With self pay the only wait you have is for when the surgeon can schedule your appointment. Good luck to you.

Steristrips?
1Day1Life4Now replied to Lindsayloo1103's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At the hospital they told me to leave them on and let them come off in the shower when they are ready. When I went to the doctor, she pulled them off and told me I should have pulled them off so they wouldn't irritate the skin. So who knows? I think whatever you do can be right or wrong but neither would be life threatening. I did keep putting Neosporin on my incisions and it helped with the itching and they healed very quickly. -
February Sleevers.... Check in!
1Day1Life4Now replied to Lulah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was Feb. 10th. I do have reflux for which I take Prilosec every morning. All 6 of the incisions are all healed, but the two biggest ones have divets in indentions which look rather odd. I'm hoping these go away with time. I go to my Dr. for my 6 week check up on Thursday. I can eat just about anything now except things like steak or sausage. I eat a lot of chicken and fish and a few veggies. Very few carbs. I still drink my protein shakes but not every day. They are good for getting in that extra bit of protein. I drink water all day, a little bit at a time but I still struggle with the 64 ounces. To tell you the truth, the most I've been able to get in is the 48 ounces. I only drink water with SF kool aid drops in it. NO fruit juice or anything else. I hit the 3 week stall but I'm back to losing again. My NSV are that I'm fitting in to smaller close from my other closets that I've not worn in years. People are beginning to notice my weight loss and making comments. I feel better and have more energy. I walk on the tread mill and ride the stationary bike twice per day and I always park at the back of the parking lot when I go shopping. I try to walk as much as I can within reason but I know I'm still healing and I do require a lot of rest. I still can't get use to how little I can eat. My brain still thinks I can and should eat more but my tummy is in control. Thank goodness for that. -
Nothing tastes good
1Day1Life4Now replied to jdillon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you taking any type of new medication? Sometimes medications can alter your sense of taste and smell which would definitely change the appeal of foods you once enjoyed. Surgery will probably change your likes and dislikes of food too. I used to be a coke-a=holic and quit them about 4months before surgery. It didn't stop my craving for them though. After surgery...no cravings for coke or anything carbonated. In fact the thought of drinking anything carbonated makes me queasy. It's funny how all this works. -
Bloated, acid reflux and still have wind
1Day1Life4Now replied to willow13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep, exactly. I had the same symptoms. I take Protonix/ Prilosec everyday first thing in the morning. It will help with the acid reflux. You might need to do this for 3 or 4 months. As far as the gas, the way to get rid of it is to start moving. You need to walk a couple of miles a day and it will make all the difference in the world. Maybe a mile in the morning and one in the afternoon. Your stomach is still swollen and tender inside so that is why your stomach seems larger than before. It's going to take at least 6 to 8 weeks after surgery for the swelling to be completely gone. Mine is still a tiny bit swollen but doctor says to give another week or two and I won't notice it. It's all a part of the healing process. Just go with the flow and you will be fine. -

Started eating more! Why
1Day1Life4Now replied to AR40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think everybody did this before surgery. I don't know why but it's almost like you lose control and have no will power. Fight it as much as you can. That pre diet is so important. It teaches you how to eat and helps with weight loss. -
Look how much im drinking 11 days post op!
1Day1Life4Now replied to lmdx0sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 weeks out and still can't do that. I'd be careful about that flavored tea. It may have caffeine and sugar and you definitely don't want that in a new stomach. Be careful what you take in so ... if it doesn't offer nutrition maybe you shouldn't. The rule of the sleeve is "just because you can doesn't mean you should". The fact that you are able to take in a lot of fluid is very ggood. You won't get dehydrated drinking that much. -
Good luck Cathy and ArixS. No need to be nervous. These doctors know what they are doing and you will be in good hands. The surgery takes 30 to 45 minutes and its over. Granted that first week is a bugger but after that its smooth sailing. You will soon be steadily losing and looking good.

