Has anyone experienced thyroid issues AFTER having sleeve surgery?
-
Catherine, I see that your surgeon is Dr. Boynton. He was my surgeon and he's awesome! Chris is amazing as well. I have nothing but good things to say about them!

Do you have a yearly physical? If you do, your doctor should be documenting your weight and bmi. I freaked out because I totally forgot that my pcp kept track of my weight and bmi each time I see him. He actually had 7 years documented for me. What about your previous pcp, can you get your records?

As my one year surgiversary creeps up (2/25/15) I just think about how thankful I am for the opportunity to make such a major change to my life! My health is no where near perfect, but I cringe when I think about where I was almost a year ago, and where I would be now if I didn't take that leap of faith and have this major surgery. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF US!!!!!

Do you enjoy cooking still?
SandeeD replied to kajunqty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm interested in my own herb garden too! lol Since I now live in an apartment, I was looking into indoor/year round herb gardens and this is what I found www.aerogarden.com -
Do you enjoy cooking still?
SandeeD replied to kajunqty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still love to cook! I actually think I'm a better cook since having surgery. I was responsible for all of the desserts for Thanksgiving dinner...I made lemon meringue pie (for the firs time), sweet potato pie, apple pie and red velvet cupcakes. It's comforting to know that I now have the ability to eat what I like and be able to stop eating when I'm full. A few bites and I'm full. I'm eating leftovers today, then I'm done with it! lol My fridge is now empty (I never buy regular groceries close to the holidays because I know there will be so much leftovers from the dinner). I will go to Wholefoods on Saturday and pick up my regular stuff. I'm always looking for new healthy recipes to cook. Since I live a lone, I reduce the recipe to 4 servings and put the rest in zip lock bags and freeze it. -

So do you Krystal! -
I LOVE your video girl, very informative! You may want to remove the music though...maybe it's just me, but it's a little distracting and takes away from what you're saying.

ISO cheap winter clothes

Yup, Goodwill is my go to. I have to go there tomorrow and find some pants because my size 14s are getting ridiculously baggy. I've found quite a few new items too for great prices! I bought 2 Jones of New York suits - BRAND NEW for $10 each. They are a size 10, but I know that I will shrink into them too! lol I also love the Ross Dress for Less clearance racks. Putting forth a little bit more effort will get you some great bargains! -
I love my Weight Watchers digital scale.

I'm now 7 months post-op and just as my doctor warned me, the hunger is returning. I've been in a stall for a few weeks, which is fine because I had some weeks when the weight was just falling off. The problem now is that I'm feeling real hunger more frequently. I'm continuing to make healthy choices and being more diligent about tracking what I eat. Any other suggestions on how to control the hunger beast would be appreciated!

Hey guys, thanks for your feedback. I think I'm over the hunger hump. I'm feeling back to "normal" now. I think it was head hunger. I'm back on track now.

I'm going to have to switch insurance companies before 1/1/14 and I'm leaning towards Amerihealth. I know that they cover bariatric surgery, but does anyone know what the full list of requirements are before submitting for approval? Thanks in advance!

I LOVE sushi. I've been eating it now for about 25 years, so at this point, I've tried it all. When I was 4 months post-op I sat at the sushi bar and asked the chef to make me a roll without rice. He made a roll using the cucumber as the shell, put salmon inside and sliced it into the regular 6 pieces. I ate 3 pieces and saved the rest for dinner. I didn't even miss the rice, it was delicious and I was satisfied. Now at 6 months out, I'm anxious to have it with rice again...yum:)

I HAD junk in my trunk, but after losing 60 pounds it's all gone. All I'm left with is what looks like a deflated balloon:( My butt is now saggy on the outside AND inside (nobody told me about the inside saggy part, I discovered that one day when wiping myself after using the bathroom - sorry if it's tmi). I kinda sorta miss my plump butt, but I don't want to carry all of that around anymore. Also, for weeks when I would sit in my car I thought something was sticking out of the seat or that I was sitting on my keys or something, then I discovered that it was my boney butt that I was feeling! lol I never imagined that I would actually "feel" my bones ever again.

I feel like the people around me are acting funny towards me now. No major changes, just slight things that make me question, "Have I changed other than the weight loss?" I feel like I'm getting my mojo back, feeling better about myself, but isn't that a good thing? Now I feel like I have to filter myself and I don't bring up the weight loss or anything related to it unless the other person mentions it, and even then I try not to make it the focus of the conversation. I think that when we go through this process, it forces people to look at themselves and think about making changes. Anybody feeling me on this one?

Nervous about psych evaluation....
SandeeD replied to bthbck's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mine was like having a conversation with a friend (the therapist also had VSG). Don't be nervous, they just want to make sure you're having the surgery for the right reasons. -
I'm glad I found this because I thought I was losing my mind. I've NEVER had acne, but since the surgery I have this nasty outbreak on my shoulders that doesn't seem to clear up. I guess it would help if I would just leave it a lone (not picking the scab - yuck). I've been using the acne body wash, so it helps. I want it to dry up so the marks will fade. Before I didn't want to wear sleeveless because my arms were so big, now I'm self conscious because of the acne:(

What is reasoning for not drinking water with meals?
SandeeD replied to PlzCoolerMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I eat and drink too soon, my stomach is overly full, then I start burping, and with one good burp...everything comes back up. Sorry...gross. -

I'm surprised you did ok with drinking while eating. Most people (like myself) throw up if they eat and drink at the same time. -
I'm 60 pounds down and still saw that BIG person in the mirror until recently. Even though hate the saggy skin, I think I look pretty damn good...with my clothes on!

My surgery date was 2/25 and I'm down 57 pounds. I'm doing ok for the most part, but I get a one to two week stretch when my stomach is uncomfortable....like now. Anybody else have that problem?

For the last two days my stomach has a slight burning feeling when I eat or drink. It also makes gurgling noises. I have to admit, I recently had some spicy food within this time, so maybe that's what it is? I was treated for an ulcer before the surgery, so maybe it's flaring up again? Anyone else experience this?
