    How do you drink?

I can't gulp, it's uncomfortable but I didn't really gulp before. Even when I have a large amount in my mouth I still swallow bits of it slowly.

    migraines and topamax

Not saying that it's good for you but I tried it. I was desperate for something. I hated the side effects. I felt so drugged out of my mind. I couldn't think, etc. come to find out... In the warning paperwork it states something to the effect that it's not meant with low carb diets. I take ketorolac (which is an NSAID). I try to minimize how often I take it but that's what works for me. Drinking more water has seemed to diminish the frequencies / intensity of my migraines. Hope you feel better.

    Dr. Oz

The lap band is approved for a BMI of 30 or above. Doesn't mean insurance will approve the surgery at that but that's the FDA limit. I didn't see it. I'm tired of dr. Oz. He contradicts himself too much that I don't want to listen in the first place. I might try to find it for curiosity's sake.

    lap band

That's incredible!! Great job I've been banded for 4.5 months and at a stall of 45 lbs lost. I'm happy with the progress but frustrated at the same time. You're an inspiration to keep pushing for my goal!!
  5. Maybe try milk of magnesia? For me the min recommended dosage didn't help. It seemed to finally work when I took the upper limit of the dosage.

How much weight should one lose in a week?

Been there and wondering the same thing before. 15 is definitely great weight loss for a month. I can understand how you feel frustrated as I remember feeling the same. You're doing great and keep it up.
  7. My surgeons office tries to sell their shakes and vitamins. The first bottle (shake powder and vitamins) were included in the program fee. My program fee was a one time mandatory fee and it included unlimited dietician discussions first year post op, support group meetings, etc. I didn't like the fee but I really liked the surgeon so I paid the fee.
  8. I know I don't hit my docs recommended minimum but I try. Since surgery my skin has been drier and even developed patches of bad flaky dry spots. Now when I get closer to drinking the amount the doc wants the dryness is significantly reduced. I was definitely severely dehydrated and almost had to go to the ER. So I try to drink more now.
  9. It depends... Cheese - I try to opt for 2% reduced fat as it doesn't taste much different and still send safe chemical wise. I can't do artificial sweeteners. I can't stand the taste and some give me migraines. So no sugar free stuff for me. I can't do mayo as I have an allergy to egg yolk. So no choice there. Usually most other things like dressings have msg in it so that's my deciding factor. Finding one without msg whether it's full fat or fat free I don't care. Yogurt - again most reduced fat has some sort of artificial sweetener. So that's my limitation there. I think the Chobani has a low fat Greek yogurt that's not with artificial sweeteners.
  10. I'm about 4 months out. I still drink carbonation every once in a while. Usually it's in the form of a sip or two of my fiancé's drink. Drinking too much of it leads to pain in my shoulder. Alcohol - usually have a glass at night. It's empty wasted calories so that has slowed my progress down but it's enjoyable experience and doesn't make me feel like I'm on a restricted diet. I hardly drink beer now. Between the higher calorie content and the carbonation it's just not worth it for me.

    meat feels stuck

As long as I cut it small, chew really well and eat slowly I'm ok. Sometimes I feel like I'm feeding a toddler with how small I cut my meat up. I'd venture to say it's close to sugar cube size when I go to take a bite of it. Oh and sauces definitely help. I now have to have BBQ sauce when I eat the grilled nuggets from Chickfila.

After three days I'm still ticked at my husband!

I am not blaming you at all, but you might have given him the allowance that you didn't want gifts, flowers, etc and you'll do the trip instead. As you know by being married for 30 years, guys and girls do not seem to speak the same language. If you're subtle about what you want, they'll miss the hints. If you're subtle about letting them not do something they won't miss that at all. You have to constantly nag to get what you want or at least I've had to do that. I was married for 10 years but have been divorced for 4. It's so frustrating when you think you're clear with expectations but they didn't get the message. Maybe check with him to see if he's ok. Maybe he's nervous about your surgery and doesn't know how to tell you. Are they downsizing and he was afraid to tell you (is he nervous about job security)? Maybe he had a really bad day/week at work but didn't want to complain due to the anniversary. Focus on your surgery. Plan your trip. I wish you the best!!

    bad food days :(

I've been on that vibe lately too. We did a road trip recently. I did well to pack some good snacks but they didn't last the trip. I gave into the vending machine calling my name a couple of times. Drank more than I should too. Today was a new day and I'm much better today.