Just decided to have bariatric lap band surgery
1Day1Life4Now replied to Sandra Lail's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't throw in the towel. You can do the research to find the answers to your questions. The band requires regular adjustments that can be costly so you might want to consider that when doing your research. Medicaid/Medicare will pay for the gastric sleeve too so check into that. The protein shakes you buy over the counter can be purchased at Walmart, Walgreens and Costco/SAM's. Any of the weight loss surgeries require healthy eating and healthy foods don't come cheap so you will need to commit to that. I am also in Ms and I had my sleeve done almost 5 weeks ago. I love it. Hope your daughter is doing well with her WLS program. Good luck to you. -

Lap Band or Gastric Sleeve?
1Day1Life4Now replied to EnergyTank's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The choice to do WLS is a good one. There are a number of surgeries out there and they are all good but different people have different needs. Speak with your doctor and discuss the benefits of all of them and see what would work best for your needs. I chose the gastric sleeve over the band because I did not want to fool with the band adjustments and the additional expense of maintaining the band. I am very happy with the sleeve but I'm just 4 1/2 weeks post surgery. I feel great and am so happy that I did it. Which ever one you choose, you will appreciate the better health that weight loss offers you. Good luck. -
Complications and no one seems to care!
1Day1Life4Now replied to AHealthierMeInside's topic in Rants & Raves
Oh wow, I am so sorry to hear you are having those problems and the clinic is not meeting your needs. Infections and open wounds should not be taken lightly as they can lead to other problems. Do you know a Nurse or Nurse Practitioner that you could see to help you keep a watch on that infection and get you some supplies? You might want to use your general practitioner. I know it is additional money but better to play it safe. Sometimes it pays to be the squeaky wheel and maybe the Bariatric Clinic will be more responsive. Please take care of yourself and be your own advocate. Hoping everything is well very soon. -
Every doctor's plan is a little different so check on the plan they gave you. My doctor let me start having scrambled eggs at 3 weeks. I can only handle one egg max.

Got my Date!
1Day1Life4Now replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on getting your date. It's going to be a big change towards better health. I'm almost 5 weeks out. I can't believe how time has flown by. After surgery you won't be able to pick up anything more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks. If you need to travel you will need to make sure there is always someone around to pick up and move your suitcase. Be careful because you don't want to tear lose or damage any thing on the inside. Let us hear from you and again, congratulations. -
I'm 4 1/2 weeks post op and my incisions are a bit tender still but overall the pain is gone. If you are still in pain you need to say something to your surgeon. Good luck.

I Dont Think Ya'll Are ready for this.
1Day1Life4Now replied to HotButterFly's topic in Rants & Raves
I had read that same article last week on line. The writer may have wanted to come off as non-condescending but I feel he was very much so. For him to assume what the runner was thinking, whether they be overweight or not is a bit presumptuous on his part. When we see someone running on the track that is thin and normal weight, is it okay to think and feel obnoxious things about them and then put it into writing? I don't think so. This writer is just looking for support in judging others and I'm not buying it. We don't need to be called "fatty" or anything else. We have names and we are doing the best we can with what we have. I prefer an article that is more positive and uplifting and shows support for those persons that have struggles with health and weight. But hey, that's just me. -
Kind of a pre op surgery question
1Day1Life4Now replied to nancytole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nooo, do not offer any personal medical information about yourself. This interview is to find out more information about your work experience, your work ethic and your skills. Talk about those things. When and if they offer you a job, that is when you tell them what your start date will be.. Which you should schedule for at least 2 weeks after surgery. Since they or their insurance are not paying for your surgery you do not owe them that information. What you do owe them once you have started is to let them know you recently had surgery and that you will have a couple of follow up doctor appointments. Make sure they will give you SL to make those appointments. They don't understand WLS and if you tell them in advance that you are having surgery, it could taint the hiring process against you. Please think this out before you do anything. -
OMG Willow, what a terrible scare that episode must have given you. Please do be careful and watch that incision very carefully. You do not want that infection to get any worse. Take it easy and let things heal up. No sense in rushing it. Will be sending you healing vibes across the pond.
