    Just Beginning

You might be able to use your Weight Watchers weight loss as record for your supervised weight loss. Keep calling the insurance company until you get someone that knows the policy. Don't let them discourage you or steal your joy. If WLS is what you want then be persistent and go for it. I am so happy that I stuck with it. I love my sleeve.

    Hello everyone....had complications

Those first 2 or 3 weeks can be difficult but it does get much much better. You will soon be eating real food and feeling so much better. What you are feeling is pretty normal, a lot of us have been there. Give yourself some time and try to have patience. This time next month you will be singing a whole new tune.

Beautiful transformation. Sounds like you have the secret to weight loss so you will make it to whatever weight you choose to be. Congratulations.

    is this normal?

Oh yeahhhhh. Everyone feels the same way, same feelings, same fears. But it's good... just part of the process !!! Congratulations.

Lets Speak Up............There Is Always A Way

I agree with @@LumpySpacePrincess, assigning labels to food only serves to complicate things for dieters. Food is either nutritious or its not, we choose which ones we eat. By assigning a label to the food, it then labels us and with the struggles we already face, being labeled is the last thing we need. I was not offended by the picture but I was offended by the statement that Parisshel made that the woman looked mentally impaired, again another unnecessary label The woman is obviously obese and carries a lot of her weight in her face, by no fault of her own. The photo was tongue in cheek...She had chips on both her shoulders, temptation whichever way she turns. I agreed with some of the items on the list and disagreed with others but all in all a good article.

10 Days With No Food. Lord!

I was on the 2 week diet prior to surgery too but I was allowed a frozen dinner of less than 300 calories at night until 2 days pre surgery. Not much one can add to the minimum diet.... but think about how much weight you will lose pre-op... which is fabulous cause it puts you ahead of the game post op. Good luck.
  7. Hi LynRN, Sending you hugs and praying for you today. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom very unexpectantly a few years ago. She was a nurse, never sick and she suddenly had a heart attack and was gone. There was no preparation... I was in shock and it was so difficult. Looking through her bible, we found a poem about death and how wonderful it would be to be in the next world. It talked about loved ones not grieving because the ultimate gift of eternal life had been received. It changed my thoughts on her death and I knew I didn't want to deny her the reward she had so coveted. The hole in my heart has remained and I miss her dearly but I am really happy for my mom. I know from other posts that your family has struggled with health issues due to weight. Use your mom as inspiration in your weight loss journey and that will keep her in your heart on a daily basis. I know you don't feel like eating and drinking but I know your mom would want you to be healthy. Do it for her. Again, you and your family are in my prayers.

    failure :(

Define failure. You have already made steps to change your life by having surgery. That in itself is awesome. You are only 8 days post op so that means you are retaining fluid and your sore tummy is swollen... you have not allowed yourself to succeed yet. Once you start losing weight, it gets exciting. You will lose, maybe quickly, maybe slowly, whichever doesn't really matter as long as you stick to the program. Any and all weight loss is success because you are doing something positive for your body and your health. Try to be positive, I know it's difficult the first two weeks out because you feel so dreadful, but I promise, it will get better and you will feel better with each pound you lose. Good luck.

    Smoking :(

cutting back that much should help a lot but you really need to cut them out completely for atleast 3 months post-op. Smoking will interfere with your healing and could cause complications. You need to choose which is most important to you. Maybe you could try the nicotine gum. Also, check with your primary care physician, maybe he can find you a cessation aid.

    Help! Best Shock-Absorbing Walking Shoes?

I also have wide feet, high arches and add to that a high instep. I have found New Balance to be the best since they have a wide toe box and provide support for high arches. I have smallish feet 7.5 so getting them wide is usually a problem but not so with New Balance. A good fitting is most necessary in order to get the correct style to fit your feet. Good luck.

    2.5 days to go !

And we are excited for you. You are going to love it!!! (well, you won't love it the first two weeks.... but after that you will) !! Good luck and hope you have a good surgery and a quick and uneventful healing.
  12. Hi Re, don't be nervous. All will be fine with your surgery. Humans for some reason are afraid of the unknown. We are like this with everything. People are against WLS because they are not familiar with it, have not read up on it nor have they done any research. All that will change in a few years I am sure because so many celebrities are having WLS. You are having surgery for your health right? Your health is your business and nobody else's so you don't have to have these discussions with anybody. Make your choices for a better healthier life and then go with it. A year from now when you are down 100 pounds and looking like a hot little mama.... your sisters will be dieting again and trying to lose the same 30 pounds they lost this year. Most of us can lose weight but keeping it off is a different story. The yoyo cycles we put our bodies through are killing us so its better to lose the weight and keep it off. If that can only be accomplished by WLS, then so be it. It's nice to have support of family a friends but it isn't 100 per cent necessary. If this is something you truly want .... do it and get your support from this forum. When your sisters see the changes in your life, they'll get on board with this, but if they don't...its okay...you will be healthier and you will live longer. And that is the bottom line.

