I know ill get a ton of mixed opionons on this but whats your opinion of low carbing?
kimk1999 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in Food and Nutrition
Wow yeah very inspiring -
So, I feel embarrassed to ask this question as I feel that I should know - but what is the proper way for us to 'measure' our food. I always hear that we should eat 4 oz. To me, that was more in reference to a volume type amount and we should use a measure cup (well half cup) to measure our food. Then on the other hand, I hear a lot of people that talk about what food scales that they have / recommend. Well, 4 oz, could be a weight measurement as well. So my questions are: 1. For our diets - the 4oz rule is that a volume measurement? Trying to eat 4 oz of chicken or whatever? 2. When you see nutrition information on a package (say deli meat) of 4 oz is 100 calories - is that a weight measurement in that instance? Thanks.

So which way do you suggest to measure for deli meat? Would that be more of a weight measurement or a volume? The nutrition information is based off two ounces.

Just found out my husband is trying to cheat!
kimk1999 replied to takingaleap's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Honestly, to me, and keep in mind I'm only hearing the small snippets you've posted... I think he's checked out of the relationship. He's taking the easy way out and going to make you do the hard work of requesting the divorce. Since you have kids and more complicated setup, maybe find a divorce attorney that gives the free initial consults to see if this is the path that you want to do as well. I'm so sorry hun. Do your research to figure out what the rules are like in your state for a divorce. Again, this is just my opinion, not knowing you or your history. Just the small tidbits of the story you've posted. -

Yeah definitely slow down and make sure you have all the facts of the situation. There are plenty of stories of people that have done counseling and have made it work. I was married for about 6 years when he had the first affair and then I found the second one right at the 10 year mark. Marriage is a lot of work on both parts. After the last affair that broke up the marriage, going through the phone records there were others. I do not know how many more as I got tired of pointless searchings after the divorce. You need to make sure you did everything you know you should have done in this situation. If I would have divorced after the first affair (didn't accept the promises and apologies), I would probably forever wondered about the shoulda/coulda/woulda's in life. I know now that I am 100% glad that I got the divorce. I do wish a bit that I would have divorced sooner, but that's a different story. To me, marriage is meant to be for life, so I had to make sure that I tried everything that I could control to make it work. In the end, it does take 2 people. 1 person cannot do it all. Also we do not have kids so we did not have that aspect to push us to stay together. Good luck! <hugs> -
Such negativity for her thoughts... I probably would have initially thought the same that they are giving in and buying junk food for a kid but if that's the way to get a picky eater to eat yogurt then sure go for it. I think it's also better than buying a full bag of m&m's at the checkout stand. I judge people's carts. I judged when I was overweight. I judged when I was doing my crazy couponing days. I know I'm almost always judged in return. It just human nature to see where we rank amongst our neighbors. It's the whole keeping up with the jones' attitude. I'm not passing judgement here (lol) but let's have some tolerance amongst us.

Same with Kit. I wish you well on your continued way. You have helped me with your past experiences and knowledge. Take care of yourself.

Do you ever feel like your over eating, but you're not?
kimk1999 replied to takingaleap's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ah gotcha. Yeah you have a long road ahead of you. Nows the time to get out the scale and measuring cups to get used to portion sizes. Go ahead and measure everything if you think you're eating stuff in bigger quantities than you should but sounds like yours on the right track -

kimk1999 replied to takingaleap's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm confused - if you're pre-op and only consuming 677 calories and feeling like a pig how are you going to eat / feel post op? If you can be satisfied with just 677, I'm not sure if this surgery really is the right option for you. Many of us can't control portion sizes and eat too much. You might have something else going on (hormones) that you should explore first. Talk to your surgeon. Good luck! -
I would love to tell you to look up the chart and if you're craving chocolate, to eat almonds, but that doesn't work for me. I haven't found any tricks yet either. Like goalseeker said, when I try to eat around my craving and not satisfy the craving itself, I tend to end up eating more. If you want chocolate, I'd suggest some dark chocolate and eat it slowly to savor it. It's a tough time and absolutely sucks. I'm only 2 months post-op so i'm not that helpful yet.

I've read about a number of people that have had it on this forum after surgery. That was one of my questions for my surgeon too. 'Usually' a number of people will have issues with their gallbladder in conjunction with a very low fat diet (if I remember correctly). My sister had to have hers removed and she doesn't have any wls. This was after the HCG diet. My surgeon basically said there's no direct correlation between wls and gallbladder issues. There's almost no way to tell that if they didn't have wls would they still have GB issues? If that makes any sense. No direct cause and effect between wls and GB issue.

Food(s) you thought you loved...
kimk1999 replied to steph2012's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
New item for me... Last night/today I've been suffering from a bad headache/migraine. Been taking pills, coffee for caffeine, etc and nothing was helping. One of my old standbys was a coke. I used to drink them and they'd help. Even though I'm not supposed to have soda I'm desperate today. Could barely get through half of one - too sweet and doesn't taste good! -
Sorry to hear. Hope you feel better soon!!

