Where are the Mississippi Sleevers?
1Day1Life4Now replied to 1Day1Life4Now's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Msj9, I just saw your post today. Anytime you are in Jackson let me know. I would love to meet up with you. Did you have your surgery in Jackson? I am 4 weeks out and still learning my way through this process but doing very well. Who was your doctor? Hope to hear from you. Janet -
Where are the Mississippi Sleevers?
1Day1Life4Now replied to 1Day1Life4Now's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Bethjcamp, congratulations and welcome to the site. The advice I would give to you is to start that pre surgery diet as soon as possible and start exercising NOW. It will make the recovery process easier and will jump start your weight loss which makes everything much easier. The second advice I would give you is to follow your doctor's advice to the letter and you will be successful. I wish I had done this surgery when I was younger. You will be so pleased. Good luck to you. Janet -
Lynn, I had tears rolling down my face when I read your post. I did the exact same thing when my best friend passed away from breast cancer. It changed my life forever. Our husbands were best friends, our kids were best friends, we went to church together, we celebrated holidays together....then she died and everything changed. I was in denial when she got sick and was in shock when she died... it took so long to find a sense of normalcy again but it did come eventually with time. Yeah, you are going to miss her a lot and that empty hole in your heart is going to seem so vast but through the grief process you will learn to fill that hole with new relationships and new experiences. That doesn't mean you will ever forget her...you will keep her with you forever but you will become more open to other friendships. It is so wonderful to have a friend in life that you have been able to love so deeply...many people never get that opportunity. It will get better with time but in the meantime...it is perfectly okay to cry. Keep talking to her because I bet she still hears you. Sending you healing hugs {{{{{ Lynn}}}}} Take care, Janet

How do you stop eating before becoming over full if you weren't hungry to begin with?
1Day1Life4Now replied to ugtalvt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eating once a day is terrible for weight loss as it will wreak havoc with your metabolism. The point of this diet is to eat three meals a day and keep your metabolism up so that calories will be burned throughout the day. You should eat within 90 minutes of getting out of bed regardless if you are hungry or not. You have to kick start that metabolism. If you measure your food to 3 or 4 oz. you will easily quit eating before you are full. Don't sabotage your diet with one meal a day, it will result in slow weight loss and you will become disillusioned with the process. You need to take vitamin throughout the day and you don't want to take those on an empty stomach. You may need a consult with your nutritionist. -

1Day1Life4Now replied to CrazyJaney's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello to all of you, There are always posts on here about complications, problems and regrets but they are few compared to the posts of success, excitement and happiness over the results of WLS. Right now you are more sensitive to those negative posts and that is okay. You have to be realistic and know that anybody could have complications, its just a possibility that comes with surgery. Statistically, chances are in your favor that everything will be okay but every once in awhile something happens. Be honest and open with your surgeons about any issues you have that might complicate the surgery so preparations can be taken before hand. If you have done your homework and you have prepared correctly you will have no problems with your surgery. Keep focused on the possibilities of better health, significant weight loss, more energy and a more active life style. Are the risks worth that? Only you can answer that question for yourself. Whatever you choose, I wish you luck. As for me, I will be 4 weeks out on Monday the 10th and I could not be happier. This is much easier than I thought it would be and I have no results. Best of luck and happiness to all of you. -
I love my hubby!
1Day1Life4Now replied to jtickle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Sounds like you have a keeper. Tell him how you feel, he needs to hear it and will love you more for telling him. The diet will be much easier with the hubby on board. Best of luck to the both of you. -

What will I REALLY need post op?
1Day1Life4Now replied to Bluesea71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I loved plain water prior to surgery but after surgery...hated the taste so I have to add flavor to my water. I do the crystal lite and Kool Aid now has the SF drops and you add to the water. I only buy spring water not the purified water. Anyway the kool aid makes the water much smoother going down. I couldn't make it without it. Good luck. -
What will I REALLY need post op?
1Day1Life4Now replied to Bluesea71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've heard the phrase "necessity is the mother of invention" right. You don't really need a whole lot and when you do need something.... you can make do with what ever you already have. So having said that...post op, you need measuring cups and a cheap food scale for convenience. You will need soups for the first couple of weeks, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, water, crystal light or kool aid flavoring for your water. Protein drinks come in handy as well but other than that you really don't need much more than what you already have at home. Once you have surgery and you are at home and discover a "need", that's the time to make the purchase. Don't invest in a lot of things you don't need or won't use. Your kitchen probably has everything you will need. -
Just found out my husband is trying to cheat!

