Does your spouse know how much you weigh?
1Day1Life4Now replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I started looking into surgery my husband was against it. When I told him how much I weighed, he changed his way of thinking and knew that I was serious about this weight loss. He then jumped on board and supports me at each and every pound. We've been married for 35 years. We met when I was a petite 21 year old and has seen me gain every pound. So why shouldn't I share the weight and the weight loss with him? After being married this long there isn't that much he doesn't know about me. -
I ate a solid too early...need ideas to be prepared. Please help...
1Day1Life4Now replied to MN_Thin0211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
MN_Thin, I am also 10 day out. I'm still liking the Atkins Shakes and my cream of tomato soup (with skim milk) is awesome. Not a fan of the clear broth. Please stay on your diet as your Doctor has directed. My doctor is letting me start the Puree stage on Sunday. I can't wait because I'm hungry too. I bought the book Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies. It has a bunch of recipies and ideas for food at the pureed stage and the soft food stage as well as recipes for the forever diet. Go get one of these books and you will learn how to add variety and taste to your diet. This will make a difference and you won't feel so helpless. Let me know how it goes. Good luck to you. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! -
My surgery date has been approved for march 20th! Any pointers out there for before and after ?
1Day1Life4Now replied to missdeleon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ohhh that gave me a much needed laugh. It's been a rough week. Your original post could be helpful for some I suppose but only the basics are needed for the hospital stay. Some easy to slip on slippers so you can walk the halls. A hospital helper to help you. My daughter was a God send. The chap stick is most helpful. I brought a little notebook and my daughter wrote down everything the nurses and doctors mentioned in their visits as I was so heavily medicated I couldn't remember much. I purchased the book Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies and Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies. They are awesome and help so much with the diet as it offers variety and ideas you can't get anywhere else. I highly recommend them. Congratulations on getting a date. Watch your spell check and visit here often so we'll know how you are coming along. -
Hi Gruiz, I just 11 days post surgery and I've not had the problem of nausea. We learned in class that if nausea is not associated with the anesthesia, medications, or Vitamins then it could be something more serious such as an obstruction (have you eating something you shouldn't), an ulcer, or low blood sugar. If you are two weeks out and the nausea has just started in the last couple of days, I would suspect low blood sugar from not eating at regular times, calorie intake too low. What do you think it is? If you can't pinpoint one of these things I've listed, then call your surgeon or go to the ER. Going to the ER might be a good thing anyway as they can give you a drip that will make you feel better. Remember, you must eat (or drink) your calories to keep your blood sugar up and to feel better. Good luck and let us hear from you. Janet

Survey - Carbonated Drinks? Do u drink them?
1Day1Life4Now replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, gave them up last year and not missing them one bit. In fact the thought of drinking of them is a real turn off. -
what protein powder is best suggested to add to anything? Any that are unflavored?
1Day1Life4Now replied to kitch101's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
unjury is definitely the best. Unjury.com They have a package with multiple trial size items so you can see what you like without spending a lot of money. -
7 days down, 7 days to go
1Day1Life4Now replied to CubsWinCubsWin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Cubs, you have done great so far so just keep on keeping on. The surgeons tell you to use the Bariatric Advantage because they know the nutrients and Protein are in there. Doing a few Soups will not hurt you...you will continue to lose weight which will be a great advantage after surgery. I highly recommend the book, Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies. It has great recipes for all stages and shares a lot of information for healing and eating real food. Good luck and keep up the good work. -
Any February 2014 Sleevers?
1Day1Life4Now replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Superfab you will do great. Regardless of what kind of surgery we might have... those first 4 or 5 days are terrible so why should this one be any different? Right? Let us hear from you when you feel up to posting. I'll say a pray for you. -
Embarrassing Question - What To Tell Casual Friends
1Day1Life4Now replied to Karen W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Im with you on the privacy thing Karen. I've been on a diet for a few months now and everyone at work is used to it, I took a week off work, called in with the flu so no one would try to stop by and see me. I am 1 week post op and I feel great and am going back to work tomorrow. People can watch how I eat and they will see how I lose weight. The surgery is none of their business. If you have to tell them you had surgery than go with the hiatal hernia and ulcer. They should all understand that. Good luck and happy weight loss. Janet -

Where are the Mississippi Sleevers?
1Day1Life4Now replied to 1Day1Life4Now's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Melinda, I was in Tupelo over the Christmas Holidays. Lovely town, Congratulations on getting your surgery date. I didn't think the pre-op diet was hard either but I didn't want to quit eating all of my favorite foods. I am 1 week post op and doing pretty good save for the one sore incision spot on my stomach. Each day is a significant improvement and I will be going back to work tomorrow. The surgery itself kicked my butt and I had immediate buyers remorse but by Friday I was all on board again. I think that is pretty normal. I am still very hesitant about social situations but the rest of it is pretty easy and straightforward. Follow the rules given by the surgeon and you lose weight and the rainbows will appear and butterflies will fly. Or something like that. Anyway, it is a very doable plan if one sets their mind to it. Good luck and let us know how you do with surgery. -
I have used pressure cookers for years and I love them. Just make sure you read the directions on your particular model and learn to cool it down before taking the top off. We don't want any explosions I make home made chicken Soup in mine and it takes maybe an hour where it would take hours cooking the conventional way. The meat and veggies get so tender and the taste is delicious. I've bought some cheap cuts of meat and cooked them in the pressure cooker and they are so tender you can cut them with a fork, And as some of the others have said, the nutrients are still in the food. You will love it. Janet

