  1. If the 10-15 percent weight loss is required by insurance then that should be motivation enough. If you don't lose that amount by surgery does that mean the insurance will not pay for it??? I know it seems like a long time, and it is... but the sooner you start losing, the better it is for you. If you can lose a lot prior to surgery...it will be so much easier to get to what ever goal weight you want. Keep a calendar to check off days till surgery and accomplishments you make along the way. Though you can look at pictures of others who have lost weight for inspiration, you must reach down from within yourself to find the motivation. Good luck to you, you can do this.

    Hospital Bag

Take the least amount you can get by with. You will be so drugged after surgery that you won't want to play on that I-Pad. You will want to sleep, get up and walk, and sleep some more. Good luck and happy healing. The pillow, chap stick and heating pad sore most important. Beware, not all hospitals will allow you to use your own heating pad.

How long before you can work?

I agree with everything FitnFab just mentioned. I know photographers often carry multiple cameras at a time and have to move lights and other equipment. You won't be able to lift more than 10 pounds till 6 weeks post op. I was able to return to work after a week but I have an office job that requires very little physical work. Please remember that everybody's surgery and recovery is different and complications are very real, though rare. You can't plan who will and who won't have complications, so keep a plan B in your back pocket. I'm 6 1/2 weeks post op and my sleeve buddy from the hospital is still being fed through a stomach tube due to a blood clot he suffered after surgery. Not to scare you, but... complications really can and do happen. Wishing you luck and a great surgery and recovery.

    Upper stomach pain

Ohhh yeah. I've had gastritis for awhile and it does feel like your stomach is twisting. I still have reflux but the gastritis has not bothered me since surgery. Foods you eat bother the gastritis so since we eating selective foods... the gastritis is calmed down. Don't let this issue be the one that keeps you from having surgery. Its really a non-issue in the over all scheme of things.

    My Journey 5/14/2013

You are stressed over 3 pounds? That could very easily be water weight. You know how the diet works and what you should and should not eat. Get back on the program and lose what ever you have gained. You've done it before and you can do it again. Is there any way you can ride an incumbent bike for exercise? It will do just as much good as walking and is less stress on your hips. Address what is stressing you and make changes. Only you can decide what you want to do. Eat and gain weight vs. sticking to the diet and keeping weight off. You choose.
  9. Most of the people I have spoken with don't even discuss the Bougie size with their doctor. I know I didn't. But it doesn't really matter... the doctor uses what ever size they need to use....and we will lose weight regardless of what size they have used. I'm more concerned with what foods to eat and how much....as that is what causes the weight loss.
  10. Good luck. You will be losing weight soon and learning how to eat really good food.

    Blood work abnormal?

That's a question for your surgeon. I'd be worried about the elevated white blood count.

    Heartburn?

Take the Prevacid or whatever PPI was prescribed for you. That acid is a killer and can harm your stomach and make you feel miserable. Take the PPI and you will feel a noticeable difference.

    Taking it day by day!

The sooner you get off the pain meds the better off you will be. The pain meds will make you mentally tired and put you in a brain fog. The Gas X strips are good but you need to keep moving as that is what gets the gas out, the blood circulating, and you feeling better. When you are resting, try to make out your menus in advance so you won't have to think about what you will eat at each meal. The first 3 weeks are pretty tough because of your sensitive and tender new tummy but it really does get easier. I'm 6 weeks out and I other than losing weight and only eating small amounts, I'd never believe I had surgery. It's really great.

    who needs this?

Hmmm totally unprofessional on her part. I think I would be looking for a new Primary Care Physician after all this. Good luck on your surgery.

    So beyond frustrated

Lil nana, can you just go to a different Cardiologist? Don't you have to have the EKG and stress test? Have the new guy do it. I didn't have a cardiologist but called around till I found one that would do it quickly so I could meet this hurdle. Good luck to you.

    My new journey take 2

lexinicole, you are in the right place. You will get lots of support and lots of information here. This is the best site I've found for weight loss. The people keep it real and share the same problems we all have.

    Stats

Most people put their stats in their signature or they use the little tickers which are located in the Signature area of the post. If you do that, we can see your stats too.

    Insurance!

Have all your ducks in a row. Find out what the insurance requirements are and get them all done prior to the surgeon's office submitting anything. Don't give them a reason for denial.

    EGD

I had the EGD and the colonoscopy. I have GERD so the doctor wanted to make sure I had no ulcers or anything else that would cause problems with the surgery. I have seen posts on here where people mentioned they didn't have either, just the barium swallow. Each doctor is different and each patient is different so there isn't any one plan, just many variations. Anyway, other than the cost, the EGD is nothing.... you're asleep through the entire thing.

    Just getting started

Hi Knitlil09, welcome to the group and congratulations on making your decision. I'm newly sleeve 6 weeks but I am so happy about my decision. I was overweight my entire adult life and I was up and down with various diets. I am excited about the permanency of the sleeve because I don't want to be a yoyo dieter ever again. If you are ready for a life style change, this is the surgery for you. I wish you all the luck and hope you will be active in the forum. This is a support group, as well as a source of information. It's a great site. I love it.

    Now what?

Since you had your approval and surgery a wk and a half later. Did your job give you any problems taking off so soon/suddenly? .. I was wondering if 2 was is adequate time to give job notice. .I plan on taking FMLA for 3-4 wks.. Re, I only took one week off for my surgery. I have a desk job and as a supervisor I can do a lot of delegating for things I felt like I wasn't physically up to. (a perk I guess). I had no complications and everything went well so I really didn't need more than a week off. Anyway, the day I found out about the approval, I scheduled a week of leave and my boss was fine with it. If there had been an issue, I could have scheduled the surgery for 2 weeks after the day I selected but since I was going to have to travel for work in a month post surgery...I wanted it over with so it making traveling easier. Good luck to you.
