    In need of some advice

What 13 yr old doesn't have attitude??? My 25 yr old daughter was against it at first too but I took her to some support meetings with me and showed her the book on Weight Loss Surgery that I was reading. She soon got all on board and is now one of my biggest supporters. I'd suggest doing the same. Information and knowledge seem to change ideas, attitudes and opinions. Good luck.

    Not sure any more.

almitch, this scenario does not make sense to me. The bypass is generally for persons with more severe comorbidities. If you want the sleeve, ask for the sleeve and if this doctor doesn't want to do it, change doctors. I didn't go with the bypass because I didn't want to fool with all of those malaborption issues for the rest of my life. The sleeve is the way to go. You're paying the doctor, he works for you so you make the decision on which you get. Good luck to you and stand up for yourself.

    Where are the Mississippi Sleevers?

Hi Mike. I live in Jackson now but I used to live in Connecticut. LOL Funny how that works. You are a long way from home and you are doing a phenomenal job on this diet. 95 lbs since Feb 3rd is unbelievable. Bet you are feeling a hundred times better. We look forward to hearing more from you. Send pics.

    Where are the Mississippi Sleevers?

Hi Polly. You are a long way from New York. What's a nice lady like you doing in a place like this? LOL Congratulations on your surgery and your will power over the holiday. Once you are able to eat solids, take it easy...don't rush into it. Your weight loss so far is wonderful and am happy to see more Mississippi folks posting. Don't be a stranger, post often.
  5. search Dr Joya's name in the search browser, you may find stuff on here already. Good luck.
  6. My doctor called my surgery "out-patient" and I went through the "out=patient admission office" but I was scheduled for 2 nights. Because of a respiratory problem I ended up staying a third night. My daughter stayed with me the entire time and took care of me but I know she could have done the same thing for me at home. I did like the IV and pain pump which you can't take home but it's all good.

    Left incision opened help!

Call the doctor first thing in the morning. Is there any discharge? Do you have fever? Its probably fine but its always best to have the doctor look at it. May just need a few butterfly bandages to keep it closed. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.
  11. I love, love, love spicy food but it no longer loves me. Ever since my sleeve I've had horrible reflux and I can't handle anything too spicy. I do still try to eat it from time to time but I have to take protonix 2 times per day. It's just easier if I stay away from spicy food. Good luck to you, everyone is different.
  12. I get in my Protein, Vitamins and fluids and I am still losing my hair. Started right before my 3 months post surgery. I hate it and wish it wasn't so but I knew coming into this that it was a possibility. Even so, I think it is worth it since it is a temporary problem and the hair will grow back. Don't worry about it, what will be will be and you could be one of the lucky 30% that doesn't lose their hair. I was able to buy a size 14 dress today, down from a size 22 in just over 3 months. Yep that hair loss is so worth it.

    Gaining immediately

Same thing happened to me. I had read how people came home from the hospital 15 pounds lighter and wanted the same for myself. I came home 8 pounds heavier and was upset. I suppose they should explain this to everyone at the hospital but most times they don't. Try not to worry about any of this and as RJ said, stay off the scales for the first month and you will be better off mentally and emotionally. Just concentrate on the Protein and fluids. Its going to happen...you will lose weight...quit stressing. Breathe.........
  14. So glad you called the doctor. You definitely need an IV of Fluid. It will give you some energy and make you feel some better. I hope the tests don't find anything wrong but please do keep us up to date. So sorry you are having this problem. It isn't the norm. Dry foods like white meat chicken, hard boiled eggs, nuts and things of that sort are difficult to eat for most of us. Make chicken salad or tuna salad out of that meat. You need the fat and the moisture helps the taste and it goes down so much easier. Scrambled eggs are better for you than hard boiled eggs. Water by itself is difficult going down. Add a flavor enhancer and it will go down easier. Take care, Janet