5 Months Post Op and I am so far off path.. I need help. I don't know where to start?
1Day1Life4Now replied to Heather Meyer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
to start losing weight go back to basics as you were taught in your classes with the liquids / Protein shakes. Make an appointment with a Therapist that has experience with people and food addictions and especially someone who deals with WLS patients. Then get yourself into therapy, Your body can't be in the game unless your head is in the game. You have already admitted you need help, now go get it. In the mean time the rest of us are here and will be happy to talk out whatever problems you are having. You are not alone, we all have problems and understand how easy it is to turn to food. What is bothering you, what has pushed you so far off track? -
Any February 2014 Sleevers?
1Day1Life4Now replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow, I am glad to say I am back among the living. The surgery on Feb. 10th kicked my butt big time. I ended up staying in the hospital and extra day due to having so much lung congestion. I was on breathing treatments around the clock and I was in a lot of pain. I came home last Thursday and each day has shown significant improvement. I started on the full liquids on Sunday and that made a tremendous difference. Of course my appetite came back so it was much easier to get the fluids and shakes down. I had 6 incisions and all are doing well except for one which is very very painful. I keep having sharp cutting pains when I move quickly or try to pull my self out of the recliner or bed. Other than that I now feel terrific and I have started walking my 30 minutes per day. I am going back to work tomorrow. For all of those about to have surgery, don't worry, you can do this. The first few days I kept thinking WTH have I done to myself but now on my 1 week anniversary... I feel positive and motivated. Life is good. Janet -
x-posted - So disappointed - WWYD?
1Day1Life4Now replied to nhandy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i had to pay my $500 up front before they would even send anything over for insurance approval. I thought it was odd but I paid it and everything else went smoothly. Sometimes the doctor's office wants to know you are serious about getting this surgery and if you are serious enough to put down the money up front, they know you probably won't back out after they have jumped through all the hoops , doing all of that paper work and have you a surgery date. I don't think they keep the money if you don't have surgery. Either way, you have to think about how serious you are in having the surgery and what are you willing to do to make it happen? Also, any doctors you have been to in the last two years have records of what you weighed. They can submit those records as proof of your weight history. Good luck to you and hope you can make the decision that is right for you. Janet -
Has anyone tried Isopure Protein Drinks?
1Day1Life4Now replied to Aunt GG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried a couple of flavors of the isorpure and I couldn't stomach them. If you can add something to them to improve the flavor it might be a good idea to try them since they are so high in Protein. I drink Atkins Protein shakes and the Premier Protein shakes and I like them pretty well, I would rather have a juicy steak , steamed veggies and a baked potato but since i know I can't I drink the shakes and follow the diet. So far so good, I'm losing. -
Phase 2 soups? Full Liquids
1Day1Life4Now replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also 1 week post op and have started the full liquid diet. I had no restrictions on the cream of anything soups. Just don't eat any of the stuff floating in there. It is so much more substantial than the clear broth so it is more satisfying. I'm also eating apple sauce, pudding, Jello, and grits and of course my Protein drinks. Each person's surgery is different and each Surgeon has a different recovery process. But they all say..... sip, sip, sip those fluids. LOL -
Help, positive help needed
1Day1Life4Now replied to eyoung's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi eyoung. This surgery is very difficult as are the life changes so its not uncommon for us to become depressed and make poor choices. We've always self medicated with food and that is what we are comfortable with. Tomorrow is another day and you can start over with your protein shakes and then get back on the diet, You can do this!!!! Get your mind back on track by figuring out why you had this surgery and what your goal is. You are the master of your journey. -
Day two post op
1Day1Life4Now replied to Sarah Waring2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may just be the age difference but I've not come through as well. I am sore all over, and I'm having a hard time getting in the water and the protein. I have no appetite at all. Im hoping this part will all soon be a bad dream and I'm able to eat again very soon. -
My surgery was Monday and I am having problems with getting the water and the nutrition down. How long till I feel normal??? I have some isopure...will give a try.
-
Two more days on the pre-op diet and then Sunday nothing but clear liquids and then that lovely " cleanse". Atleast it will be the easier Gatorade cleanse. Monday is the big day for me and I am so excited about my sleeve. I am ready for this and I am praying that all will go well for the surgery and I will have an easy recovery. For the rest of you out there who are having surgery on Monday. Sending you prayers and hugs and hoping all goes well for you. Happy Losing to all you.

95 lbs is a lot of weight in just 9 short months so you should be very proud of yourself. I am impressed. Be patient and the rest will come off. You have done an awesome job so far so I know you will continue to do a good job.

Thank you for sharing Rhonda. I'm being sleeved in the morning. I have so many questions about my future eating habits. I look forward to losing the weight though.
