    Good Bye Lap Band

Congratulations on the weight loss. You've done an excellent job and you are an encouragement to newbies like myself. I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery. Did your doctor propose replacing it or some other option or is s/he flat out removing it?

    Weight coming ioff extremely slow!

What does your food intake look like? Are you counting every calorie? Are you eating too much? Are you eating too little? While you say you've had 4 fills; do you know how much is in your band and what size band do you have? I haven't had a fill yet but I've read from others that some doctors only give little 0.5 cc fills at each visit while others get 1-2 or more cc's. So 4 fills might only equal someone else's 1 fill.

    Low BMI Banded Buddies :)

I had to stay above a 35 BMI for insurance to pay. I'm 5'4" and weighed 202 on surgery day. I lost 8 pounds in my two week post op but now i've lost maybe 2-3 lbs in the following two weeks. I get a bit discouraged with seeing the posts that people lose 20lbs in the two week post op so I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one struggling. It's slower than I would have hoped but it's still better than what I was able to accomplish pre-band.
  4. Glad to hear you finally went #2. I ended up having to take Milk of Magnesia a few times the first two weeks to get things moving for me. The pain meds are very constipating. Just a friendly (or not so friendly) reminder - unfortunately liquids in means liquids out. This period really sucked for me but looking back it was a little blimp in the radar.

    Newbie - One month post-op!

I am 1 month post op too. My date was the 16th as well but in Florida.

    First fill!

That sounds great. I'll get my first fill on the 27th so I'm not sure what she'll give me.

    Duromine

Ah I've been considering taking my pre-surgery prescription diet meds too. The physician that supervised mg diet said that was ok and I could go back to her even with the band. I haven't confirmed with my surgeon so I haven't taken it either. I can't wait till my first fill.
  8. My doc states no drinking 30 mins prior or 1 hour after. When I said that I've been having a hard time getting my water requirement with those rules (and no gulping either) they said I could start drinking 30 mins after. I was told this keeps the food above the band longer triggering the full response and it stays in the stomach longer so you're not as hungry so soon. I don't have a fill yet and can go about 3-4 hours with this philosophy before getting hungry. Also, small amounts even without a fill still make me feel full. Again that's my doctors orders that I follow and works for me.

    Duromine

Sorry I've never heard of it. So it looks like you posted this about two weeks ago. Did you decide to try it or wait for your doctor appt?

    Warm vs. cold foods

I'm a month post op and yeah the warm liquids went down better / felt better than cold stuff. It's still true for me now.

    Willpower and umm....chocolate

Oh goodness those little minis are my weakness... Spacing them out I could eat a ton and never feel sick. You can do it!!
  12. That's what I'm struggling with too. I like the display option of my steps but I don't care about the time. I like the lower profile of the flex though.

    My rant update (dh)

I was married for 10 years (technically got divorced 2 days after the 10 year anniversary). He cheated on me twice. For the longest time an why I stayed so long in the marriage was that I thought of myself as a failure. That's I couldn't keep him happy and I was a bad wife. I hated the fact of getting divorced and I didn't even have kids. I now wish I did it a few years sooner. I have now met a really amazing man who takes care of me, even with my crazy emotional baggage. It'll get better. You'll probably go through hell in the process and have a wide range of emotions but it will get better. Divorce is like a death in your life. It's the death of your marriage only there's no burial. Be prepared for grieving the loss, but you sound like a strong woman and can handle this next phase in your life. I wish you the best and as you can see, we're here for you and have been in a similar spot - either with special needs kids, divorced, or divorced with kids.
  14. Do you have a suggested preference between the force or the flex? I have a nice watch that I wear every day and plan to wear this on the opposite wrist. I've seen them at best buy but not sure how silly it'll be to wear a normal watch and then the fitbit.

