A thread for Single Bandsters
smilin_apple replied to NewBeginnings2018's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the warning... I did get a small fill on Monday of .3 cc's.... I am at a total of 6.5 cc's now. I have been taking everyone's advice on this website and am really slowing it down. Even when I drink water I have to "SIP" I leave next week....so if I am still too tight right before I go I might go get an unfil of .10 or so. I do...I notice it is MUCH worse if I don't get enough sleep or I am stressed. Which makes me nervous...because my whole day is messed up if I don't sleep. I have a problem with chicken most of the time, but steak (med-rare) and fish work best for me when I am eating solid proteins. -
Well I got a fill... I got .3 cc's I am now at 6.5 cc's total. I am feeling ok...but not eating much... I was able to get down about 4 ounces of watery cream Soup yesterday over about 1 1/2 hours or so. But I only drank about 16 oz of Water throughout the day. I know that was bad for me but I was having a hard time getting it down. I think I am getting the hang of it now. With the continued prayers and God's help I know I will have it down in no time.

Thank you so much for all the information! I really really appreciated it. I did get a little fill...he put in .3 cc's and I am now at a total of 6.5 cc's. I am back to liquids again, I didn't think it would be this bad again but it was. I am really having to think even when I drink water. I can only sip, yesterday I took too big of a sip/gulp and it hurt like CRAZY...I ended up slimming and the water came back up. I managed to get down about 4 ounces of supper watery cream soup that took me an hour and a half to drink. But I was concerned yesterday because I only managed to get down about 16 ounces of fluid. The part that sucks the worst is when I have to take my back pain medicine...I even tried breaking the pills into ity bity pieces but it still gets stuck....last night part of it came back up because it hurt so bad. I will take your advice to heart and I am going to look into getting baby utensils and placeware, like bowl and plate....maybe that will help me. By the way how long have you been banded? I noticed you are around half way to your goal! That is awesome....CONGRATS! -
Yeah my Doc said it is different for everyone. I have heard of people who have been at their "Sweet spot" and their band was only 1/3 full. I know for the first two weeks it was bad like twhat you are dealing with Imonmyway. I couldn't even get a whole glass of water down without having to drink it over about 30 minutes. I just finished eating and it was a Swedish Meatball Lean Cuisine. I was barely able to get the whole thing down. The last few bites got stuck for about 20 minutes...boy did that hurt like crazy!!! I just don't know if that is the amount I am suppossed to be eating or less. Does anyone know what the approx calorie intake should be? Like I said before I am right around 1300 a day right now is that too much? I guess I will find out how much I lost this month on Monday. By the way I was extremely tempted to go in to have an unfill after a week of throwing up everything and only being able to eat at night. I was thinking at my fill on Monday to ask for only about .5 cc's instead of the 1 cc I got last time. Any suggestions or comments???

Thank you so much!

I'm in Sacramento, I have pretty much lived here my whole life except for the couple of years my dad was stationed in England when he was still in the Air Force; when I was a baby.

I am thinking it is when I eat too fast or carelessly. I get caught up in conversation or watching TV and don't pay attention. I also know sometimes it is the foods. I used to NEVER slim or Throw up....my first episode was after my last fill. Then it has happened probably 15 times in the last month. But the problem is the foods that are soft enough for me don't have enough protein in them. I will talk to my Doc about the flight but I am worried that he won't know too much about it. He has been doing Gastric Bypass for years ut the Band for less than a year. -
Oh you helped me lots....thank you! I thought I was going crazy and it was only me who got food stuck like that. I think I will get a fill, maybe just a smaller one. We'll see what the Doc says on Monday. My last fill was my third one too and it was about 1 cc or a little more to equal the total of 5.5 cc's. I was due for mine on Fri Mar 7th but asked them to move me up to Mar 3rd since I am leaving for Hawaii on the 13th. I wanted a week and half before I left to be here in CA in case there is a problem.

Well that is not all I am eating that is only an example of a meal...with my 2 snacks and meals I am taking in around 55-70 grams of protein and 1100-1300 calories a day on average. The flight to Hawaii isn't until 10 days after my fill that I am getting on Monday so I am hoping to be settled by then if I do get one. What I am worried about is what should I be eating (Calorie wise and meal wise) How do I know if I am at my "Sweet spot"? Yes that is what is happening to me...it happens about once a day. Sometimes I have to make it come up if it hurts too bad and won't move. -
Hi all!!! Where is everyone at....Did all the November Bandsters dissappear??? I have some questions... I go for my 4th appointment since my Band was placed on Nov 7th. This is suppossed to be my 3rd fill but I am not sure if I should get one. I have the AP Band that can hold a little over 10 cc's and I have about 5.5 cc's in it now. For the first time since the beginning; when I had this last fill done on Feb 7th until about Feb 21st (2 weeks); I was having trouble eating anything until around 7 pm at night. Now that I am able to eat throughout the day over the last week I noticed the amount is getting a little more each day. Right now I can eat either 1-2 pkts of oatmeal for breakfast. OR I can have about 1-2 cups of salad and about 5-6 oz of meat. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know because I am worried, I leave for Hawaii on Mar 13th and I don't want to be back at how I was after my last 1 cc fill for two weeks throwing up almost every day when stuff would get stuck for 45 minutes at a time. By the way does anyone else get food stuck too???

