Embarrassing Question - What To Tell Casual Friends
runnergirlsmom replied to Karen W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I told no one besides my husband. The day before surgery I told the kids I was going in for a hernia operation. And that is what I told my job and family. I took about a week and a half off from work. That was 4 months ago and I'm down 32 pounds (slow loser but that's okay with me) almost half way there, 43 pounds to go. I've been able to do this at my own pace without everyone watching my every bite and not have to talk about it non stop. Not telling was the 2nd best decision I've ever made -
So, should I be 'disappointed', 'flattered' or 'indifferent'?

I had to laugh because I have not gotten that 'holy crap' moment I've been waiting for from anyone either. The other day someone at work took a good look at me and said your ponytail looks nice lol. I'm like really that's the best I can get out of people! I keep thinking 5 more pounds, 10 more pounds and then it will come. I think maybe people don't want to acknowledge my weight loss because they politely ignored my weight gain. Loose skin, wrinkles and hair loss but I just keep truckin along. Maybe a summer tan will do the trick lol .....signed, Hopeful -
I am 45 years old and the baby of a large family with 3 other siblings. My husband is the only one who knows, didn't even tell my two children (17 and 13). Only when I was done with the surgery and in the hospital recovering did I tell my family that went in for a 'hernia repair' (which wasn't a lie because I did have that done too). They were not happy with me for not telling them I went in for surgery but I just told them I wanted no visitors and to recover in private. We all live local so it was quite a feat I pulled off. I'm only down 35 lbs since October (cw is 185) so it has not been a drastic loss. No one has questioned me.

It was happening to me too, especially at night before sleep. But the great thing is I'm 3 months out with 30 pounds gone and haven't had them since. Night time was when I couldn't control the worrying even though during the day I felt fine.

I went the self pay route and had my sleeve done 10/14. I was told that with self pay I would pay approx 30% of the actual cost. Thought okay I will be able to swing the $12,000. Today I get a call from my husband who was in total shock, hospital bill came in at $27,000. That's without the surgeons or anesthesia bill I am not sure what to do, in total disbelief right now.

Bruising - 3 week post op
runnergirlsmom replied to runnergirlsmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
[callchrissy"]What I'd like to know is how you are getting all that water and protein down??? Callchrissy.......25g powder protein with 8oz of 1% milk 8g if protein = 33g of protein twice a day plus a few oz of Greek yogurt brings me close to 70. Water is harder but my tummy really likes Luke warm decaf tea, 16oz x 2 and the rest is struggle down w bottled water. Water is the hard one. That sums up my existence these last few weeks. -
I just noticed in the past few days I have unexplained bruising mostly on my legs and hips. I've been taking my multi vitamin, B12 and D3. I've been afraid to take iron because I'm having problems with being 'regular' and didn't want to complicate things. I'm still on liquids until Tuesday when I see my surgeon for my 3 week check up. I manage to get almost 70 grams of protein in daily and almost 60oz of water . What could it be?

I am almost 2 weeks post op and while my stomach is still tender in some spots, I have no real pain. But my upper stomach feels hard and swollen. Is this normal? I don't see my doctor another 9 days. I've only had a bowel movement 3x since surgery.

No weight loss - 8 days post op
runnergirlsmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am trying to stay positive but 8 days post op and I haven't lost a pound. I came home from the hospital at 200 lbs and here I sit day after day. My protein intake is about 60g daily and can do almost 50 oz of water (not easy getting it all in) Besides the Ensure High Protein and water I can't get much else in. Why aren't I losing? I am definitely wonder what I've done to myself, without the positive reinforcement of weight loss it's hard not to get down in the dumps. I go back to work tomorrow and I am looking forward to the distraction. -
I had my sleeve done Monday at 2pm. I can not tolerate any liquid because of that they have keep me another night. Not thrilled about that since I am self paying. Has anyone has this extreme nausea? What day does it stop ?

At 45 I am forced to go for a single process touch up every 3 weeks (prematurely grey). Will I not be able to do this? I can possibly stretch it out to 4 weeks. Will I have to go grey in order to keep my hair?? My sleeve surgery is Oct 14th.

October Sleevers - Who else
runnergirlsmom replied to clefofcividale's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am new to the group. I am getting my sleeve Oct 14, I am on day 2 of my liquid diet. I'm self paying, my doctor is Dr Telem in Stony Brook NY. I am 5'3" and currently 208. I feel like it came up on me very fast, started the process 3rd week of July. I have not told my family or friends, just my husband (the kids don't even know). Not sure how to handle people's opinions so I just decided to avoid giving them the chance.
