Thanks so much for the post. I nver thought about cortisol. Makes perfect sense. I gained 20 pounds from the procedure and I thought it was from the IVs. It has taken two months for the swelling to subside. That must be the reason! R.

Margaret, I didn't keep it quiet. I told my family, friends and of course close work colleagues. Everyone was and is still very supportive. I know it is very personal decision, but to me it was not a sign of weakness or failure. I believe everyone who undertakes this life changing procedure has to be very brave to do it. Also, I think you are going to need some support from family and/or friends. I know I did because I live alone and had to rely on friends to help drive to and from the hospital and do things for me until I could do for myself, and it really did help to have family support even if it was long distance. Wishing you the best for your upcoming procedure! Robynn

Hello. I've been perusing posts for a couple of months in hope of finding someone who may have a problem losing like I am. I was "sleeved" on Ocotber 15 and have lost 43 pounds with a weight the day of surgery of 258. It has been a slow process with weeks of not losing, then dropping 5 or 10 at a time and then weeks of not showing any weight difference again. I had a setback 6 weeks ago where I had to have open abdominal surgery for an incarcerated, partially strangulated hernia. Now I am staple free and slowly getting back to my daily living. Believe me, this was far worse than the actual gastrectomy which I bounced back and returned to work within a week. So, even giving allowance for this last procedure, I feel I should be further along. Does anyone have any suggestions for speeding up the metabolism? I don't have much of an appetite and I think if I ate more, I would lose more. Thanks for "listening". Wishing you all health and happiness, robynnk

Oh, I forgot. I also live in a sparcely populated mountainous area and have not been able to get out much with the winter cold, snow and ice.

Hi, I am not new to the forum, but have not posted previously. I am 67 and had the sleeve done Oct 15, 2013. I have lost 38 pounds. I was lurking on another forum and the weight loss of a pound to 2 pounds a day astounded me! For the last two months have been at a stand still with only about a half a pound a week. After reading that some of the members in my age group have hit plateaus, I feel much better. As to hair loss, I have just noticed this in the last 3 weeks. Since this is supposed to be related to Protein intake, I figured that mine has dropped and I need to add more supplements back in. This may have had an effect on weight loss as well, so we will see. My doctor and dietician gave me a diet which is about 1200 calories a day. I think that is too much for me to lose a substantial amount of weight, after reviewing posts and discovering that many on this ofrum only take in 500 to 800 a day. What do you all think?

Nurses- when are you going back to work?!
robynnk replied to Megabuck886's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a gastric sleeve post op (10/15/13) and also a nurse, although I have, for the most part, a desk type position. I have ten pound weight restriction as well. I have done remarkably well since surgery, no pain at all and was up and about independently day 2. I could go back to work whenever, but I can't imagine going into a facility with healing wounds and a JP drain. I don't think they would let me come back to work. I have the 1st post op visit to remove drain and staples on the 28th at which time, I will most likely be allowed to return. Best wishes to all of you for great success in this healing process!
