    Narcoleptic

I don't really have anything to offer here... Are you more worried about wls exaggerating the narcolepsy or fixing it? Most if not all bariatrics surgeons require you to sit through a free seminar and you can ask the surgeon directly your questions/issues.

    Not feeling "full"

I'm in the same boat. I was banded Dec 16, 2013 and have had 1 fill at 4.8cc in a 10cc band. I still do not feel the full button or whatever. I do not get a hiccup, pain in the shoulder or any other indicator to stop. Just my brain telling me to eat less. I try to keep it between 4-8oz but not always successful. I'll get my second fill next week finally.

    soup please

How long do you have to stay on full liquids? I went through a bit of depression as well. I think a number of us have based on other conversations. Some people have just cried for days. I wish you the best. You'll get through this and we're here for you. Definitely talk to a doctor and maybe start some meds to help you out.

Depressed, discouraged. No Weight Loss, Hungry, Help!

Yeah as some of the others have posted - what exactly are you eating to make up your food intake (fully 100% honest about every little bite, nibble or sip). Measure/weigh your food to account for everything. Do you have myfitnesspal? A number of us log everything in there. My username is the same as here if you want to friend me. I still drink alcohol (and probably more than I should) so that adds empty calories and is slowing my progress. I was banded Dec 16th. My doctor gave my first fill 6 weeks post op and my second fill isn't till 6 weeks later. I'm pretty hungry too but trying my best to control portion sizes. I'm eating more frequently but small little meals. I was given 4.8cc in my 10cc band and I'm hungry most of the time too. I never feel full, get the pain in the shoulder, hiccup, nose sniffles, or any other signal but just reach a point I feel I should stop eating. I feel like I'm just on a regular eat less diet. Are you eating gluten and could you have a gluten intolerance? I've heard of many people who eat grains / gluten of any kind will just pack (keep) on the pounds, stay bloated and stay hungry. If I have bread, I notice that the scale will add a pound or two for a couple of days. Also, are you working out? Even though the scale might not be moving, maybe you're gaining more muscle. Are your clothes fitting better? Have you had blood work done recently? Could your thyroid or some other hormone be off this keeping the weight on you? I wish you the best. It's definitely a struggle when you want to be in the green and no longer be hungry. I get that. I'm just trying to have the patience needed till I get my second fill next week.

    soup please

I can completely understand and that stage is difficult. I'm a texture person. I eat food for the texture almost as much as taste (and there are certain food I avoid just because I can't stand the texture). This phase will pass soon enough.

    soup please

For me, I was not on clear liquids just liquids. I had a lot of cream of chicken soup, protein shakes, tomato soup, and various fruit juices.
  7. This night be one of those it depends on your doctor. Like others, I had to lose a few lbs and my pre-op diet helped me get there. It does shrink / make your liver more flexible. It helps you get in the right mindset for post op. What does your pre-op diet consist of? Were you told that you had to lose some weight before surgery? What will your post op diet be? You're only hurting yourself by sabotaging this. I did cheat here and there. It is though and I wasn't perfect but I knew I really wanted the surgery. Call your surgeon and see what he/she says. Just be careful because you're not setting yourself up for easy success post-op. Take care and let us know what happens.

    Converting to Sleeve

I've seen a number of people that have done this. You might want to also post on the sleeve forum (not sure if you did) as I think more of those people will be monitoring that site. Why are you converting to the sleeve?

    Converting to Sleeve

Huh? Are you on painkillers now or did the phone do some crazy autocorrect?
  10. This is a bit of a rant, but I have a joking tone My fiancé cooked me a wonderful filet mignon last night. He cut the pieces pretty small (smaller than he would but I still have to take bites of it before chewing). Anyways, I've had filet since surgery and all was well. I thought I was in the clear. Well my first fill was this past Friday and I think my band no longer likes steak! Last night it was more well done and it got stuck. He cut me really rare center parts for my lunch leftovers, I'm trying to eat with super tiny bites and chewing it like 30 times and I'm just not feeling well. So I'm stopping with my lunch not even half eaten. While sitting here at my desk I remembered the number of people that can and cannot eat steak. I was just thinking to myself that I should have specified when they asked what brand I preferred maybe I should have specified the steak friendly version.
  11. kimk1999

Should have specified steak friendly band

My fiancé is the main cook in the house and he lives to grill steaks. We've now tried different cuts. Certain ones are easier to chew to break down. I'm a texture person. I can't really do the food processing of my meats/meals. I need something to bite into and chew - but with steaks I can't chew too long as that becomes unappetizing as well. I tend to just cut them super small little bites and eat it one little bite at a time.
  12. I have depression and anxiety. Both have been better since surgery but I'm only 3 months lost op. They still show their ugly head from time to time but it's definitely fewer times. Extra confidence from losing weight helps the depression and exercising seems to take away some of the stress that causes anxiety. You're not alone - You have us and your doctors. Good luck!

    It is what it is

This is how I feel too. Had a nice date night with my guy tonight. Had wine and a dessert. The scales will probably reflect it tomorrow but I've learned from lifelong dieting that if I truly deprive myself of something for too long there will be a binge episode if not multiple ones. So sharing a dessert here and there and having wine with dinner isn't so bad. Sure the weight will take a bit longer but I want to enjoy life

    Dec 2013

I'd suggest to go and talk to your surgeon. Sounds like maybe a small fill might be in order. I'm still eating more than I should and can't wait till I can get my second fill.