At what point did you start counting your weight loss?
kimk1999 replied to JanaAZ's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I start with my highest ever. There's only 12 lbs difference between highest for me and surgery day. It was all a lot of work... Diet & exercising before surgery and diet & exercising after surgery. I weighed that and I've lost that so I want it counted. -
No need to feel embarrassed. Not sure of your planned exercise goals - stuff for free around the house or gym membership. Free - start off walking and walking a lot. Look into the couch to 5k to get your body slowly used to running. I'm not much of a runner and actually hate running still. Pinterest has tons of exercise plans/suggestions for home or the gym. Gym - I tend to enjoy lifting weights more than cardio. Crazy to me to think that way. Lol. I usually will use a lower weight with lots of repetitions to try to get leaner muscle tone. Either way just getting out and moving is the essential key at this point.
-
Like a number of others mentioned - check out the plan outlined in the couch to 5k. It's a structured program to get your body used to the jarring of running. It'll help to minimize injury from stressing things out too much.

Hi and welcome! For the most part this is an excellent family to join. There are a few sour grapes here and there but for the most part all positive support. Surgery on Monday? Good luck you'll do fine. Do you have gas-x, heating pad and ice packs? Do you have your allowable liquids? I had cream of chicken with milk; creamy tomato; broth; juice etc. Congrats and good luck on your new journey.

Cigna- Gained weight waiting for approval
kimk1999 replied to RedStorm's topic in Insurance & Financing
Congrats . I just saw this post. I had Cigna. I was more in a delicate balance. My BMI was about 36 during the 3 month pre-surgery. If I went below 35 they would not cover it. I had to make sure that I didn't actually lose any and it was somewhat / slightly / unofficially encouraged to gain during this time. Stupid insurance game. After I got approved, I got on it and lost some weight I had surgery back Dec 16. Congrats and good luck!! -
So then yeah, you should be able to get away with a sip or two of your significant other's beer if you want the taste
-
And I want it now! Lol I know there are other posts here about bandster hell but I needed to add my own complaint / needing support. I was banded on Dec 16. I've had my first fill about 4 weeks ago. I won't get my next fill for two more weeks. I want to eat everything. It doesn't help it's nearing that tom. I'm stressed at work so I want salty crunchy snacks and now I also want chocolate whatever. I called to see if they'd do a fill earlier and she said no... Per schedule for 1st and 2nd fill at 6 weeks and 12 weeks post op. I still feel like in strictly on a diet without 'much' help from the band. I'm feeling frustrated.

For some reason, I'm thinking/assuming you're a female. My phone won't let me check your profile. With that being said, and again it's empty calories, but I'll take a sip or two from my fiancé's beer when we're out. He usually gets it on draft and my nut told us that usually has lower carbonation. Also, I'll wait till he's drank a bit of it to try to let some more of the bubbles go away. I tried to order a cider one time and that was purely painful. My nut also recommended with sodas to open them and let them sit for a while till they are much flatter to just flat period. I think I've had a mojito and that was fine. Don't care for margaritas but I'm assuming that should be fine too. Keep in mind, mojito has a lot of sugar. You're putting in empty calories. It should not be a substitute for food calories and this will cause you to go over your daily calories. When I reduce my alcohol my weight drops faster, when I drink the weight reduction is slower.

Need a fake surgery, dont want the little league moms to know
kimk1999 replied to takingaleap's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Funny follow up to my 'surgery'. I only told my boss I was having 'surgery'. This happened to have been at the start of my holiday break so I got three weeks off. He never saw me on pain meds or I've pack on the belly or grimace when I stood up wrong. Fast forward to yesterday... I had my annual performance review. A year or two back I suffered from extreme anxiety and super stressful workload that ended up me limiting my hours to 40 a week. Well last year was much better and even better this time around. He was commenting on how I was doing better, taking more on, yada yada yada, and didn't know if x, y, z or my surgery was helping me. I really wonder what type of surgery he thought I had that would help with anxiety at work. Lol -
Which Chewable (or not) MultiVitamin?
kimk1999 replied to a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I take two Vitafusion gummy multivitamins. My nut approved them. If I take a vitamin with zinc (any amount, even just a measly 2.5 mg) I'll become pretty nauseated. That was a terrible trial and error to find something without feeling sick. Also, unfortunately I have to be careful at cold and flu season as a lot of those have zinc. -any ways, I also take vit d and vet e soft gels. -
Leepers - why did they not give you a fill? No worries about the rambling. I definitely appreciate the story. I needed it today.

Dr. Ache and Juliet both said that they made the year for all follow up apps but if I need to see them sooner that's fine and to call them. So much for that. Yeah I use mfp for everything, the good and the bad. Overall I'm doing pretty well, but I'm starving. Then when I satisfy the hunger, I go way over.