New to the forum..Soon to be sleeved!

Hi Sashii, We don't judge anyone in this forum and certainly wouldn't judge you for wanting VSG. Your doctor is way smarter than we are and if he suggested surgery for you, then we are here to support you. Diabetes is a serious disease and that alone is reason enough. It sounds like you have multiple comorbidities that would be improved with surgery so it sounds like insurance would approve but of course every insurance policy is different. I wish you much luck and can just say that its the best thing I've ever done. Wishing you good health for the future.

9 months post op with pics

Girl, you are FAB-U-LOUS. You could be a poster child for VSG because you have certainly rocked it. Your hard work and dedication have paid off and you deserve that hot little body that you havedeveloped. So proud of you.
  15. Are you taking anything for nausea? Until you start drinking the water, the weight won't come off. You may need to go to the ER and get an IV so you won't be dehydrated. The dehydration is making you tired. At the ER they can put something in the IV that will help with that nausea and you will feel like a new woman. I haven't had any issues since my surgery but with all of my pregnancies I was nauseated 24/7 and became dehydrated often. The occasional trip to the ER for my drip was what saved me. I was able to eat and drink after these sessions. I'm surprised your doctor hasn't told you to go to the ER. Please check into it.

    Kick start weight loss

thank you so much for sharing this. Excellent article and lots of hints I needed to hear.
  17. I had a heel spur and pain in my achillies tendon prior to surgery. Not any better yet.

    Getting new clothes

Oh yeahhhh, my pants look like an army of elfs moved out. I plan on going to the local consignment shop and buying a few pair of pants to get me through awhile. They are used but in good shape so its all I need. I've bought a few shirts to spruce things up for work but all of my old dresses are fitting. I don't mind wearing them to church but I sure don't want to wear a dress to work. My coworkers will think I lost my mind. lol
  19. Melinda, you will do fine. Stay positive and focused and be realistic about the recovery. You got this. Janet

HI :) I am Tonya, 6 days post op...

Hi MsTonya, good to see you on the boards. This is a great place to share ideas and information and I hope you will share what you need to share and take away whatever you need to help you in your journey. We're all on the same path.
  21. I was told not to chew gum at all because it stimulated the appetite. Like all things you will get a variety of responses since every doctor's treatment plan is different.
  22. Melinda, calm down. There is not one of us that wasn't afraid at some level prior to surgery. We are all afraid of the unknown. Yes, complications can happen but thankfully they are very rare. I am assuming since you are in the Gastric Sleeve forum, you are planning on getting the sleeve. Everybody's surgery and progress is different but all I can say is, mine was pretty uneventful. When I got to the hospital, they put in the IV and gave me something to relax me...I fell right to sleep and the next thing I remember was my husband sitting next to me in my room. It happened so quickly. I was able to go back to work after the first week and I have progressed just like the doctor said I would. Have you done your research? Maybe you might feel better if you did some counseling with a therapist to get at some of the issues that are causing you to be so fretful. Have you been attending any of the support groups offered by your surgeon's clinic? I think that might be helpful for you. I wish you the best of luck with your decision, whatever that might be. Janet
  23. I think you should listen to your Endocrynologist, they know your history and are the experts. Good luck to you.

    Treadmill

What did your surgeon tell you? Mine said as soon as I got home I could walk outside or on the treadmill. The only limitation was no lifting over 10 pounds, no running, and no machines for 6 weeks. I feel like the treadmill and the stationary bike have really aided in my weight loss.

Can you have a stall just one week post-op?!

You are still retaining fluid and your stomach and abdominal area are still swollen and inflamed. It takes a couple of weeks for your body to recover from the shock of surgery. Give it a few days and you will most like see a dramatic drop of 9 or 10 pounds. You are going to lose the weight, just be patient and drink your fluids and eat according to plan your surgeon gave you. Everyone's body is different and will lose at a different rate. Not everyone is a fast loser.