    Stomach Bruising

I also had a bit of bruising. Not as much as you described about your husband. Everyone is different and if they have to move the instruments around more it can cause bruising. When you go for your 2 week check up make sure the doctor looks at it. Good luck to both of you.
  16. I don't think I know anybody that has gotten in all their fluids or Protein the first two weeks. Thank God they pump you full of fluids in the hospital. Just do the best you can and as time goes by it will get easier and your Fluid intake will increase. Don't stress over this. You are entitled to a healing period.

    worried new sleever here :)

Don't worry about how much fluids you're stomach holds. If that was a concern they wouldn't tell you to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of Water every day. When you are eating solids...then it will be a concern. Don't worry about the size of the bougie they used during surgery either, what difference does it make? Your stomach is the size the doctor made it and there isn't anything you can do about it now. Focus on what is important. What you eat, when you eat, how much you eat and getting in all your fluids and Vitamins. The first month or two is all trial and error while you are healing and learning to eat. The weight ebbs and flows and for most people it doesn't seem to be a consistent loss. If you do your 30 minutes of exercise every day, drink 64 ounces of water and eat your Protein.... you will lose the weight. It might not be as fast as the next person but it will come off and I can assure you, it will be much faster than any other diet you ever tried. Be patient and take this one day at a time. Stressing over it is counter productive and science has proven that stress can cause you to over eat. Sit back, enjoy the ride and appreciate the process for what it is. This is a life long process, not a 2 month race to a finish line. Take care and best of luck to you.

    Cereal?

I eat oatmeal from time to time and put Protein powder in it. It's great and was easy to eat when I transitioned to foods.

    No mistakes!

I agree 100%. I have too many stories to support this perspective..more than I have space and time to print today. Take this as God's way of speaking to you. You have asked for change and this is your response.
  22. I only took 4 days off from work and then had the weekend to recover. I would have loved to have been off work but I didn't really need it. Being at work helped me keep my mind off of food and the routine helped me get into the groove of eating and drinking on a schedule. I saved my leave for later....I'm going to Greece in July and will enjoy that time off a whole lot more than sitting around the house. Everyone is different, everyone heals at a different rate so we all have to do what is best for ourselves. This is not a one size fits all kind of progress, right folks?

    extreme hair loss

My hair started falling out as soon as I hit 3 months. I knew it would happen but the reality of it is scary and depressing. I used to have such thick hair and now it is so thin, I have another 6 months of this at least but I'm afraid I don't have enough hair to see me through that long. I've upped my protein and B=12 and I'm taking Biotin. I know that won't help with the hair loss but it should promote regrowth. Just hope the regrowth is as fast as the fall out.

10 days post op only 4lbs down

Yep, Normal Normal Normal. You have just had surgery and you were pumped full of air and fluids. Your insides are swollen and recovering. Give yourself some time and the weight loss will appear suddenly in a few days. You are still healing so give yourself some time.... you will be surprised one day when you wake up and the scale is down 8 or 9 pounds over night. Be patient..... the numbers will fall.

Cats Vs Dogs (Share your pet pics)

I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. I love them all. My big furbaby is a 95 pound labradoodle that i rescued when he was 18 months old. He was aggressive and bit people when I got him. Now he is just a big teddy bear. Some people just don't know how to treat animals and they react to how they have been treated so he has now learned love and trust and he no longer feels he needs to be aggressive and he no longer bites. My smaller furbaby is also a rescue... a 25 pound Cavachon. He has unconditional love for me and follows me every step. I've never felt such love before this little one came into my life. The cats are Trouble, Lady and Big Boy and they are independent outside cats who are affectionate but care more about eating than anything else. My children know how I love my pets because they too have multiple dogs. At Christmas and Thanksgiving we sometimes have as many dogs at my house as we do people. I will try to attach some photos but I'm not very technically savvy. Nope couldn't do. I'm on my tablet and the photos are on the lap top. silly me. Trust me... my dogs are the cutest ever. Leo and Oliver. My hearts