    Burning Type Pain

I'm not experiencing pain with my bra yet but I haven't had a fill. Is your port up near the underwire or something? I can't imagine not having an underwire lol.
  16. Yeah I felt the same way. I even had my fiancé tap on my back to try to burp me. After five mins I said don't worry about it. Gas-x and heating pad on the shoulder is how I made it through. It was still quite uncomfortable. I think that feeling mostly lasted about 5 ish days. Then on and off for another week but not nearly as bad.
  17. After my 2 week liquid diet, 2 week mushie diet, I have finally progressed to solid foods. I was really hungry and wanted a bite of bread. Bread has gone down before, but I didn't chew it enough yesterday. It did not go down well. My body didn't even want to swallow Water. I forced some water down but it didn't move the bread. I did have to go to the bathroom at the restaurant and it was just, I guess it's called more of a PB than full on vomiting. The bread still didn't come up but I felt a bit better. I was able to eat my meal. Fast forward to today, my throat still feels swollen and I still feel sick. I only had a Protein shake this morning. I called my surgeons office and the nurse said to stay on warm liquids for 24 hours and to call them back if I don't feel better. I have not had a fill yet and was thinking it would go down since my surgery swelling went down. Sigh. Do you guys have any other suggestions? Have you still felt nauseated the next day? I feel more like there's something still in the back of my throat and that makes me feel like I need to throw up. It's difficult to drink coffee or anything else. It's going down, but my body doesn't want to swallow anything.

    Burning Type Pain

I'm 4 weeks post op too... Burning pain? No I don't have that but it occasionally feels like I'm being stabbed or something is pinched really hard. For the most part most of the pain is gone but occasionally I'll have a reminder that I moved wrong and it's not happy. I had lost 8 lbs in the two weeks post op and was super excited. Now the next two weeks to today I've only lost two lbs too. For a grand total of 10 pounds at the 1 month post op. I am a bit discouraged but like the other poster said we have to remember that we're not filled yet. At least my surgeon stated she doesn't start us with anything in our band. It is discouraging to see the number of people that lost 20 lbs in one month but we're each in our own little journey. Hope you feel better soon.

How much did you lose on post-op diets?

Oh I had also lost 6 lbs pre op. Right after surgery I did gain 6 lbs back due to whatever they pumped me with. My 8 lbs noted above are from morning of surgery itself and not the gain immediately post surgery, if that makes sense.

How much did you lose on post-op diets?

I lost 8 lbs in the 2 weeks post op during my liquid stage. Then it has slowed to another 2 lbs the next two weeks. I won't get my first full for two more weeks and I'm hungry!!
  21. It's my fault. I knew better. I was just hungry and didn't eat tiny bites and/or just wait for normal food. Longhorn bread is just soooo good. Thanks for your sympathies. This is no fun. I guess I'm glad that I learned at this stage and it was just a small date night with the fiancé and not a big group meal. Also, I'm glad that I did make it to the bathroom in time. I was so excited to get to solid food that I progressed too quickly. Mushies are easy to chew well. Real food takes more thought.
  22. I'm just so used to when I'm feeling sick / nauseated that I want saltines and either a coke or ginger ale to settle my stomach.
  23. Yeah definitely get your docs ok on progressing anything too soon. I had a lot of cream of whatever soups to keep me full, ton of broth which didn't last long, protein shakes and I was allowed thin runny grits. Every day seems to last forever when you're that hungry and can't eat, but it'll be behind you before you know it. Eggs weren't allowed till phase 2 for me. Above all call and follow your doctors advise. Maybe he'll give the green light to progress a bit faster, but you definitely don't want to get sick and rip your new sutures so soon. Not saying that will happen but I don't think it's worth the risk.

Post op cure - peppermint tea

Yeah thanks for sharing, I love peppermint tea too.
  25. I am 5'4" and weighed 208 starting my pre-op / 202 day of surgery. Trust me, I know the feeling of thinking just one more diet to try before going full on surgery. I had been diagnosed with one comorbid condition and therefore I qualified for insurance to pay. I was close to being diagnosed with sleep apnea too (insurance wanted home study they found a few issues and wanted an on site study). I needed something that would permanently give me negative feedback. I'm a month post op. Hardly anyone really knows I've had this so I didn't meet really any objections lol.
