Since October 1, 2013 I've been going back and forth with my health insurance, the Obamacare Healthcare Marketplace debacle. I thought I was all set to have my new insurance in place on Jan. 1st, then I get a call from my Horizon Insurance agent this afternoon. Long story short, what I thought was done was not done. I completely lost it, colorful language, tears, yelling...the whole nine. No, I am not proud of my outburst because it is so out of character for me. I'm the ultimate professional at all times and I always seem to smile through my pain, disappointment, anger, etc., but today was NOT the day! I feel like I ALWAYS do things the right way, by the book and I always get screwed:( I have 4 doctors appointments this week which will have me all done with my pre-op appointments, AND I AM DETERMINED TO NOT LET ANYTHING OR ANYONE GET IN MY WAY OF BEING SLEEVED, PERIOD! Of course, I apologized to the person on the other end of the phone, as I felt very embarrassed about how I behaved, and we even laughed about it (she said she's heard every curse word ever said today because it's so close to the Jan. 1st deadline). I made a few phone calls and it will be resolved by tomorrow morning (my new insurance will be processed and I will make the premium payment in time for the Jan. 1st effective date). Now, as I get closer to being sleeved, I realize how really, really important all of this is to me.

Sometimes you have to laugh at yourself...
SandeeD posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, for the past month or so I've been taking these gummy bite type of calcium and multivitamins. Each day that I take them I have to remind myself that they're NOT CANDY! lol Especially when I'm hungry, I'm so tempted to eat more than one, but I don't, I promise you! lol I laugh at myself each time because the greedy side of me comes out! lol -
Sweet!

So Frustrated With Healthcare.gov...ugh!
SandeeD replied to SandeeD's topic in Insurance & Financing
Thanks Tropical! Since that post I have upgraded to one of the new Horizon BCBS of NJ plans that will in fact cover the surgery. If I didn't do that, I would have had to wait until April 1 which is when my current plan would renew and it would be the one year I needed to be eligible to have any pre-existing conditions covered. Originally HBCBSNJ was not going to renew that plan, but I recently got a letter stating that since President Obama had promised us that we could keep our current health coverage, they decided to allow the policies to be renewed. I didn't want to take any chances, so I went ahead and got one of the new policies. It's way more money, but when I file me taxes in February, I'll be able to apply for a subsidy (which will lower the cost). One more week of pre-op stuff in January, then I can submit! -
I had to appeal their denial for a subsidy because I DO qualify for it! (I make under $40,000 a year). I submitted my appeal over two weeks ago, heard nothing. I called and no one knows anything...appeals department is in a different location, we have no phone number for them, blah, blah, blah...the runaround! I have insurance right now but it doesn't cover bariatric surgery until I'm on the plan for year (which won't be until April 2014), AND, they're canceling that policy as of April 2014 because it doesn't abide by the new health insurance laws. To top it off, if I decide to purchase insurance outside of the Marketplace I then forfeit my subsidy (IF I get it). I called to get the status and they are now telling me it will take 90 days to get their decision. I AM BEYOND FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW!!!!!!! I want them to just tell me something so I can move on either way!!!!!!

Does it matter which one we consume post-surgery? The only difference I see is that stock has double the protein (4 grams). My plan says broth, but I was wondering if it really mattered. I'm stocking up on post-surgery items and bought mostly broth, but one chicken and beef stock as well.

Chicken/Beef Broth or Stock?
SandeeD replied to SandeeD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Laura! I was cleaning out my freezer (it was already basically empty lol) and I found some chicken pieces, so I boiled them and seasoned them, refrigerated it, skimmed any fat off the top and strained it to get any little pieces out. Perfect broth! I put it in a container and in the freezer it will be until I need it. I also have some chicken bouillon cubes/powder and today I bought a few containers of beef broth, and beef and chicken stock. So hopefully, something will satisfy me. -
I know it's a shot that you have to inject yourself with to prevent blood clots. Is this standard procedure? I don't know if I could do this.

Whew! Thank you guys, I feel better now:)

Now, THAT'S what I'm talking about! The only thing I can fit comfortably from NY&C is a blouse, maybe...sometimes lol

Yummy low calorie, fat free caramel mocha
SandeeD replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm in Southern NJ and just bought two bottles yesterday from a discount store (Ollie's), caramel and hazelnut...$1.99 a bottle. I'm pre-op, so I cleaned out my cupboards, freezer and fridge and stocking up on post-op goodies. -
Dry brushing before you take a shower/bath helps too. Moisturize with Almond oil and Castor oil combo.

WOW, that WAS quick! Glad you're doing well. You are the same height and about the same pre-surgery weight as me. Good luck in the days to come. Happy recuperating!

You guys are soooooooo NASTY, and I LOVE it! lol Seriously though, since I'm not in a relationship right now (on purpose), I've been pushing my naughty feelings down deep so I can dig them up later. I really need to start taking care of me first before I let someone in again, and based on what you guys are saying, IT'S GONNA BE GOOD! lol "Let's get it on, let's get it on...." (singing to myself:) -
