  1. So I called my OB/GYN today and he told me he would recommend to wait at least 3 months to get pregnant after my sleeve is done. He said I may have to add protein drinks or something, but we will "deal with it!" I trust him completely. He's been in the field for 30 years. This is against everything I have read or heard, including what my surgeon said. What do you guys make of it?
  2. That's what I was thinking too. Thank you for the input. Isn't the first year the most vital to weight loss for the sleeve? Obviously pregnancy is going to stall that weight loss. I'm trying to figure out if it will effect my long term weight loss goals. Hmmm.
  3. Feeling really hopeless right now. I feel that I cannot go another day living my life this way as an obese person. My insurance company denied me because they said it is not medically necessary. My comorbidities can allegedly be managed without having surgery. I have chronic pain and nothing has helped. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, major depression and sleep apnea. All at age 31. I don't even know where to begin with the appeals process. My surgeon's office is of no help. My PCP is clueless as to how this process goes. My team is not on the ball. It's all up to me to appeal this and I'm so lost. I've never felt this low. Please. Someone help me.
  4. I'm so sorry to hear that. Thankfully you eventually got it covered.
  5. Can you expand on that heyher? Why was working with uhc a nightmare? Why did they deny you? How man my times did you appeal? Any info is helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Thank you everyone. Bariatric surgery is covered by my insurance. I've heard that uhc are really sticklers. They also said I didn't meet the 5 percent weight loss requirement. I actually did meet it in month 5 but then gained a little back in month six. I thought that would be good enough.
  7. I was a little surprised when my nut told my my surgeon doesn't require a special pre-op diet. They want me to follow what I've been doing to lose my 5% with the nut, but other than that no all liquid or anything! Is it just because he's very experienced and a pioneer in the field and isn't worried about knicking my liver? I'm wondering why he wouldn't want to play it safe...
  8. My surgeon simply stated that many of his patients never experienced hunger again which is an observation, not an expectation. You would be correct in saying it doesn't really matter what other's pre-op diets are, So does that mean we shouldn't share our experiences? What an odd statement to make.
  9. Yes there is a tool. I met with my surgeon yesterday. He asked which one I was specifically asking about And rattled off a few different ones. I just wanted to make sure he uses the latest technology. He said he doesnt require a preop diet because hes never had a problem during the 3000 bypasses he's performed. And hes done patients with bmi's of 100!
  10. I hate to change get off subject but what are some examples of slider foods?
  11. My surgeon said a lot of his patients never experience hunger again.
  12. Right redwillow?! I see, saint!

  14. Sounds like the no pre-op diet is more mainstream than I thought!
  15. Redwillow, Those are good guidelines! I'm getting sleeved at Aurora Sinai in Milwaukee. Dr. Chua has done about 6,000 bypasses since the 70's. 0 fatalities and even invented a weight loss procedure called the vertical band. I know I'm in great hands. Branmuffin, I like it when a doctor takes into consideration that it might be a little rough to go that long on liquid only!
  16. Teachamy, I'm having a hard time not eating everything in sight at the moment. It's how Ihave always prepared for restrictive eating to come:/ Joatsaint, I hear ya. I wouldn't be having surgery if I could do it on my own! Did you eat anything you wanted up until surgery?

  18. Does anyone drink carbonated beverages and if so, what limitations do you set for yourself?

    Soda And Carbonated Beverages

I'm sure when it comes down to it I will be too afraid to risk stretching my pouch. Just a couple last minute jitters:

    Soda And Carbonated Beverages

It's just that I'm from Wisconsin and would like to occasionally indulge in a slightly carbonated beer every so often. No big deal, but I know surgeons differing opinions about it.

    Will This Work For Me?:/

I really appreciate all of the feedback from everyone. I feel a little better now.
  22. Hello all,. I'm all sorts of "messed up in the head" right now. I hope one of you can help me with my struggles. It's all I can think about. I'm about 1.5 months pre-op. I have an appointment with my surgeon next Monday and I'm pretty certain insurance will approve me. I meet all the criteria and then some, including hypertension at age 31. My bmi is at 44ish and I have high cholesterol, sleep apnea and orthopedic problems. Anyways, I'm so worried that this is just going to be another yo-yo experience for me. Going under the knife doesn't phase me. I've had a cesarean and appendectomy with great success and recovery. I feel as though I'm not taking this journey very seriously. I lost about 20 pounds for the 6 month diet that my insurance requires and have been eating like crazy ever since my final weigh-in. I'm out of control and pretty much just lost the weight to qualify for surgery. I feel that I don't have the mental part needed for sustained weight loss. Part of my approval involves seeing a counselor for a year after surgery, but who knows how well that will keep me grounded? I know surgery is just a "tool" but will I be physically changed enough afterwards to really take off weight? Perhaps I'm over-analyzing or just hyper-critical of myself. This is my last chance at having a healthy life and all I can think about it "blowing" this opportunity. HELP! :/