    Dec 2013

I guess some questions to ask / answer ... how long are you satisfied between eating your specific volume of food? My doc and nut say that 4oz at a meal should last me about 4 hours (if I remember correctly). If you're still hungry more often, then yeah a fill might be in order to help you pass that plateau. Do you do the same exact exercises every week? Are you doing weights and increasing the weight / reps? Are you doing cardio - increasing intensity / incline / duration whatever? I've read that if you do the same thing your body may get used to it and may plateau. Also, if you are doing weights, could you be gaining muscle while losing fat thus keeping you at a perceived plateau? How are the clothes fitting? Have you been measuring your waist or other areas? Is that still shrinking? I've only had one fill. My surgeon goes slow on the fill schedule but aggressive with the amounts. She put in 4.8 cc's in my 10 cc band on my first fill. I'll finally get my second one in about 2 weeks.

    Pre Surgery jitters?

I think with that starting weight, 50lbs is realistic (and I forgot to count this month). Don't worry about that number. It's just a number and it'll be in the past soon enough. I've been on this forum for about 4ish months or so at this point, your number is nothing to be embarrassed about. There are many that are higher and many that are lower. Oh! I also lost about 6 lbs in my 2 week pre-op diet. Good job on getting to gym this morning! For me, morning workouts suck as I'm tired, but that's also the only way to reliably get there on a consistent schedule.

    Pre Surgery jitters?

Oh yeah and I suggest, if you haven't already, create a myfitnesspal account. There's a lot of us on there with other threads with usernames to find us and friend us. It's a program where you can track your food you eat and exercises you do to show calorie breakdown. It's free and one of the better program/apps out there.

    Pre Surgery jitters?

What's your starting weight? (On my phone so I can't see your profile if it's even filled out). Banding in April to lose 50 lbs by Oct? That's a pretty aggressive goal and you may become discouraged. You will have to have a laser focus and not cheat / stray. I think more realistic (again not knowing starting weight) might be to shoot for 30 or even 40 and if you hit 50 all the better I was banded Dec 16, 2013 and I'm now down about 24 lbs. The first two weeks I lost 8 lbs on the liquid post op diet, next 4 weeks I lost 6 more lbs. after that it's been about 1-2 lbs (sometimes a smidge more) a week loss. It's a bit frustrating at this point but it's steady. Well I did have a few plateaus. The band tends to go slower than the sleeve but I feel it'll stay off longer (hopefully).

    Pre Surgery jitters?

Been there, done that! You're not crazy and you're not alone. For me, I have bad anxiety. From a previous (non-wls) surgery I knew I'd be a wreck that morning, no caffeine, no food, no meds, etc. I was able to ask the hospital during my pre-op appt for approval to take my anti-anxiety med that morning. I was granted permission and I just had to remind them and the anesthesiologist prior to surgery. If you're that way just ask. Now leading up to that date - you've done your research and know this is the wls for you. You've done your research on your surgeon. You've done (or will be doing) your pre-op tests and blood work. The risks at that point are low. I was banded Dec of last year and I'm glad that I did it.

Congrats on arriving at Onederland. I'm worried too about trying to stay at my goal weight once I finally get there. I gained and lost 30/40/50 lbs many times and they always came back with their friends. I hope the wls is the permanent trick for me. Thanks for stopping by and telling us about your progress.
  21. For me, surgery starting weight was 202. I noticed after 15 lbs a slight difference. My fiancé kept commenting once I hit about 20. My family really commented when I hit 30 lbs (but hadn't seen them for a few weeks). Only 2 ladies at work have commented on the weight loss. Again like the other poster said - it's a slippery slope for coworkers to say anything personal now a days. If they comment on your weight loss it means they recognized that you were overweight.

    Exercise ,Please guide !

Are you allowed to walk? That's all I was allied for a while. After about two weeks they said I could swim. You're not eating that much and (for lack of a better word) 'traditional' exercises could be dangerous. You could pass out and hurt yourself. With everything on the inside still being swollen you could pull something or rip some stitches (just guessing). Give yourself plenty of time to heal as well as getting used to the lower calorie intake. I know I was dizzy for a while after starting this journey. Follow your doctors rules. 2 weeks will fly by quickly.
  23. Not sure who you were directing that to but here's my take... Yeah I know some people are freaked out about a foreign object being implanted but I'm more freaked out at the thought of having half my stomach removed. For me and my doctors, our discussions lead to the band being the right choice. There are a lot of documented problems with the sleeve too. I like that the band isn't permanent. If I'm having problems with vomiting or not getting what I need nutrition wise I can have the band adjusted. My ob/gyn doc is supportive of the band too. My surgeon, who performs both the sleeve and the band, was supportive for the band for me and my situation. Some other reasons why I chose the band was for the negative reinforcement that it gives when you eat too much and I like that it is adjustable. I can always switch to sleeve if I so desire in the future. My BMI was about 36 when I started so that was a contributing factor too. Maybe if I was bigger I would have considered the sleeve a bit more to lose more sooner?!? Not sure
  24. After a little over a year of unsuccessfully trying, lots of tests, etc. my gyn suggested that I needed to reduce my stress and weight. So yes this was one of my top reasons. Also the added health benefits and positive image helped too.