Hi all!!! I go for my 4th appointment since my Band was placed on Nov 7th. This is suppossed to be my 3rd fill but I am not sure if I should get one. I would like to know from people who have had their bands for a little while or longer when they said that was enough of a fill for now? I have an AP Band that can hold a little over 10 cc's and I have about 5.5 cc's in it now. For the first time when I had this last fill done on Feb 7th until about Feb 21st (2 weeks) I was having trouble eating anything until around 7 pm at night. OR I can have about 1-2 cups of salad and about 3 oz of meat OR instead of just meat about 1 cup of a meat /pasta combo. The other day I was able to eat 2 small frozen burritto at one sitting but that is not the norm. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know because I am worried, I leave for Hawaii on Mar 13th and I don't want to be back at how I was after my last 1 cc fill for two weeks throwing up almost every day when stuff would get stuck for 45 minutes at a time. Where I had my Band done it is unusual...they said if you do either a liquid diet or a 1200 cal a day healthy eating diet before surgery and you lose even a few pounds it helps to shrink your liver so they can do the procedure easier. Since the telescopic instruments they use to do the Laproscopic surgery are thin it is easier to support your liver to hold it out of the way while they are working on your stomach. I actually got to see them doing a surgery on a video in one of my classes and I could see what they meant about the liver. -
Thanks....I will see what happens. I am hoping since it has only been 7 days since my fill that it will still lossen up in the next few days. I know when I had my first fill it lossened up after about a week and I was able to eat more. I am trying to remember to eat the protein first but sometimes I get sidetracked and do the bite for bite thing.

That is a thought...I know I sleep on average a good 4 hours straight then maybe another 1-2 hours after I take my daughter to school in the mornings. Maybe I need to try to get to bed a little sooner and see if that makes a difference. I really like your idea about the fluids....I thought I was drinking enough with the 3 or so bottles of water plus the Hot tea and Propel...but maybe not...thank you all for the suggesstions I will try some out -
Yeah I have tried drinking something warm like Decaf Hot Tea before an afternoon meal but just haven't tried drinking it in the morning....I will try that next I am getting enough water in...just barely but enough. I drink 3 bottles a day plus one to two bottles of propel. I also drink 1 to 2 large cups of Hot tea a day. Welcome Patti-cake.... Glad you decided to join in, this group is wonderful! If you have any questions just ask away.

That sounds good...any amount of protein in the morning will help me get closer to my daily goal. By the way what should I be having I have heard somewhere in the neighborhood of 65-100 grams of protein a day? I did buy some fish the other day... I am going to try this too. I haven't tried that yet...I did order some Unjury yesterday(waiting for that to come in the mail) I don't know if you have heard of it but it is Unflavored Protein Powder and you are suppossed to be able to mix it in anything. I haven't tried it before but we'll see how it goes. I hope it doesn't taste funny... I was thinking I could put it in my watered down oatmeal or vanilla yogurt because each scoop is 20 grams of Whey protein isolate. I am just so terrified of getting an unfill of any amount. I have heard of so many people who do that and start gaining weight. I have my follow up with my surgeon on Mar.3rd if I can wait until then I will see if I still need to do an unfill or maybe it will be ok by then and I can leave it alone. I just hate going to see the surgeon just because he is so far away. It takes me a little over 2 hours just to get there and I have to pay 2 Toll Bridge charges ($8) each time I go out there. -

Thanks but yes I have tried that... I had a whole cup of really warm almost hot Decaf Green tea waited a few minutes then tried to eat and still no luck. It always gets stuck for at least 25 minutes sometimes longer and I then give up on wanting to eat anything until later.:frown: -

I have a question for someone...anyone who can answer... I am having trouble eating since my last fill...and to think it was only my second fill ( I am at approx. 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band) I am getting the calories in (mostly at night) but not the amount of protein needed. When I look back in my food logs I am only taking in anywhere between 25 - 40 grams protein a day. It has been extremely hard especially since I seem to not be able to eat anything thicker than yogurt until sometime after 5 pm in the evening. Thank goodness I am up really really late since I work Swing Shift and don't go to bed each day until around 3am- 4am; but being up around 10 in the morning and not being able to eat much of anything until around 5pm-7pm is hard. I have tried everything I can think of... even most protein shakes are too much in the mornings. Any suggestions??? -