Takingaleap..... stay strong. You deserve better and you don't have to settle for less. Take care. -
whats was your biggest challenge?
1Day1Life4Now replied to girliegirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with the previous poster. I feel I am always planning, preparing or eating and I can't ever go anywhere or do anything without having all of the logistics planned out. It's not impossible or anything but it is difficult and takes a lot of getting used to. -

Have you spoken with him? Maybe its something entirely innocent. Confront him in a non-threatening way and find out what is going on with that. Maybe things just need to be talked out. People make mistakes all of the time and when they are called out on it, they realize they can't act on the fantasy. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Don't let it derail you, stay strong and take care of yourself. -
Pain returned after 5 weeks
1Day1Life4Now replied to beme2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have them check to see if its not your gall bladder. Losing weight can cause gall stones and it can hurt in that area. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. -
congratulations. I went back to work after a week... you improve so quickly from day to day. The first days are pretty rough but after that... it just gets better each day. Good luck and hope you heal well and quickly.,
-
Oh great. I am so dreading this. I don't think there is any way around it but I've been told increasing protein and taking biotin supplements may help. Good luck to all of you and remember... it's a temporary situation. Or so they said.....

Girliegirl, for funsies I looked up my surgeon and the information was very outdated, by several years, so I'm not sure I would put a lot of stock in that particular research tool.

Congratulations. I had mine on Feb. 10th, so that was 3 weeks yesterday. Wow the changes in 3 weeks are unbelievable. How are you feeling? It gets better every day so hang in there. Can't wait to hear about your experience.

Recovery Time - Band vs Bypass
1Day1Life4Now replied to Kahuna's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the gastric sleeve and only took 4 days off from work. I'm feeling great and have lost 30 pounds in 3 weeks. I know you are considering the by-pass and the band but don't forget about the gastric sleeve. It's awesome. -
Sandee, so glad the worst part is over for you. I too had that horrible headache and I was kept an extra day as well. I was having respiratory problems and my pulmanologist was called in. I had breathing treatments every 4 hours till I left the hospital. They told me the headache was from the anesthesia so when I got home I didn't take any of the hydrocodone I had. This is definitely NOT EASY but it does get easier after the first two weeks. Sending up healing prayers for you. Take care, walk and sip sip sip sip sip.

Craving food
1Day1Life4Now replied to SweetPea1984's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Starting week 2 I have been hungry for real food. I miss my old comfort foods but I'm sticking to the diet. -
I was able to fit into a suit today that I haven't worn in 3 years. I got so many compliments today about how "slimming" it was on me. It was like getting new clothes... all I had to do was shop in my back closet where all my out grown clothes are hanging. I'm a happy camper.

Incredible shrinking legs
1Day1Life4Now replied to jujube's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jujube, I was sleeved on Feb. 10th and my weight loss has all been from the waist up. I can't tell that I've lost anything in my behind or legs. I'm ready to quit losing in the chest... omg, I hope I'm left with something there!!! I've just recently started exercising so maybe the bottom half of my body will start the weight loss process too. Good luck. -
I did have the cath and was so glad I did. I had a problem coming out of anesthesia and had one of those headaches from hell. With all of the pain meds I couldn't get out of bed till the next day. I needed the cath. I suppose every surgery is different and every surgeon does things differently. Its all good.

Wow, a lot of over achievers here. I did my mile walk today and was all I could do. Hopefully I will get better at this.
