10th can't come fast enough!!! Good luck with yours and hope you get a surgery date soon.

Did you keep it a secret?

This is a great topic for discussion and one that has been asked a few times so we know it really is an "issue". I am a private person and don't feel the need to share my medical information with others. I have included my husband and my daughter into my "circle of trust" and I have told a bit to my best friend who lives 1000 miles away. Ive not told any of my family members (parents, siblings, nieces, nephews) and I haven't told anybody that I work with. I am not ashamed. In fact I am excited and overjoyed at this opportunity which will take place a week from Monday.(Feb 10th yayyy) I know too many people that will say negative comments and I don't wish to hear any of those comments. Also, I don't want to be the subject of conversation for others that don't have anything better to talk about. Regardless of how kind and supportive people can be to our face, they will use our situation as topic of conversation with others. I hate gossip and don't want to be involved with it. Now, if people wish to talk about me when I'm thin and hot... well, that's another story. lol

    Protein water?

I guess we are all watching the Shark Tank because I also saw the segment on Protein Water. I will be going to Walgreens tomorrow to buy the Protein Water. It's got to be cheaper than Isopure.

    scared

Hi Christina, I understand some of those feelings. I am having my surgery on Feb. 10th. I suppose it is thinking about the permanency of the surgery that has me a little freaked out but then at the same time it's reassuring. I don't want to continue unhealthy eating patterns and want to eat right for the rest of my life. I just hope it will be easier than what I'm hearing it is starting out. Good luck and hope all goes well.

    I JUST WANT TO SAY

Thanks for posting this. I get my sleeve a week from Monday so I get excited when I see positive posts like this.

why do i still feel so sad.

Nancy, sounds like you need to get out and do a little walking and get some fresh air. It will make you feel better. Don't stress over this process, save your energy for positive behavior that makes positive changes in your life. You will be fine.

    Weight History

Give them copies of what ever you have. If they won't accept it they will let you know. This particular requirement is utterly ridiculous.

    Surviving when life sucks

Southernsoul, I am sending you hugs and offering up prayers for your aching heart. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. We just never know from day to day what life will throw at us. Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us and to allow us to grieve with you. Thank you too for your words of wisdom and guidance that will help us to put life in perspective, and to remember that even though we're going through a life experience (WLS) that tends to make us self absorbed, we all need to treasure our loved ones while we still have them. May your husband's memory be eternal and you find consolation in those happy and special memories.

5 days and Im freaking out

I think it is pretty normal. Mine is in 12 days and I'm excited too. Of course we wouldn't be normal if we were a little nervous... any kind of surgery is scary so why not this too? Good luck to you and keep your eye on the prize and all will be fine.