    Bouncing Belly

Just 4 weeks banded, I'd suggest to confirm with your doc. I think you should be fine but you pain them valuable money for questions like that. My guess, and I'm not a doctor, is that you'll be fine. Maybe get a tighter swimsuit and/or compression Water shirt thingy.
  15. I had to do gas-x chewables. The dosage is 1-2. One tablet wouldn't work at all so I had to do 2 for it to work.

    Experience with phentermine?!?!?

Nothing is showing up for me. Just an image of an image.

    Workout before surgery

Are you talking about the morning of surgery or just in general prior to surgery? For insurance reasons (couldn't lose too much or they wouldn't pay) I didn't exercise leading up to it or definitely the morning of as my time was super early. But the healthier you are prior to surgery the better off you'll be.

    Hotel Breakfast

On vacation right now and just have to gripe. Last vacation, there was a nice free continental Breakfast. I could eat my small measly egg whites (special ordered as they usually only have yolks on the buffet) and bacon. Nice little Protein packed breakfast. This time, when I'm on vacation, the breakfast is $10 for all you can eat. I tried asking the server if there was some sort of a la carte option. I explained that I had weight loss surgery and couldn't eat that much. She asked me to clarify and I asked about some egg whites and bacon. At first she was like sure we can get you some egg whites and the bacon is at the buffet. So I asked would that still be the $10 price? She said yes. I said that defeats the purpose of small a la carte ideas. I know it's just $10 but then with the tip it's more like $12 for eating maybe $2-3 worth of food. So I left frustrated. Why do hotels do this as their only option? I do not understand the hotel game. Cheaper daily rates and then charge for parking and breakfast, but others have all that included and it's a similar rate / similar quality rooms. Sigh. Just frustrated and venting.

    Experience with phentermine?!?!?

Not sure if you're on a phone or computer, but on the computer, if you click on your name there's a my ticker option. Select that and go through those steps. I'm on my phone so I can't guide you step by step. Let me know how you so with the phentermine.

    Hotel Breakfast

I happened to bring some deli meat and cheese for snack for the trip so that was my breakfast. I like the yogurt idea!! The whole perception of value is definitely interesting. Free continental breakfast and not eating that much is a better value to me than paying $10 for a buffet that I barely eat... Even if the room is $10 more expensive.

    Experience with phentermine?!?!?

I'm taking phentametrazine (sp?) here and there. Phentamine makes my heart race like crazy and increases my blood pressure to uncomfortable levels. The other one is 3 times a day and less side affects (for me). I'm still somewhat in bandster hell and this helps with the extra appetite suppressants with my latest stall.
  22. My suggestion would be for the medical credit card. Sometimes they offer a grace period of no interest. Are you able to take a loan out - unsecured, against an asset (vehicle), against your house? If I didn't have insurance, the surgeon had a $16,000 non insurance rate.
  23. Glad to hear you made it to the ER and they helped you out.
  24. Way to go ccc4 you've got this. Congrats on getting to this point. It is just the beginning. Remember your motivation post banding too. You will probably be in a similar spot called bandster hell but it will get easier and it will get better!! Glad you stuck with the pre-op and didn't give up.

    Dating and Restaurants

You should be able to eat anything at a restaurant. If you're very recently post op - liquids / mushy phase then yeah wait - but otherwise you should be good to go. Maybe pick the restaurant ahead of time by reading the menus. My band isn't too tight and not too picky. Chili's - I get the margarita chicken with the black beans and rice. When it comes I immediately cut it in half and try to show a clear divide and not touch the other half. Steakhouse - can you eat steak? I get steak and veggies Carrabbas - grilled chicken with sautéed spinach Olive Garden - rosemary chicken and get double spinach instead of mashed potatoes You get the idea. Most restaurants will help you out. Just scope out the menu ahead of time (most have menus online). Maybe even eat at that place prior to the date. Cut small pieces before popping it into your mouth. Chew well and just have fun. Good luck!!
